  1. @jezhi There have been a couple of reports of this in the past day or two. It looks as if there may be a problem with that particular server; server outages happen now and again for various reasons. It just means that Health Check cannot currently check if some of the other apps installed on your computer have an update available. It's been reported and hopefully it will be fixed soon. It's nothing to worry about and will not otherwise interfere with the working of CCleaner. It isn't affecting everyone so may depend on where in the world you are?
  2. There have been a couple of reports of this in the past day or two. It looks as if there may be a problem with that particular server; server outages do happen now and again for various reasons. It isn't affecting everybody, and you may find that if you try again at a different time it will connect. It just means that Health Check cannot currently check if some of the other apps installed on your computer have an update available. It's been reported upwards and hopefully it will be fixed soon if it is a server problem. It's nothing to worry about and will not otherwise interfere with the working of CCleaner which will still clear up the junk.
  3. Hi @SPD, We have seen this persistence a couple of times before, it seems to be due to the order in which the updates/settings were done, (or possibly some Windows Task setting on those particular machines?) Anyway, following the 5 steps given in this linked post cured it for those others: https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/59567-cleaner-5748198-runs-smart-cleaning-even-though-i-unchecked-smart-cleaning/?tab=comments#comment-325149 If you need more help with Task Manager or Task Scheduler then give a shout.
  4. Firstly, are you using Health Check or Custom Clean? Perhaps more to the point - Did you run Health Check 2 or 3 days ago? Health Check will always clear your browser history, regardless of what you have ticked or unticked in Custom Clean. Health Check is meant to do that. Custom Clean allows you to tick/untick things for more control over what gets cleaned. If the browser history is unticked then Custom Clean will leave it alone. Health Check uses it's own cleaning rules, it takes no notice of what you have ticked or unticked for Custom Clean. Secondly, CCleaner will clear all of your Firefox history, it wouldn't leave the last 2 days behind. So having noted the above: I suspect that you have cleared your Firefox history 2 or 3 days ago. (Maybe you ran Health Check by mistake, or just to give it a try?) What you are now seeing in Firefox is your 2-days browsing history since you did that clean. PS. If you have run CCleaner's Custom Clean in the past 2 days then it has obviously not removed the Firefox history, as it shouldn't do if it's unticked.
  5. What happens if you use Tools>Software Updater? Does that also say that is unable to reach the server?
  6. What you are seeing is not "Launch the CCleaner app window each time the computer starts" setting. That launches CCleaner to do a clean and then closes. What you are seeing is an Icon in the System Tray area of the taskbar (in your case in the hidden part accessed by the up-arrow) which is put there by Windows when CCleaner is running a background task. There are two CCleaner background tasks that can cause Windows to show that icon: Smart Cleaning. "Keep CCleaner updated automatically" setting. As you say this is only happening for you since a recent update then it is most likely the new "Keep CCleaner updates automatically" setting, which was introduced in CCleaner version 5.47 for both Free and Pro users. If you don't want the automatic updating then go to Options>Updates and untick it. Windows should then remove the CCleaner icon from your System Tray (hidden area). If the icon is still there after unticking the automatic updates then that will be because you also have Smart Cleaning enabled. Again you can untick 'Enable Smart Cleaning' to turn that off. If you have either one (or both) of those two options selected then Windows will put the icon in your System Tray.

  8. If you are meaning that the quick access folder is showing your recently used files, and you don't want see that that but don't want to delete them either, then you can change that behavour in File Explorer. Open file explorer and (in the list on the right of the window) right click on the quick access folder. From the context menu that comes up click on 'Options'. In the window that comes up select the 'General' tab. You can set there whether Quick Access shows recently used files/folders or not. If instead you want CCleaner to clear the Recently Used list altogether then you will have to use Custom Clean and not Health Check. (Health Check does not clear that list as many/most users do want to keep that list). Custom Clean has a setting to remove 'Recent Documents' from Windows Explorer. (It just clears the recently used list, it doesn't do anything to the documents themselves).
  9. It's been noticed before. Speccy gets the information from Windows and it seems to be the resolution currently in use that is reported to Speccy by Windows rather than the monitor resolution. If you look at your monitor widths and heights they are also different to the reported current and work resolutions, except in the case of monitor 4. That is where the scaling comes in. (Don't forget to add 40 pixels, for the taskbar if its showing, to the Work resolution to give the Current resolution). If you launch something on that monitor that uses a different (higher?) resolution, eg, a graphics programme or a Hi-res Game, then that should report the different (higher) resolution. I'm by no means that familiar with Speccy but that's the best I've been able to work it out with my limited knowledge.
