  1. If you are not familiar with installing Windows updates manually then I'd leave it until Windows Update does it itself. (There are 38 different variants of that particular update, each one for a different version of Windows 8.1/10/Server- Windows Update will do the correct one for your machine). That throws things. The Insider programme is Beta testing of Windows, you get to try new features early but the price for that is that it's not fully tested/debugged and so can be unstable. It's not that unusual to have odd/strange things happen with Windows Insider builds. Nobody except the Microsoft developers know just what they have done in an Insider build, and even they are not sure if it works properly for everybody; which is why it is out for Beta testing by the Insider program users. Although 19041.685 is now the 'Released To Market' version of Windows 10, if you have an earlier Insider version it may not be fully stable even though it has the same number. If it's not giving you any Automatic Updates I would at least go to Settings>Updates and click on 'Check for Updates'.
  2. I don't see anything like those choices in the standard Firefox Tab context menu; are you running an add-on/extension that is giving you those choices? If you are then I suggest removing the add-on and re-loading it. My Firefox (v84.0.2) shows the following for the right-click Tab context menus:
  3. Although it's not been seen much here, this is a current problem with the underlying Invision software that the forum runs on. It's being particularly bad on another forum I visit regularly; and as you predict has resulted in multiple duplicate posts being made over there. It seems to be a problem with the Invision servers, we had a number of Invision server outages here last week which are probably related. Invision are looking into why it is happening.
  4. Which Browser (tabs) are you talking about here? Just for further info: Which Windows 10 version are you using? Are you running an Antivirus other than Windows Defender?
  5. Those are upd to date, (ish). I have Win 10 build 19042.685, but I did manually update last week to do a removal of the built in Flash. (KB4577586). It's not an Automatic Update yet, probably next Tuesday. Your Malwarebytes is the latest version at 4.3.0.98, although Update package is now 1.0.35465, Component package 1.0.1130. If you are running Malwarebytes real-time it should update those itself. I've not known Malwarebytes to affect CCleaner, but sometimes one of the real-time modues can do odd things and block other apps from working properly, even when excluded. However if you are still having problems with CCleaner with MB4 turned off then it seems to be ruled out anyway. Which would then seem to point to Windows itself. I'd do a restart (not shutdown/reboot) just to make sure there is nothing pending from Windows. Then I'd run Windows built in Disk Clean-Up, selecting 'Clean up System Files'. - It can take a couple of hours to complete if you've not done one for a while. That has been known in the past to 'fix' whatever was causing CCleaner to hang/crash, (I've not seen that for a while though). I'd also check the Windows security App and Browser Control settings, particularly: Reputation-based Protection>Potentially unwanted app blocking. Microsoft have a habit of suddenly deciding that CCleaner is potentially unwanted. It gets sorted out, but then someone at Microsoft does it again. (It's based on what CCeaner would do a number of years ago and not what it does now; bugs the hell out of Piriform staff who have to point out again to Microsoft that they have already cleared this up with Microsoft). Just to make sure; it's only CCleaner that is giving you a problem, you aren't seeing any other odd behaviour?
  6. It should give you two options: Defrag Freespace will consolidate the files into the lowest number of clusters it can without fragmenting them. Defrag Freespace (allow fragmentation) will consolidate the files even tighter, if it can, by allowing some files to be split (fragmented) over clusters. Think of your drive clusters like a row of buckets, any random 4 of which are 3/4 full of different colored sands (4 different, unfragmented, files). You tip that sand into 4 buckets next to each other. That's four files which are now consolidated and not fragmented. You then take the 4th bucket and spread it's sand on top of each of the first 3 buckets. You now have an extra empty bucket (free cluster), because you have split up (fragmented) the 4th bucket of sand (the file) into the first 3 buckets (clusters) to fill them up. PS. None of that necessarily means the files will be at the begining or end of the drive, just that they are packed in (consolidated) to give the free space available showing as a 'block'. None of this is magically creating any extra free space on the drive, it's just moving things about so that you see them differently. The only way to free up extra space on a disc is to delete the files that are taking that space up. TBH it doesn't really matter where on the disc your files are, as long as they are not too fragmented their actual physical position on a HDD will only make a difference of nano-seconds in the computer reading them. It's just 'nice' to see them all together, and 'nicer' if they are at one end or the other. It's a human perception, the computer isn't bothered by it at all.
