  1. Can you explain better, perhaps with a screenshot, of just what you are meaning when you say 'the information area'? (That is not a standard Windows term). Do you mean the System Tray? or do you mean something else?
  2. That's a Windows setting. (which is why it goes back to normal again following a restart). See this for how to make any particular app open as maximised, even following a restart: https://www.computerhope.com/tips/tip201.htm I think that by; you mean from the Taskbar, so see the section for "Taskbar shortcut icon:"
  3. v5.64 is the last version of CCleaner that will run on XP and Vista. Which suggest that you may be trying to run CCleaner in compatibility mode for Vista or below. (We've seen a couple of cases of this happening, not sure why it gets changed for some people but it seems to be Windows doing it) Browse to the CCleaner folder and check this for both 'CCleaner64.exe' and 'CCleaner.exe'. Right click on the .exe and in the context menu select 'Properties' and then the 'Compatibility' tab. If it looks something like this then untick that 'Compatibility mode' box and then Apply.
  4. That is normal, it hppens with any and every computer. For an explanation of why it happens see the link in my signature below every post I make. If you can't see my signature (maybe you're on a mobile phone) then: https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/52668-tracking-files/?tab=comments#comment-300043
  5. I assume that's a typo and the Norton version is 22.20.5.39 https://www.nortonsecurityonline.com/faq/art/what-is-the-latest-version-of-norton-security/ Did you try disabling Norton, and then installing CCleaner again with Norton disabled and seeing it it will run with Norton still disabled? https://www.nortonsecurityonline.com/faq/art/how-to-temporarily-disable-norton-security/ Did you try 'Whitelisting' CCleaner in Norton to allow internet access? https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v6958602 If you could give a screenshot of the CCleaner directory on the problem machine we can check if all the files have installed and that the dates and filesizes look right.
  6. No doubt you are also using Health Check, as said above: Health Check uses it's own cleaning rules and takes no notice of Custom Clean's ticks or unticks, or includes/excludes, or 'Cookies to keep'. Health Check is not customisable, if you want/need to customise what is cleaned or not then that is what Custom Clean is for. PS. Storing wanted stuff in the recycle bin seems a strange thing to do, would you store wanted files in your waste bin at home?
  7. Defraggler does a mixture of both consolidate and defrag by default. But you can use it to do either one or the other, see this: https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/58715-deffragler-dosnt-complite-the-defragmatation/?tab=comments#comment-321773
  8. For licensing matters you will need to email support: support@ccleaner.com
  9. What you need in this circumstance is a 'files only defrag' rather than a consoildate. TBH most experienced users use a file only defrag, disc consolidation takes longer and once drives got to 500 Gb and above consolidation just takes too long. (And usually isn't needed anyway as you are less likely to be running out of disc space on a larger drive). I've never had a file defrag take longer than about 30 mins, that's usually after a Windows update/Patch Tuesday, most are much shorter if you do it weekly. To do a files only defrag in Defraggler: Analyze as usual. Once you have the results click on 'View Files'. (or select the 'Files list' tab). Now click on the box at the top of the list to tick all the fragmented files found, then click 'Defrag Checked' That will defragment the fragmented files without attempting to consolidate the disk. PS. If you get an error saying 'Defrag Aborted' don't worry about it, it happens occasionally sometimes more that others. It has defragged what it can, but has left alone anything system protected, or anything that has altered or been reopened, since the analyze. (Usually defender, sysWOW64, SXS, or $Extend files, sometimes your AVs files). You can see that here, the $Extend file(s) has not been defragmented and still has 23 fragments, but the rest are now in one piece.
  10. For advanced users: Just to note that the optional KB4577586 in the Microsoft catalog has 2 pages, with the updates for win 10 versions above 1903 on the second page.