  10. Must be bl**dy annoying. (I'm not seeing it here). At the risk of upsetting CCleaners marketing department - As it's showing in the Windows notification area have you tried changing your Windows notification settings? Windows Settings>System>Notifications & Actions> Get notifications from apps and other senders.
  11. Good point there @GregBickel We often tend to concentrate on what the AV/firewall on the computer is doing, sometimes overlooking the fact that there may be (probably is) a seperate second layer of protection/filtering on the router. @Stephen CCleanerBack in March you offered to provide such a domain/URL whitelist for those having issues with firewall blocks in Health Check, has it been published anywhere yet? https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/57004-health-check-unable-to-reach-server-message-fixed-in-version-565/?tab=comments#comment-315734 (I can find a domain whitelist for CCleaner Cloud, but not one for Health Check).
  12. I see what you are doing with the RAM drive there for the junk, not a bad idea. I went a different route and wrote a batch file that clears the junk. Because it's written specifically only for what I use regularly on my machine it doesn't have to cover apps that I don't use, so it clears the junk in under a second. Any junk from apps that I only use occasionally CCleaner takes care of. I'm not too sure about the SSD read/write life, modern SSDs have a vastly improved read/write life over the earlier ones. Still it can't hurt to keep read/write ops down.
  13. I never used Win7 much, went from XP to 8.1 (briefly) and then to 10 as soon as it came out. I do remember similar software issues with XP when that went EOL, but couldn't justify the cost to update - until the laptops graphics chip went South and it was time to get a new machine. I didn't particularly like 8.1 but do actually like Windows 10 and have it set up so that it doesn't look all that much different from XP or 7, it's not that difficult to do that. In fact I've had people who've seen me on my laptop ask why I haven't updated to Win 10 yet, until I point them to the logo for the start menu. I don't like Chrome or Chromium based browsers either, I settled on Firefox. Interesting to see that you are (another) RAM drive user, I thought RAM drives went out in the 90's when HDDs became more affordable but have seen a few forum posters using them again recently. I'll have to look into if using one could be any advantage to me again, I don't think so the way I use my computer but I may be missing a trick.
  14. Thanks Hazelnut, I'd missed that one.
  15. @Mstar84 If you are using Windows 10 2004, (have you recently updated Windows?) with Chrome as your browser then it may be a bug in Chrome itself that is losing your passwords. See this: https://techdows.com/2020/06/chrome-issues-on-windows-10-may-2020-update.html
  16. Good to hear that the Slim worked for you. The Slim installer doesn't include any offer pages so it's likely the newer graphics engine now used by those particular pages that Win 7 can't cope with, which is why the Standard installer bombed before displaying that page. I'm pretty sure that we have seen that before with some other Win 7 users. I would bookmark the 'builds' page and keep using the Slim installer in future for updating on Win 7. (Although I expect at some stage there will be a 'last version' that will be compatible with Win 7, just as Vista/XP users can't use a CCleaner higher than 5.64). If you are meaning the mswinsck.ocx and HHCTRL.OCX they are both known to occasionally go missing without any help from CCleaner. (Although it may have been the incompatability between Win7 and the Standard installer here). Here's a couple of old Win 7 threads about it from the Windows forum. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_programs/component-mswinsckocx-or-one-of-its-dependencies/0f56c922-ceac-4004-a249-d3f624074ab3 https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_install/hhctrlocx-file-update/6e6ff78b-7f4f-482d-9feb-c9a795a9bf49 You do have to realise that Win 7 is EOL, and that compatiblity problems with new and updated software will become a bigger and bigger problem for it as time goes by. You can't expect software developers to keep ensuring compatibility with EOL operating systems.
  17. The "Error STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION" is a known bug in Chrome and Edge Chromium. And as the CCleaner browser is also Chromium based then the bug may well be affecting it as well. The last I heard Google don't have a fix for it yet, updating your browser may fix it. (But may not). See this article: https://techdows.com/2020/07/chrome-crashes-with-status_access_violation-error.html There's a workround you can try if updating your browser doesn't fix it, see this article: https://www.chromestory.com/2020/05/status_access_violation/#status_access_violation_8211_Workaround If you are using Windows 10 2004 then there is another current bug in Chrome that you should also be aware of. (I don't know if this one is also affecting Edge and other Chromium browsers): https://techdows.com/2020/06/chrome-issues-on-windows-10-may-2020-update.html
  18. The problem that was solved in v5.56 WAS solved, it was simply an incorrect error message that was being shown to everybody, it was not a connection problem. Yours appears to be an actual connection problem to the 'Security' server. (I can connect to it fine from here). From your screenshot it can be seen that you are able to reach the server for the 'Speed' database, but for some reason are not reaching the (different) server for 'Security'. As suggested above try using Tools>Software Updater (which is the same server as Health Checks 'Security') and seeing if that can connect OK for you. Please report back what you see with Software Updater.