  7. This is a user forum, not official support. It may take a while for someone to answer depending on when another user who may be able to help logs on. You say that you have problems installing CCleaner, and then when you do install it (by using the slim installer) you have problems getting it to run. The install problem (with only the Slim installer working) usually indicates either an older Windows version or a compatibility setting for an old Windows version, or an AV clash. The won't run problem usually indicates an AV clash. I do note that you say you have no 3rd party AV, but that you are running Windows Defender and Malwarebytes. Can you tell us: Your Windows version and Build? Which version of Malwarebytes you have, and is it running real-time?
  8. We've seen it before a couple of times. If you contact support by email and explain the problem they should be able to either sort it out or issue you with a new license. Email them at: support @ccleaner.com
  9. The Android app permission settings, This seems to be equivalent to your tablet, although it says Android 6 in this article so it looks like yours has been updated to Android 10: https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/solutions/ht501144-how-to-control-app-permissions-lenovo-tab-3-850f More on Android 10 permission settings: https://www.androidauthority.com/android-10-permissions-1040121/
  10. Simply install CCleaner free on the new machine. For simplicity use the Slim installer, 3rd down here: https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds Then go to Options>About and click the 'Upgrade to Pro' button. Enter your registered key and name and click 'Register' (Not Purchase). See this for more details, or if you encounter any problems: https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/articles/204043844--Problems-activating-or-registering-CCleaner-Professional#how-to-register-and-activate-ccleaner-professional-0-0
  11. I'm not sure just what you mean by that, but assume you mean 'Other Files'. That includes all your OS files, Windows backups, Windows update files, etc., some of which will be in 'hidden' folders. Try using Windows built in Disk Clean-up with the 'Clean up System files' option to reduce them. Especially make sure that "Windows Update clean-up" is selected, it can often contain GB of old Windows files. It will take a long time to clean up the old system files. (Could be a couple of hours depending on how much is there) (CCleaner no longer cleans those particular files, with Windows 10 it can be unsafe to remove them prematurely and so it's best left to Windows Disk Clean-up).
  12. Your screenshot shows that the duplicate search is still running. (Rotating circle in the status bar). It will resize as you show whilst the tool is still searching and finding duplicates. Each time it finds new duplicates it will write them to the list, which refreshes the list and so resizes it. Wait until the tool has found all the duplicates and then resize the column, it should then stay resized. So not realy a bug as such, but could be an improvement if they can stop it from happening and keep the column width across refreshes.
  13. Standard Android OS practice is to have the setting on the main Accessibility page, in "Downloaded Apps". But some manufacturers customise Android on their devices, and so it may be somewhere else instead. Samusing is one than customises it, I'm not sure about Lenovo? https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/59230-missing-1-permission/?tab=comments#comment-325100 Maybe a forum dealing with Lenovo tablets would be the place to look?
  14. Yes, and then again not quite. It's all to do with the way data is written to an SSD, which is different to with a HDD. PS. Even this article is 5 years old and SSD technology has moved on since then: https://www.howtogeek.com/234683/why-you-cant-securely-delete-a-file-and-what-to-do-instead/ In simple words data should not be recoverable from a SSD following normal deletion. But it might be with forensic recovery tools. (We are talking government agencies and the like, not the sort of thing a normal user would have access to). There was also the issue with earlier SSDs that a secure erase would use up the limited number of write operations and so shorten the life of the SSD. If you are worried about data (deleted or not) on a SSD then as that article (and the Apple one above) says you should use file encryption. (No guarantee that a forensic agancy couldn't crack that encryption of course). PS. You will see tools advertised that will state they will 100% securely delete SSDs, reputable tools won't make such a claim. There is only one way to make sure that nothing could ever be recovered from a drive, any type of drive, - physically destroy the drive.
  15. Critical security updates: first offered to Release channel users on January 6, 2021. 84.0.2 Firefox 84.1.3 Firefox for Android 78.6.1 Firefox ESR https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/security/advisories/mfsa2021-01/
  16. Is your drive an SSD? Most modern MACs ship with SSD's installed as standard. CCleaner for MAC 'Erase Free Space' will not wipe SSD's, it is not needed. CCleaner for MAC used to tell you that if you seleted an SSD to wipe. Even MAC's own Disk Utility will not let you Secure Erase (wipe) an SSD, again because it is not needed: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/disk-utility/dskutl14079/mac
  17. See this to start with: https://www.ccleaner.com/docs/ccleaner-browser/troubleshooting/how-do-i-uninstall-ccleaner-browser However, CCleaner Browser not uninstalling can be a known problem, I've asked the staff what is happening about resolving it.