  11. When CCleaner installs but then won't run it's usually because it's being blocked by your antivirus. I'd try the following in this order to see if you can find what the problem is and fix it: Uninstall CCleaner and download/install it again from here: https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds (Use the 'Slim' installer, 3rd one down. It doesn't contain the bundled offers). See if it will run/register now. Check that CCleaner has installed correctly. In File Explorer look in C:\Program Files\CCleaner to make sure that CCleaner has actually been installed. Try double clicking on CCleaner64.exe to see if it will run from there. Make sure that the AV is up to date. It's best to check the AV's website, some will sometimes say they are up to date but there is a later version available on the website. Then try running CCleaner again. Try disabling (or even uninstalling) the AV to see if CCleaner will then run. If it does then it indicates that it is the AV blocking CCleaner and you will need to make CCleaner an exception in the AV. Boot the computer into Safe Mode and see if CCleaner will run in Safe Mode. If it does that indicates that something is blocking it in 'normal' mode. (Usually the AV, but possibly some other security software). For our further info: What version of Windows is the computer running? What antivirus is in use on it? (and at what version). For your further info: Here are the support articles for problems when installing or registering CCleaner (although they don't quite cover your situation): Problems installing CCleaner Porblems registering CCleaner PS. Although not relevant to this install problem, you may have been better buying a 'Professional Plus' bundle which licences up to 3 computers rather than buying 2 individual licences (maybe not as it looks like the second one may have been the Boxing Day offer?): https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/articles/360028350711-How-many-computers-can-I-install-CCleaner-Professional-Plus-on-#how-many-computers-can-i-install-ccleaner-professional-plus-on--0-0
  12. Thanks @MartyRossand @VejbymatsI'll pass those on to the staff.
  13. Thank's, unfortunately no clue there then. Would you mind screenshotting the Up-to-date Programs screen from software updater? If the dev's can find a common link in which apps those who are being affected by this have installed that may point to the offending app. You may also want to check the listed apps manually to see if there is an update available for them which CCleaner isn't picking up. (Maybe because CCleaner can't reach their server). For instance Health Check is working fine for me, so either the apps I have don't include the problem one, or they are already up to date: As said above this glitch is not affecting anything other than the Health Check 'Security' tab (which is in fact the Software Updater tool) so it's fine to use otherwise and just ignore it until the cause can be found and fixed.
  14. It is a known about glitch and is being investigated. It does not stop the rest of the Health Check from working. The error is though to be caused by incorrect information coming from one of the applications that CCleaner has found has an update available. If you could click on Tools>Software Updater, wait a second or two, and tell us what (if anything) it finds in "Programs to update" that may help the developers to track down just which application is causing it. Screenshots of both the "Programs to update" and "Up-to-date Programs" screens of Software Updater might be handy.
  15. My disability means that I've never been able to hold a driving licence. I wouldn't risk it anyway, too dangerous for other road users. (But yes of course I have driven, even large trucks when I worked as a designer for an hydraulic tipper manufacturer - off public roads is no problem to others). The original Jaguar MkII (not the 240) was my favourite, and in 1986 I managed to persuade a workmate to lend me his newly restored powder blue one for my sisters wedding. He decked it out with wihte ribbons, dressed up as a chaufeur, and drove it himself. She loved it, much better than the white Rolls Royce that everyone else used for their weddings. Nice talking / remeniscing jagman.(Good craic we call it round here).
  16. I think that the 'handicap friendly' or as we call it 'Accessible' is simply because a lot of Europe is much older that the USA. I myself have a disability, but currently live in a property that was built in 1604 and then remodelled in about 178#-180#? (I've not been able to track that exact date down yet). Well before disability or even old age was considered in building standards, and of course with it being so old you are limited as to changes you can make to it now as it's a private dwelling rather than a 'government' building. Many small shops/businessess face the same restrictions on preserving the heritage look of the original, and even some interior features. Just getting planning permission for the entrance step to be lowered (ie. for wheelchair access to a shop) can be a problem with older buildings. I'm still managing it where I live, but I'm keeping my eyes open for something more accessible in my advancing years. (PS. I'm not in a wheelchair myself but am very active on a UK disability forum).
  17. Glad that you found a solution, thanks for sharing it. I've given the benefit of the doubt here and simply removed your posted link. You could have reported your findings without giving that link, and the information in your post stands just as well without it. Although many of do use use similar utilities the fact that you gave the link after only 5 posts, (all 5 in the same thread), looks suspiciously like a common spamming tactic. I realise that you may just have been wanting to help others but as moderators we have to act when something fits a spamming profile - but not over-react, hence the benefit of the doubt.
