  1. Uninstall it just like any other app. Or are you meaning something else?
  2. CCleaner hasn't changed so it must be your Windows setup. Can you post a screenshot of what you are seeing?
  3. I for one will be glad when Black Friday is over. 'This website is temporarily unavailable', 'Temporary server problem', slow/throttled connection, connection dropouts, CSS not being loaded on webpages so you have to refresh them, etc.,etc.,etc. These are all being caused by Black Friday, no system administrator in their right mind would be doing any upgrades or maintenance this weekend. And it's all so people can save (maybe) some money on things that they don't need, probably didn't want in the first place, and will hardly use before it's relegated to the back of the cupboard. Things they do need or want they would have bought anyway without black Friday. But OK there are some deals to be had if you need/want something. And don't talk about cheap Christmas presents - most of those also end up never used in the back of a cupboard - Bah Humbug. (I reckon that if you cleaned your never-used kitchen gadgets out you'd only need a kitchen half the size). If you have been surfing the Black Friday shopping deals then use CCleaner to clean up your browsing tracks -who knows what cookies you have picked up? Rant over.
  4. You may need to uninstall/re-install CCleaner to get rid of it from the applications tab now that the Opera leftovers have gone. You'll have to re-enter your registered name and licence key after re-installing so make sure that you have a note of them first. (They can be found at Options>About>Licence Information, or on your purchase email). When uninstalling/re-installing (which we do more than most when helping out here) we tend to use the 'Slim' installer from here: https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds It's a little bit smaller/quicker than the Standard installer, but installs the same CCleaner.
  5. The price is higher than in the offer because its a Cashback offer. You pay the full price then 2 days later you can claim the difference back yourself by using this webpage: https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/cashback/claim You need to give 2 days before claiming for internal processing of your order. For the registration problem: Check that the name/key is exactly the same as you registered, capitals spaces etc, the best way is to copy and paste them from your confirmation email. (We have known people spell their own names wrong when purchasing). See this for common registration problems and fixes: https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/articles/204043844-How-to-register-and-activate-CCleaner-Professional Remember also that it's Black Friday, so there may be a lot of purchases being made and it may be taking time for your purchase to be recorded, I'd try registering again later.
  6. I not sure just what happened with the fix for that one. I'm still seeing it here too if I try to change the 'save to ini' setting. I'll give those who were dealing with it a ping, but it may now be Monday before they answer. @MeganCCleaner and @Andrei CCleaner any news on this?
  7. There will be a leftover from the Opera uninstall still lingering somewhere on your computer which CCleaner is still finding. Many apps when uninstalled will leave traces behind. (Some do it deliberately, so that if for instance you try to install more than one free trial they will know you've already had one). It's probably a registry key, possibly a file association somewhere - ie. if you had/havea certain file type set to open in Opera then there will be a reg entry for that. If you are confident using the Registry Editor then you could search it for anything 'Opera' - Usual warning: Don't use the Registry Editor if you are not confident in doing so, you could mess or even brick your machine if you are not sure what you are doing in there. If you are on Windows 10 you could ignore it until the next Windows Feature Update which should (may) remove the ghost. (or you could reinstall Windows, but that's a bit drastic for a minor annoyance). Revo uninstaller is good at finding those leftovers and removing them, use with care and read up about using it before trying. If you get the Free version of Revo then the easiest way is probably to reinstall Opera and then uninstall it again using Revo. Revo will use Operas own uninstaller and then search for leftovers, if you tell it to, again be careful and use with care (you don't want to remove the wrong thing). The Pro version (or Pro trial) can even clear up leftovers from things that were uninstalled before you got Revo using a special mode, again read up about it before trying.
  8. Good to hear that following those steps worked for you. Let us know if the problem comes back, but it shouldn't do now. Your issue with your forum password is a different matter, if you are still having problems with that then I suggest you start a new thread/topic in 'The Lounge': https://community.ccleaner.com/forum/7-the-lounge/ Starting a new thread will enable focus just to be on the password issue.
  9. OK, do the following in this exact order: Open CCleaner and completely turn off Smart Cleaning (untick everything there) and then in Updates untick "Keep CCleaner updated automatically". Close CCleaner. Check Task Manager to see if CCleaner is still running in the background; if it is then kill the task. Now go to Task Scheduler and if "CCleaner Update" is still there delete it. Close everything and Restart your machine. (Restart not Shutdown/reboot). Tell us if the CCleaner icon still comes back in the System Tray now.
  10. Thank you Jamesj, but that's just a repeat of what you posted before. Please re- read my last post and reply with the screenshots and the answer to the question - "do you actually mean change it to a different password (reset it) or do you simply mean type it in again?".
  11. I said delete it from Task Scheduler, not Task Manager. 'upgrade to the newer version'?? The thread title says you were already on the latest version (v5.74.8198), if instead you are actually using v5.74.8184 then the above fix won't work. (and the update will be 'added back' as you describe). Can you give us screenshots on both your Smart Cleaner page and Update page? (include the header with the CCleaner version). You shouldn't be having to reset your password for the forum - do you actually mean change it to a different password (reset it) or do you simply mean type it in again?
  12. That particular offer plainly says 1 year 3 pc's (1 jaar,3 pc's), it doesn't say anything there about 2 years. There are currently a few different offers, some are only available to existing subscribers, some to everyone. The 2 year CCleaner Pro subscription is normally a higher price than the standard 24.95 for 1 year, (Standard price here in the UK is £24.95 for 1 year, or £44.95 for 2 years). But 2 years isn't included in that particular Black Friday offer anyway. Take the 1 year offer now at 4.95 € (after cashback), and then when it's due to end next year there will no doubt be another, similar, Black Friday offer.
  13. Don't edit the registry; use Task Scheduler see below. I've done some testing and eventually managed to reproduce this problem, (It took me about 10 tries to reproduce it). It looks as if for some reason the scheduled update task is still occasionally, but not always, being created by turning on Smart Cleaning (which it shouldn't be) - and then not being removed if Smart Cleaning is turned off again. (which is right, the update task shouldn't be removed by turning Smart Cleaning off). This is what I did to fix it: Turn off Smart Cleaning and "Keep CCleaner updated automatically", close CCleaner and then open Task Scheduler. Look in Task Scheduler Library and if there is still a 'CCleaner Update' task then delete it. For those not familiar/comfortable with Task Scheduler then if you are having this problem this sequence should do the same thing (but I've not been able to test it). Open CCleaner and turn on "Keep CCleaner updated automatically", close CCleaner, reopen CCleaner and turn off "Keep CCleaner updated automatically", close CCleaner again and that should have killed the scheduled task. (The closing and reopening between changing the setting is important). I've not been able to test/verify that second method because once I'd used the the Task Scheduler method I can't get the problem to come back again.