  18. If you mean that it is always in the System Tray then we have seen this System Tray icon persistence in a couple of cases. It seems to be an issue with the task not always being removed from the Windows Task scheduler as it should be, so for a few people the task starts up again if/when you reboot your machine. (Which in turn seems to depend on just how the update to 5.74 was done, and in what order the new CCleaner settings were changed). Following the 4 steps, in order, from this post will/should clear it up: https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/59567-cleaner-5748198-runs-smart-cleaning-even-though-i-unchecked-smart-cleaning/?tab=comments#comment-325149 If you need help with Task manager or Task Scheduler then give a shout and we can go through it step-by-step.
  19. I'm out of ideas for now, apart from that maybe your Kaspersky AV is the problem after all. Reading back to your first post you said: I do note that Kaspersky Internet Security is now at version 21.2.16.590, patch B. (Released 11 Dec 2020). Both Patch A and patch B for version 21.2.16.590 (and the older Patch C for version 21.1.15.500) say that they 'fix several application issues'. Which version are you running now? https://support.kaspersky.com/15595#21.2.16.590b Sometimes to get the latest version you have to update your AV from the website rather than through the AV itself. (We have had many posts in the past where the user insisted their AV was up to date, but a check on the AV's website found otherwise, and updating to the latest solved their issue. Some AVs are worse for it than others). If you have a paid for CCleaner then if updating Kaspersky doesn't solve the issue I suggest that you contact support, email them at: support@ccleaner.com
  20. Probably best to let Windows sort out WinSXS itself. (That's the main reason why cleaning of 'Old Windows installations' was dropped from CCleaner). Checking mine it also has plenty of Flash related stuff. No doubt the Flash files will dissapear from it by next month, or possibly even on Patch Tuesday.
  21. Just click on the 'Stop' button and defraggler will stop safely. TBH with TB drives a full defrag/consolidation is going to take a long time, and is usually not necessary. Do a files only defrag instead, See these for an explanation of the two diffrent defrag types, and a step-by step of how to do a files only defrag: https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/58715-deffragler-dosnt-complite-the-defragmatation/?tab=comments#comment-321773 https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/59792-need-3rd-option-besides-quick-defrag-and-defrag/?tab=comments#comment-326076
  22. Ah, WinSXS. You can think of WinSXS (Windows side-by-side) as a merging of 'Windows.old' and the Component Store, so it will have old stuff in there from before it was removed to allow rollbacks of updates. It also contains stuff from newly downloaded installs that hasn't been installed yet, links to binaries, etc., etc. More about Win SXS: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/manage-the-component-store Windows itself will clean it up automatically after a while as the files are no longer needed, or as rollback times expire. You can also clean it up manually, as far as possible: Use Disc Cleanups 'Clean up system files' and tick 'Windows Update clean-up'. You can also use 'StartComponentCleanup' and/or dism.exe to clean more. More detailed info about cleaning it manually: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/clean-up-the-winsxs-folder

  24. As well as removing the CP icon it removed the .exe and all the other embedded Flash files when I ran it, but it did leave the empty FlashPlayer folder behind. But it didn't remove them until I did a restart after running the KB; you have done a restart? Where are you seeing remnants? I'm still seeing a few registry entries, particularly potential file associations, from the built in Flash add-on for Edge/Edge Chromium, (presumably there will be some for Google Chrome itself and other Chromium based browsers if you have one installed?). Although those browser add-ons should have been removed by now, or at least permenantly disabled. I'm also seeing a 'FlashDebug' registry entry for Acrobat Reader DC. There are probably more leftovers, I haven't searched the whole registry.
  25. No problem, but doing it that way in the System Tray then Windows will always reset the window size to 'normal' on a restart/reboot. It's a Windows setting that you cannot change. To achieve what you want and always have the CCleaner window open to maximised every time, even after a restart, then you would have to do things a slightly different way. You just have to change where the CCleaner icon that you use is located. You need to 'Pin' CCleaner to the Taskbar, similar to this screenshot, and then always use that Taskbar icon to launch CCleaner with just one click. To do that: In File Explorer navigate to: C:\Program Files\CCleaner Right Click on 'CCleaner64.exe' and in the context menu that comes up click 'Pin to Taskbar'. You can then use the instructions in the article linked above to set it's properties to always open maximised. Once you have done the above then if you have "Minimise to System Tray" ticked in CCleaners Advanced Options you can untick it (it will minimise to the Taskbar icon instead). Note that as in the above screenshot you will also still see a Ccleaner icon in the System Tray if you have Smart Cleaning or Automatic Updates enabled in CCleaner, that's because they run as background tasks, you can just leave that one alone and simply launch CCleaner from the Taskbar icon. Hope that helps, sorry for the earlier confusion.