  18. There are exactly the same cookies, Health Check just makes them sound more scary. Have a read of the link in my signature below any of my posts for more info. Or if you can't see my signature: https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/52668-tracking-files/?tab=comments#comment-300043
  19. Health Check is meant to always use and only use it's own cleaning rules. It doesn't respect any of the Custom Clean ticks/unticks; and I'm pretty sure that it doesn't respect any changes you make to 'Cookies to keep' either. (I know from my own testing that it doesn't respect Custom Clean 'Includes' or 'Excludes'). If you want to be sure that your 'cookies to keep' are respected then I would always use Custom Clean and not Health Check. You can also add further 'cookies to keep' that are not covered by 'inteligent cookie scan'. See this for more information about keeping all or particular cookies: https://www.ccleaner.com/docs/ccleaner/ccleaner-settings/choosing-which-cookies-to-keep You can make Custom Clean the default that CCleaner opens to with Options>Settings>CCleaner home screen.
  20. These are both the same error, it is known about and is being investigated. The "Unable to connect to server" error is showing in Health Check. It does not stop the rest of the Health Check from working. The "Error converting the XML structures" is the same error but produced by the Software Updater (rather than by Health Check). Again it only affects Software Updater and nothing else. The error is though to be caused by incorrect information coming from one of the applications that CCeaner has found to be updated. It would help to investigate just which application is causing this error if you could provide screenshots of both the "Programs to update" and "Up-to-date Programs" screens of Software updater.

  22. Sam Smith's Sovereign Bitter is my usual tipple when the pub is open, https://www.samuelsmithsbrewery.co.uk/shop/draught/ale-draught/sovereign-bitter/ The cellar, and under bar, chillers mean that it's usually served at between 7 and 11 degrees Celsius (42-52 F) - depending on the weather. (I know Americans like their beers colder, possibly that's so that they don't have to actually taste them). At the moment we are covid lockdown though and pubs are closed, so bottled ales (Moorhouses or Jennings usually) and cans of lager (usually Carling) at home. PS. Most of the stories you hear from Americans about English beer being 'too warm' originate from servicemen stationed over here during WW2, most of who didn't arrive here until 4 or 5 years after the war had started, rationing was in force and there wasn't electricity spare to chill beer, so hardly the best time to judge a country's usual food or beer quality.
  23. It's been a bit of a problem since Health Check first came out. We have to explain on here at least once or twice a week that the ticking/unticking in Custom Clean only applies to Custom Clean itself and not to Health Check. It could be explained better in CCleaner itself. As it stands it's not very intuitive and can be confusing, especially to new users. (We've even suggested that Health Check should be made a seperate product, but apparently there are technical reasons why that didn't happen).
  24. Yes, that's right. As Dave says above - If you want Health Check not to clear your browser history then each and every time that you use Health Check you have to: Do the Health Check analysis. Click on 'Privacy'. Untick 'History'. Click on 'Back to overview'. Click on #'Make it better'. It's a long way round to exclude something from Health Check because Health Check was never really intended to let you customise things in that way; that's what Custom Clean has always been for. Health Check is for non-technical users to simply clean everything that an 'average' user would want to clean, and then do a couple of other checks as well. If you consistently want CCleaner to leave your browser history alone then using Custom Clean is the way to do it. PS. You can set Custom Clean to be the default screen, so that CCleaner opens to Custom Clean every time: Options>Settings>CCleaner home screen.
  25. Ok, the next thing is to check that you haven't somehow got Win 7 set to run CCleaner in compitibility mode with Vista or XP. If you've managed to get a CCleaner installed but not running then: Browse to the CCleaner folder and right click on 'CCleaner64.exe', in the context menu select 'Properties' and then the 'Compatibility' tab. (This is from Win 10 but it's similar in Win 7). The last CCleaner version that will run sucessfully in Vista/XP is version 5.64, anything later may install but won't run. If you haven't managed to get a CCleaner to install so can't check the above, or if you want to try it anyway, you can get CCleaner v5.64 installer from this link: https://download.ccleaner.com/sunset/ccsetup564_xp-vista.exe
