Try downloading the 'Slim' installer from here (it's the 3rd one down): https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds Once it has downloaded check that CCleaner is not running in the background (close it in task manager if it is) and then double click ' ccsetup575_slim.exe' (it should be in your 'Downloads' folder) to install the latest version. Let us know how you get on with that. For info, just in case, what Windows version do you have and which Antivirus are you running?

I shouldn't have thought so. How often are you seeing them? Are they only when you open CCleaner, or at other times? If possible could you attach a screenshot of one. I've just turned my v5.75 'Automatic Updates' back on to see if it starts happening here. Just for completeness, which Windows version/build do you have, and which antivirus are you running?

Your screenshot shows that you have CCleaner set to clear 'Sessions' for both Firefox and Chrome, - so CCleaner will clear them and the information about what windows/tabs you had open will be gone. If you don't want your sessions to be cleared in future then untick 'Session' for both browsers. I'm not familiar with the Session Buddy Extension, but from a quick read it seems that it simply saves it's information to the same place that the browser saves it's session information/data; so it will also have been cleared. That is unless you have specifically told Session Buddy to backup or otherwise export your Session Buddy data: https://sessionbuddy.com/backup-restore/ https://sessionbuddy.com/import-export/ Note though that even if you had made a Session Buddy backup then unless you moved it out of the browsers download folder then because you also have 'Download History' ticked for both browsers that backup has probably been cleared as well.

Edge Chromium has replaced the old Edge as the main Microsoft browser, and so it does get installed during Windows Updates to replace the old version. On the start menu and desktop it doesn't say 'Chromium' is just says 'Microsoft Edge', but it does have a new icon. PS. Old Edge is still on your machine for now for compatibility reasons. But is hidden from view and not normally used. CCleaner can still see it and clean it if needed. (Just like CCleaner can still see/clean the even older Internet Explorer which is also still on your machine). Windows apps other than Edge itself will use the same 'Edge' storage locations for temporary files, it's just a convinient place for Windows apps to put temporary/junk files. (Why create their own junk folders when there is already a bult-in one there that they can use?). Skype does it for instance, and so do various other MS apps. You may also have some Edge tasks running in the background, in which case CCleaner will be asking if you want to close Edge to clean. If that's happening to you then see this for how to stop that:

You can already make those Library folders 'includes' in CCleaner for Mac, so that CCleaner will clean them for you rather than you having to do it manually. That can happen depending on if you are using Defraggler to 'Consolidate' files or to 'Defragment' files (or both). Consolidating files (to pack them tighter on the disc) will actually fragment some of the files, it has to to get the best packing. By default Defraggler does some of both, but you can make it do either/or depending on how you use Defraggler. Are you using Health Check or Custom Clean? Health Check does it's own thing and takes no notice of any custom settings like 'Cookies to Keep', you have to use Custom Clean for the custom settings to be used. When you say CCleaner "keeps logging me out of GMail" do you mean when you run CCleaner yourself, or is it doing it automatically when you close your browser? Which browser are you using? If it's cleaning automatically when you close the browser then you can change the option for that browser in Smart Cleaning, or turn Smart Cleaning off for all browsers, or even turn it off altogether. If you are already using Custom Clean then try unticking cookies altogether for your browser. If with that unticked CCleaner Custom Clean is still logging you out then that will show it's not clearing the cookies doing it, and it's time to look eleswhere. Possibly 'Saved Passwords' or 'Saved form information. If CCleaner will run in safe mode then that's a strong indication that an AV or other security tool is blocking it in normal mode. It can take some AV's a few days to catch up with a new CCleaner release and stop blocking it. It's also interesting that you say the "last version that ran rock solid is 5.64". We've seen this quite often and it's one of the signs that the AV is out of date. The last version of CCleaner that is able to run in those circumstances is CCleaner version 5.64, later CCleaner versions get blocked by the out of date AntiVirus. This is because of various (security) changes that were made to CCleaner at that time which the out of date AV's don't recognise. Looking on Nortons website although they are still updating malware definitions for Norton products running on Win 7, the software itself is not being updated for Win 7 users.

This is usually caused by your antivirus blocking the new CCleaner version. Sometimes it can take certain AV's a week or so to update definitions and recognise the new CCleaner version. What antivirus are you using and is it up to date?

I believe that we have seen this before. You will need to contact support and explain the problem you are having, they should be able to sort you out. You should email them at: support@ccleaner.com If possible send your request from the same email address that you used when registering CCleaner.