  19. 'Saved Passwords' if ticked will remove all saved passwords from the browser. If that happens then you will have to tell the browser to save each one again the next time you log into that site. For info, which browser are we talking about here? If only some passwords are being affected then try unticking 'Saved Form Information' for the browser, some websites save logins and passwords as forms rather than in the browsers saved password list. Also note that as a security measure some websites will not allow your browser to 'auto-fill' passwords and insist that you type them in each time. So that if someone else gets their hands on your device (say your phone/tablet gets stolen) they can't automatically log in as you. Banking and other financial websites usually do that, as do many other sites nowadays especially sites where you may be using debit/credit cards.
  20. You can change that setting in Smart Cleaning so that it doesn't give you the notification, or so that it doesn't automatically clean the browser at all. You can have a different setting for each browser that you use. eg. With the settings below: Microsoft Edge will not be cleaned on closing and you would get no notification. Internet Explorer you'd get a notification that you had closed it, and ask if you want to clean it. Edge Chromium would be automatically cleaned on closing, and you would get a notification to say so. Firefox would be automatically cleaned on closing but you wouldn't get a notification.
  21. Yes the dump error has been fixed, you may want to check the CCleaner folder though and delete any old '.dmp' files that may be left over from v5.74. I'm not sure about those install problems, maybe it's because of Win 7 now being EOL? Although probably not related to the install problems that you had you might want to check that the Win 7 is not set to compatability mode for XP or Vista. They were looking at creating a webpage where 'selected' old versions of CCleaner will be available for download. It would/will have things like 'Last version to support XP/Vista', 'Last version to support SSE computers', and so on. There will probably also be the previous version or two to the current one, in case somebody needs a quick rollback In the meantime if you are looking for a particular old version of CCleaner ask on this forum and someone will probably be able to help. PS. There was a lot of whitespace at the bottom of your post for some reason, I've taken it out.
  22. Thanks for the offer, but I'm not sure what files would be of help? Even if CCleaner is run in debug mode to create a logfile that log wouldn't show just why it had closed when it shouldn't have following a Smart Clean. (The programme 'thinks' that it should be closing and so 'thinks' it is doing nothing wrong). The CCleaner staff and developers are aware of the problem and we'll just have to wait until the developers can track down what is causing it. We do know that, rather than developing new features, the devs are currently focused on finding/fixing small annoyances like this one, and those issues that may only be affecting a minority of users. That is; little bugs that don't stop CCleaner from working, but do mean that for some users it's not working quite as it should do. v5.75 was mainly a 'bugfix' update and we are told that the next update will also be mainly a 'bugfix', so hopefully this Smart Cleaning bug may be found and fixed by then.
  23. One thing I'm not sure of there is your mention of "Unpacking'' - did it actually say that word? There is no need to 'unpack' the Slim installer; it just runs and installs CCleaner. Did you download the Slim installer, "ccsetup575_slim.exe", or did you accidently download CCleaner Portable version "ccsetup575.zip". The Portable is a compressed (zip) file and so would 'unpack', (if Win 10 is set to automaitcally do that rather than displaying the contents in File Explorer), but because it's a Portable version it will not install anything (it isn't meant to, it's a special stand alone version of CCleaner for advanced users/computer technicians) and so it wouldn't change the CCleaner that is already installed.
  24. Health Check's Privacy and Space functions are 'stand alone', however the Speed and Security functions do need to connect over the web to check databases. Obviously the Check for Updates also needs to make a connection. The fact that both Health Check and Check for Updates are hanging for you is probably related to those connection being blocked. If that is the problem the the Slim installer should download/run without any problem. I'd try using Tools>Software Updater and/or Tools>Startup (those are the equivalents of HC's Speed and Security) to see if they also freeze/hang. If they do then it's probably a sign that Kaspersky (or some other security measure you have) is blocking the connections. In which case make sure that Kaspersky is up to date, or make CCleaner an exception in Kaspersky. PS. I'd check the website for the latest Kaspersky version, sometimes an AV will say it's up to date but there will actually be a later version on the website. (There was an issue with Trend Micro doing that earlier this year, TM 2019 would say it was up to date but block CCleaner, when users went to the website and updated to TM 2020 for free the problem went away).
  25. @Dave CCleaner That link you have given above is a live link and automatically starts a download.