    Cookies Skipped

It seems unusual that it is skipping both IE and Edge at the same time, what other apps do you have open or minimised when CCleaner is skipping? PS. I'm assuming that you mean it is showing them skipped like this for Firefox? (I had Firefox open). If not then can you post a screenshot of what you mean. Another thought occurs to me. Do you have CCleaner Pro set to clean more than one user profile, and if so are IE and Edge maybe open in that (those) other profile(s)? What are the Windows feedback settings for those other user profiles? The easy way to check that would be to try turning CCleaner to the 'Current user only' and seeing if it still skips them.
  15. I suspect that you are actually talking about the CCleaner icon appearing in the System Tray when CCleaner is running in the background. There are two things that can run in the background and put that icon there: Options>Smart Cleaning. - if you have any part of Smart Cleaning active then there will be an icon in the system tray. Options>Updates>'Keep CCleaner updated automatically'. - This is a new setting in CCleaner v5.74 and if ticked it will also put an icon in the system tray. If you turn both of those options off then CCleaner will not be running anything in the background and the icon will go away. (If both options are on then you only see one icon not two).
  16. It's correct that if there are no scan results at all then Defender assumes that a scan has never been run on your machine, and so asks to run one when you boot or restart. I'm with Andavari, leave the option unticked in reguar use and just run it once in a while when the Defender scan logs have built up. (You can right-click the option to run a one-off clean, rather than having to tick it, clean, then untick it again). If you do leave the option ticked then you can just start a Defender scan and then carry on with whatever you are doing as Defender does a scan in the background.
  17. A cash refund, (to the account that you used to make the purchase), in the currency that you used to make the purchase. No further purchase is necessary. Please read the Terms and Conditions: https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/cashback/terms-and-conditions