Yes, it happens. It happens randomly, and random bugs can be hard to track down. It's not a functional issue though, just a display issue which can be safely ignored. This particular 'double listing' one seems to be related to Windows itself, so changes to CCleaner may not be able to eliminate it. Some see it more often than others, which would tend to indicate that it is a particular Windows setting on their machine, or maybe even a different CPU chip or other hardware difference.

Unfortunately dumbing down does seem to be an industry wide (world wide?) process. Blame it on the upsurge in users of Faceache, What's-upp, Twaddler, and other such social media apps, who never use their computer/tablet/phone for anything else and have no idea how their device actually works. (Authur C Clarke: "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic"). I was recently fixing a laptop for a friend (large areas of dead pixels, new screen needed), looking at her browser she had never visited any other site than Facebook, Amazon, and e-bay. CCleaner's Health Check is a case in point; it's meant for users who have no computer knowledge so would struggle with what is now Custom Clean. You can't realy blame the software companies - they are chasing what is a major, and still growing, market of dumb users.

Just to note that the fix hasn't removed the old .dmp files from '...\Program Files\CCleaner\'. You can delete them yourself in File Explorer if you don't want them hanging around.

@Doupax It is CCleaner that is doing this currently, to be more exact it's the Smart Cleaning. For some reason CCleaner Smart Cleaning is completely closing for some users after it runs a clean. ie. when you close a browser, Smart Cleaner runs a clean of the browser files and then completely closes, so Windows then removes it's icon from the system tray because it is no longer running in the background. Until the developers find and fix the issue simply opening and closing CCleaner without doing anything else will relaunch Smart Cleaning in the background, and Windows will put the icon back in the system tray. Or you could just turn Smart Cleaning off and remember to run CCleaner manually after closing a browser. PS. As said in posts above 'Minimise to system tray' in the options is a different thing altogether and applies when you minimise (not close) the main GUI, whether Smart Cleaning is enabled or not. I believe that it's an old option left-over for those still using XP where, if I remember correctly, you couldn't 'pin' apps to the taskbar. You don't need it with later Windows versions where you can simply 'pin' CCleaner to the taskbar.

That's fine. What do you think that CCleaner is removing that you don't want removed? It may not be a cookie as such. If it's things like webpage logins then they may be being cleared by 'Saved Passwords' or 'Saved Form Information'. If it's what tabs you had open in Firefox then that's 'Session'. If it's what page a particular site opens at then that's 'Site Preferences'. If it's something else then it may be in Firefoxe's cache rather than a cookie.

As said above - It is the warning messages themselves that are being shown in error. The settings are being changed, but for some reason something is triggering the error message and it's being shown when it shouldn't be.

I think we need a few more details. But the first thing I'll ask is if you are using CCleaner's Health Check or Custom Clean? They work differently.

I found with the one above it also made a difference if you used the characters for the reverse translation. I guess that's two or three translations at once, from Chinese characters (traditional or simplified) to Chinese script and then to English.

For the record I've just ordered another mains operated soldering iron, I wimped out on the portable but may try a battery one in future. I wasn't going anywhere near the skull of the iron burger, not even for under a fiver.

What we have found in practice is that if you tick or untick the 'save to .ini' box you get the error message and the tickbox doesn't change, but if you then close and reopen CCleaner you'll see that the setting and tickbox has actually been changed. And if you look at the .ini file itself in File Explorer the date/time modified has been changed. Just for clarity what Windows version are you running now? I notice that when posting last year you were still using XP. But I'm not sure just what you are meaning when you say "running under a restricted account." Obviously an account with restricted permissions, but just what are those restrictions? To save a .ini file the user must have permission to write to the folder where CCleaner is installed.

I note that you say CC Cleaner is that correct or a typo? The official CCleaner only has 2 'Cs' - but there is a known fake product that has 3. The support team for the genuine product know all about the Black Friday cashback offers.

If you use Malwarebytes (or even if you don't) then be aware that there are reports of a rash of scam email invoices at the moment. https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/267733-fake-receipt/ It's just a tech support phishing scam, flag it as spam in your email app, then delete it. If you should get one - Don't respond to it and definitely don't call the phone number. Clues: "Items :- Malware bytes secure system" (There is no Malwarebytes product of that name). "Price :- $449.99" (Nowhere near that price - Mawarebytes Premium is $US 39.96, or £30 in the UK, for a 1 year, one machine, Home licence).

Yes, they didn't get round to fixing it this time. However further testing has shown that the 'save to .ini' setting is in fact being changed and saved when you tick or untick it. It is the message itself being shown that is the error. ie. There is no error, so the message should not be being shown.
