Guidelines

Welcome to the CCleaner Community Forums!

We’re  glad to have you here! To help us create a welcoming community, we have created a set of guidelines to govern the use of our Forums.

By registering, participating as a guest, or using our Forums, you agree to follow the Guidelines and our additional terms and policies:

We may modify the Guidelines or Policies at any time, at our sole discretion. If we do so, we’ll let you know either by posting the modified Guidelines on the Forums or through other communications. It’s important that you review the Guidelines and Policies from time to time because if you continue to use the Forums after we have posted modified Guidelines or Policies, you are indicating to us that you agree to be bound by the modified Guidelines and Policies. If you don’t agree to be bound by the modified Guidelines or Policies, then you can’t use the Forums anymore. Our Forums evolve over time, and we may change or discontinue all or any part of the Forums, at any time and without notice, at our sole discretion.

1. Eligibility for the Forums
You may use the Services only if you are 18 years or older and capable of forming a binding contract with CCleaner and are not barred from using the Services under applicable law or Guidelines.

2.Registering for the Forums
When registering for your Forums account, please keep in mind the following:

  • Avatars can be a maximum of 90x90 and 50kb in size. Avatars can also be in any of these formats: gif, jpg, jpeg, png.
  • Forums signatures are to be used respectfully and cannot include ads, links of malicious nature or other objectionable material such as warez, cracks, pornography, pyramid schemes, referral ID's, ebay listings or requests for donations of any kind. Signatures can be a maximum of 350x100 and 80kb in size.
  • You may have an image at the maximum of 350x100 in your signature at the standard text size and four lines of text with the image.
  • You may have a maximum of six lines of text in your signature at the standard size. Larger font sizes are allowed so long as they do not break the 350x100 limit.
  • X-Fire signatures are an exception to this rule as they only have two sizes that are preset.
  • Custom user titles are not to be abused. Objectionable material in member titles will not be tolerated.
  • Do not use bright flashing colors, animated signatures, audio or video in your avatar or signature to help protect the wellbeing of all Members.

Abusing these privileges will result in them being lost and your account being restricted. Disregarding the above rules will result in the loss of the item in violation without warning.

Should you be disciplined with a restriction or ban, you are not allowed to open a new account to obtain freedom to post. Restrictions and bans are given for a reason, and usurping that ability by re-registering is not tolerated.

If another account is opened, that account will be banned immediately, and the original account will be further penalized. Anyone who has warnings on their account are automatically excluded from changing their username.

3. The use of CCleaner, Piriform or Avast brand terms and visual identity
The CCleaner, Piriform and Avast logos and brand names are reserved for use by staff members, this is so that they can be easily identified as staff.

Any other member who uses the logos or a variant of it will have it removed.

Using 'CCleaner', 'Piriform' or 'Avast' as part of a username will result in the forum account being suspended, renamed, or removed. The offending user may then be advised to re-register with a more appropriate username.

4. Sharing content on Forums
Content shared on the Forums express the views of the author of the message, not the views of the forums community, CCleaner, or the company that manages the Forums.

Any user who feels that content posted on the Forums is not appropriate is encouraged to report it using the Report Content feature, or by private messaging a Moderator or Administrator.

All members and guests are reminded to be respectful to all members when posting. No personal attacks, verbal abuse, or mocking of members will be tolerated. You agree, through your use of the Forums, that you will not use the Forums to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, racist, religious, political, deceptive, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violate any law. Such posts will be deleted on sight and moderated accordingly, and members that fail to lead by example will be warned, failure to ignore a warning may lead to a ban from the Forums.

Spamming, including ads, empty threads, or posting questions under multiple topics, and sharing links to illegally obtained software, movies, music files or other files that circumvent copy protection are not permitted unless the copyright is owned by the Member. The Forums Moderators or Administrators may delete these posts, issue warnings or ban members at their sole discretion. Once an administrator or moderator has closed or removed an unacceptable post or topic it's then deemed to be a closed matter. If the member starts a new topic or posts with the same or similar unacceptable content it will result in administrative actions being taken against the member.

The Forums aim to be helpful to all Members and Guests. When asking questions, please make sure to describe your problem in detail and include a description of the issue in the title of the thread. Please refrain from Private Messaging Moderators or Administrators with your questions and instead create a thread in the Forums. This will benefit the poster and other Members and Guests with the knowledge and expertise of all members.

For general discussion not related to the topics of the Forums, please visit “The Lounge”. We welcome most general conversation in The Lounge, but discourage it from other forums.

Please be aware that the posting of any contents of private messages is expressly forbidden on the Forums.

5. Giving advice on Malware Removal
Giving advice on the removal of Malware by any member is to be discouraged. Even though some members may believe they have the knowledge to offer some basic safe advice, this advice may have disastrous consequences for the original poster or other members, and it could also set a precedent for any member, knowledgeable or otherwise, to do the same.

Malware removal advice should only be dispensed by a qualified Malware Removal Expert on a reputable Malware Removal Forum. If any Member or Guest asks for help on removing Malware, Members should limit themselves to pointing them to Malware Removal Forums, such as BleepingComputer, Malwarebytes Malware Removal, or Avast Malware Removal Forum.

6. Respecting the decision of Moderators
The CCleaner Staff requires that members respect the decision of moderators.

Threads and posts questioning the actions or decisions of Forums moderations will be deleted on sight, and the appropriate action taken (up to and including Forums bans) against the thread starter and/or participants.

Please do not abuse the reporting system, while we appreciate members reporting bad behavior, we don't appreciate rude comments or your opinion on how 'quick' staff are at handling problems around here.

Note
Any infraction of these guidelines will result in a warning placed against your CCleaner Community Forums account and will be added to your overall warning level, and may result in a ban.

If you have any questions or problems, please feel free to contact one of The Moderating Team: https://community.ccleaner.com/staff/.
