  1. I wouldn't say it's a crappy add-on, the best recommended free one didn't find anything different on my machine. It's hard to tell/compare without knowing just what is in those databases. There again as I hinted before, in my opinion any software updater is unnecessary bloat. If you think about it it's the kind of thing that has led to WiFi connected fridges that tell you that need to 'update' your supply of eggs. Do you realy need that?
  2. I don't think so, it will only show the apps you have installed that it can update; mine only shows three: As I said Health Check did try to do another one (CutePDF, but that is a bit tricky to update sometimes requiring an update of a scripting engine as well, which Health Check couldn't seem to handle). Earlier today I tried a couple of the most popular free software updaters, just as an experiment. I won't give names but the most commonly recommended one found nothing to update. A lesser known but still recommeded one found 2 visual C++ redistributables, (who cares?), plus another app that I don't use that often and wouldn't expect many people to have anyway. I might update it next time I use it. (DWG TrueView, an AutoCAD drawing viewer used by draughtsmen/designers, mainly when they are out of the office and don't have/need access to full AutoCAD).
  3. That's easy sunbeam - Andre Preview. There again I am English, and getting older.
  4. Yes Firefox changed the way that it handles cookies/supercookies with v85. https://blog.mozilla.org/security/2021/01/26/supercookie-protections/ I'm still trying to get my head around the changes myself but as I understand it each of those 'partitions' is set up for each website that you visit. So instead of one 'Supercookie' being generated that will span all websites, a new one one is generated for each website that references it. Which means that the same 'supercookie' could now be stored multiple times rather than just once, but because of that it isn't as 'Super' as it used to be. Think of it a bit like the difference between putting your telepone number in a directory once so that everyone in the world can see it, or giving it to your friends multiple times so that only they can see it. It doesn't affect the 'Saved Logins' setting in CClearer though. (That only clears out the list of logins/passwords that you have saved to Firefox, use very, very, carefully or have your passwords saved elsewhere so you can put them back again). Whether you stay logged into a site or not depends on if you clear 'Sessions' or not. Are you seeing anything different other than the way that the cookies are now being listed in CCleaner with those partition keys?
  5. A quick look the popular updater apps shows they have anywhere between 50 and 1,500 programmes in their databases. Not all of them give a list though. That's a bit misleading though because some list both 32bit and 64bit seperately where others list them as one. There can also be a lot of obscure software listed, or even expired software that will never get another update. I don't know how many are in the database(s) that CCleaner uses now, I've never seen it published anywhere. TBH I just have my apps set to notify me of updates, if they have that setting, then when I come to use one if it gives me a notification I'll usually do what I wanted and then update it once I've finished working. I don't see the point of updating something multiple times if I'm not actually using it that often. To me a software updater is only of use for apps that don't do their own checks.
  6. That is what that that function is supposed to do - run a clean at startup and then close. If you can tell us what it is that you want CCleaner to do we can tell you how to do that.
  7. That is not unusal with Windows 10, Windows needs the registry entry so keeps putting it back. That particular registry entry (for SpeechRuntime.exe) is for future use, in Windows 10 21H1, by Cortana, Accessibility Options (for visually impaired users), and some audio drivers. In fact it is now already in use and will 'break' some audio drivers if completely removed. That is why Windows is putting it back if you remove it. Our advice, and Microsoft's, is - don't use any registry cleaner on a regular basis with Windows 10 - if you do you may 'break' your Windows 10 and have to reinstall Windows from scratch. Windows 10 changes the registry frequently, and registry cleaning apps will never be able to keep up with that. Registry cleaning is an advanced tool (mainly for use on an already broken computer), it's not meant for regular use and will not speed up a working machine in any way. Here is the Microsoft article about (not) using regisrty cleaners: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/2563254/microsoft-support-policy-for-the-use-of-registry-cleaning-utilities The post below this one gives Piriform/CCleaner's current policy about using the registry cleaner. If you still insist on using the Reg Cleaner after reading that, then if you right click on that entry and 'Add to Exclude list' it will be ignored from then on.
  8. You have to remember that the software updater is/was an add-on tool to CCleaners main purpose of cleaning junk, so it's not going to be as comprehensive as a dedicated software updater. That said, now that it has been made an integral part of Health Check ('Security' in the Pro version) it should be made more comprehensive over time. Interestingly last week Health Check updated one app, (or at least tried to), on my machine that isn't even listed in the Software Updater tool. Which suggests there is already a difference between the databases being used by Health Check and Software Updater. (You have to be careful if using it in Health Check, the main screen only tells you how many it has found to update not what they are. You should click on 'Security' to look at whatever it has found to update before letting it update them). The number of apps that can be recognised and updated by different dedicated updaters, and which apps they can update, varies widely.