    Cookies Skipped

Browsers being skipped is a sign that the browser, or some component/extension of the browser is still running, possibly running in the background. Certain Microsoft apps may also be accessing IE or EDGE even when the browsers themselves are closed, especially if you use a Microsoft account rather than a Local account. Check in Task Manager to see if anything IE or EDGE related is still running after they have been closed. Is this New EDGE or Legacy EDGE? New Edge is Chromium based and may run background tasks when closed, see this for how to stop that: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-prevent-new-microsoft-edge-running-background-windows-10 With both IE (and EDGE) it's possibly the Windows 10 feedback setting. Go to Windows Settings >privacy >Diagnostics and feedback and set it to 'Required diagnostic feedback' without the optional data. You could also turn all the other settings to off, and set it to never ask for feedback.
  19. The 'icon always in the system tray' has already been fixed with v5.74.8198. If you still have v5.74.8184 then please update by clicking on 'Check for Updates' in the bottom left corner. Then disable both Smart Cleaning and 'Keep Ccleaner updated automatically' if you don't want an icon in the tray. The dump file issue is still to be fixed.
  20. You are just a bit early making the claim. That's a new offer (it's Black Friday time again) and the claim/redemption page isn't active until tomorrow, 25th Nov. It looks like the "promotion has ended" message has simply been left over from the last cashback promotion, and hasn't been changed. @Dave CCleanerworth making a note to change that wording when a new cashback offer is due the and the new T&C's are put up? Looking at the terms and conditions for the current cashback offer it says: So it's too early to redeem it yet, give it a day - in fact give it two days because it also says: Presumably that 2 days is to give plenty of time for your purchase to be recorded/validated with the people running the cashback. If you are still having problems claiming in a couple of days then please come back and report it.
  21. First to note that this thread was about CCleaner v5.64, a full 10 versions ago, so yours is unlikely to be the same issue with the current v5.74. Your issue sounds more like an an antivirus or Windows problem rather than CCleaner itself. The fact that CCleaner is not appearing in the Task Manager indicates that CCleaner is not launching/running at all, and so it can't be interfering. If it was launching but getting stuck then you would still see it in Task Manager, with a 'Not Responding' flag. That again looks like something is happening before CCleaner gets to launch, and is stopping it from launching. A blue spinning circle is often an indication that Windows itself is stuck for some reason. Are you running any antivirus other than Windows Defender? If so then try turning off/disabling that Antivirus to see if that makes a difference to the behavour. Are you installing CCleaner on your system drive, or on your H drive? Do you have Windows redirects in place for the H drive? (Redirects are known to sometimes cause problems on Win 10). If you are installing CCleaner on your H drive then try installing CCleaner in the standard location on the system drive. (The C drive) There are a few things Windows related that can stop your desktop icons from working, (We'll rule out mouse or keyboard problems for now, it doesn't sound like those). File Explorer could have stopped/frozen. If that's happened then a restart of your computer should fix that. Restart not Shut-Down is the best way. (Or Kill and restart the File Explorer process if you know how to do that). https://www.windowsdigitals.com/cant-click-anything-on-desktop-windows-10/ Your icon cache could have become corrupted, see this for how to reset it: https://www.howtogeek.com/232779/how-to-rebuild-a-broken-icon-cache-in-windows-10/ Or your local cache could have become corrupted, see the following: https://www.howtogeek.com/679171/how-to-clear-your-cache-in-windows-10/

    wont defrag

Well different defragmenters will report different things, but a 40% difference seems a lot. Can you post screenshots of your Defreggler screen both before and following a defrag?
  23. All good questions. There is only a 'Trial' download on the webpage, although it does show a price to buy. I've just downloaded installed Kamo to see what it's doing and for me the 'Upgrade now' button does nothing. If I go to Menu>Settings there is an 'Activate' button, but that just asks for an activation code. There is this documentation about activating Kamo, but it doesn't say anything about how to purchase an activation code: https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/articles/360045987731-How-do-I-activate-Kamo- As Kamo is still a fairly new product then it's possible that Kamo may still be in beta release and isn't available for purchase yet? If so then the trial should simply continue without registration? @Sandra CCleaner @Jenny CCleanercan you give any insights into this activation issue and the posters other questions please.
  24. I think you may have misread/misunderstood my post. It's not just Smart Cleaning that can now put a CCleaner icon in the System Tray. Automatic updating can now also put an icon in the System Tray. The 'Keep CCleaner updated automatically' option has been changed in CCleaner v5.74, it now runs as a background task which it didn't do before. (And Free users didn't have Automatic Updates before). It's that new background task which can also put an icon in the system tray. The startup task that it creates if selected can be easily turned off, there is nothing sneaky about it. Simply turning off 'Keep CCleaner updated automatically' disables the startup task without you needing to do anything else. (There was/is no need to go to into Task Scheduler, and certainly not to edit the registry yourself). On the other question of Explorer MRUs; Having the 'Do not show this warning again' ticked will simply skip MRUs if Explorer is open and won't show you that message. In that case the MRUs will only ever be cleaned if Explorer is already closed before you run CCleaner. But if you never want them to be cleaned anyway then why do you have them ticked to be cleaned?
  25. As far as I'm aware there has been no change to CCleaner policy, however browsers like Chrome and Firefox are constantly changing. (Chrome especially). If your Chrome was being cleaned in the past but isn't now then it may be that Chrome, or a Chrome extension you have added at some time, is now still running a background task after you have closed it. See this for more information about how to stop Chrome background tasks: https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/articles/204210674-Why-is-Chrome-cleaning-being-skipped-