  9. Translation: I have no idea why it would read before purchase but not after. As you have now puchased Recuva then you have paid for support. I suggest that you contact support by emailing then at: support@ccleaner.com Give them a link to this thread.
  10. I don't believe that they are using filehippo anymore, not sure what they are using instead. But yes, any software updater works to a database so an app has to be on that database for it to be checked for an update.
  11. I think you'll need to give more details for anyone to be able to answer and possibly help. How 'LARGE' is the drive? Is it an HDD or an SSD? What filesystem was/is it formatted with? How full was it? How fragmented was it? In your 'attempt' to defragment did it crash or did it complete? If it didn't complete about how far % did it get, and what error message did you get? What type of defragment were you doing? (Full, quick, files only, free space?). What Windows version/build are you using? Which antivirus are you using? It might seem a lot of questions but better to give as much info of what happened as you can at the start, even if it's not needed. Others may have more questions depending on the answers to the above.
  12. It appears to be the translation. That error message is actualy "Could not determine file system type" which indicates that the SD card has a format that Recuva cannot read. Do you know what filesystem the card is formatted with? It could be just a bad contact, try taking the card out and putting it back in again.
  13. I think that you are looking at the wrong setting. 'Launch the CCleaner app window each time the computer starts' puts a flashing icon in the system tray when the computer starts, but ony for seconds while the clean is running and it disappears when the clean has finished. If you mean the icon remains in the system tray (not flashing) then there are two functions that do that: Smart Cleaning: If you have Smart Cleaning enabled it needs to run in the background to monitor for junk building up, or for a browser being closed. 'Keep CCleaner updated automatically': This needs to run in the background to periodically check if an update is avaiable. (I believe it checks every 12 hours). If either of those options is selected then you will get the icon in the system tray . If you manualy close it then those functions will stop working.
  14. Apart from anything else the drive you are searching is 'diskstation' which is a NAS drive. As far as I am aware CCleaners Duplicate Finder cannot read NAS formated drives
  15. Yes that would explain it. CCleaner was clearing your history, but the tabs that were open when you closed the browser would be saved in 'Sessions' and put straight back into the history when you reopened the browser.
  16. We don't have many Mac users on this user forum. As you have a paid licence then you may be best contacting support with your problem, after all you are paying for support. email them at support@ccleaner.com It's best to email from the address you used to purchase/register CCleaner, but if you can't do that then let them know what that email address was and/or you licence number.
  17. Strange, so a few questions to try and work out what is happening. Just to make sure first, we are talking about Google Chrome browser? Where are you seeing this persistent history? (ie. in the browser, in CCleaner, or somewhere else?) Is it always the same websites? Are you willing/able to share a screenshot of what you are seeing? Are you using Health Check or Custom Clean? If it's Custom Clean then what do you have ticked/unticked for Chrome? And for completeness: Which Windows version are you on? and which Antivirus do you use?
  18. You keep saying the same thing, it is not enough information. You do not need a licence to be able to recover files with Recuva. You will have to give more details, and a screenshot would help. What are you trying to recover the files from? (The translation now says a card not a disk). What version of Windows are you using?
  19. The fact that you can clear them only through the browser suggest that you have syncing enabled. Have a look at this for why things may be coming back after cleaning with CCleaner, including if you are synced, and what you can do about it: https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/52668-tracking-files/?tab=comments#comment-300043
  20. No need to start 2 threads, I've merged them together. See the reply above.
  21. It's a Chromium based browser so this should be the same: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95314?co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop&hl=en Note that there is a difference between the Startup Page and the page for new tabs. If that doesn't do just what you are wanting then look at the many 'new tab' extensions available for Chrome.
  22. From a post made yesterday by a staff member: I would suggest that you contact support who can advise further, or give a refund for the unused licence. Email them at support@ccleaner.com
  23. The main advice is not to use any Registry Cleaner with Windows 10. Windows 10 registry changes too often for any register cleaner to safely keep up. See this Microsoft article: Le principal conseil est de ne pas utiliser de nettoyeur de registre avec Windows 10. Le registre de Windows 10 change trop souvent pour qu'un nettoyeur de registre puisse suivre en toute sécurité. Consultez cet article Microsoft: https://support.microsoft.com/fr-fr/topic/politique-de-support-microsoft-pour-l-utilisation-des-utilitaires-de-nettoyage-de-registre-0485f4df-9520-3691-2461-7b0fd54e8b3a
  24. @inbuon The transaction details that you posted show a Paypal debit of One Cent. That looks like a Paypal account authorisation/verification check and not a payment. Paypal do that now and again and the 1 cent should be refunded from Paypal.
  25. Sorry but your question is not clear. (Maybe the translation?) Recuva does not need to be purchased to recover files, the free version will recover files. Could you give a screenshot of what you are seeing?
