  1. I suspect that is because Windows 7 is now 'End of Life' and so is no longer being supported by Microsoft. They don't need to produce any logfiles because they don't need them anymore. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-7-support-ended-on-january-14-2020-b75d4580-2cc7-895a-2c9c-1466d9a53962
  2. If you are using Custom Clean (I believe you are from that message text) then in the box that pops up to ask if you want to close the browser there should be a tickbox for 'Do not show this message again'. Tick that box before you say NO and it should not come up again. But your browser will not be fully cleaned unless it is fully closed, CCleaner cannot fully clean an open browser or one that has background tasks running. Alternatively you could go to Options>Advanced and tick 'Hide warning messages' but that will turn off all warnings. If you are using Health Check the warning cannot be turned off. Which browser are we talking about here? Older CCleaner versions: Filehippo used to be the partner site for CCleaner downloads, but they are no longer partners and the last version they have is 5.68 (and previous versions). Piriform want you to use the latest CCleaner version because things change with Windows and other software so older CCleaner versions will not be as effective and may even do things that you don't want it to. For instance CCleaner used to be able to clean Windows Update files and 'Windows Old' files, but doing that with Windows 10 can be a disaster because Win10 still needs some of them for a month or so following an update, so CCleaner now leaves them alone. Chrome and Firefox are constantly changing where they store things, so older CCleaner versions may not clean them correctly or may even clean the wrong things. Etc., etc.
  3. @xCleanI also can't see what your post has to do with CCleaner - but I do recognise it as an attempt to help others. So please read the rest of this. I think that you misunderstand who a forum moderator is, and what moderating a forum entails. Forum moderators are users who have shown themselves to be knowledgeable and trustworthy, but there is more to it than that. You also have to know about spammers and their tactics; how to spot/ban them so that they don't annoy everyone else - it's pre-requiste for being invited to be a moderator. You cannot ask to be a moderator, you are invited - usually by existing knowledgeble and trustworthy moderators who have seen what you post and recognise your integrity. To go futher; this is a company forum and although we are not employees the moderators here are users who have a good knowledge and skills. I believe that we are valued for that by the company and they listen to us, even when we critisize and yell at them if something goes wrong. When we do yell they listen. So to get back to your comment: We don't know the ins and outs of every Piriform product. Some of us know a lot about some about some products and less about others. But we will try to help where we can, and if nobody else is piping up then we may make a suggestion. One thing we have in common - We all give up our time (for free) to help others where we can, and make suggestions where we are not sure but think it may help.
  4. That's it - the renewal nags should stop in time, but otherwise uninstall your curent CCleaner and reinstall the free version. You will still get the occasional nag to upgrade/purchase Pro.
  5. Don't know why it's taking so long for you. If the disc/files were badly fragmented to start with it could take a few long runs to get it all organised. The other main factors are how much free space there is on the disc (the more the better), how much RAM you have (the more...), how fast your CPU is (the faster ...), and if you or your computer is doing anything else at the same time. And of course how you personally use your computer and what for. As I say Defraggler tries to do the best of both defrag and consolidate so if you defrag once a week then things should get more organised over time and change the balance, and so get quicker to run. (Like I said above about my consolidation already being pretty good, so Defraggler spent more time on newly defragmented files).
  6. I've previously posted a workaround for the Skip UAC issue: https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/59402-turning-off-giving-ccleaner-permission-everytime-windows-10-boots-workround/?tab=comments#comment-324431 I'll repeat the basic steps here: That resets the scheduled task for Windows 10, it should be similar for Win7 or Win8 and is worth trying. I haven't found a workround for the INI issue yet though.
  7. Defraggler as default runs a combination of defragment and consolidate. (They are two different things although both are refered to as simply defragmenting). Defragmenting puts each individual file into one piece so that it can be accessed (slightly) more quickly. Consolidation put all the files as close together as possible (contiguous) to save space on the drive. As said, by default Defraggler does a combination of the two to try and give you the best of both. - But you can force it to do either one or the other. If you do an Analyze and then 'View files', select the files and defrag selected, that that will defrag the files without consolidation. If instead you go to the menu at the top and select Action>Advanced>Defrag Freespace that should consolidate the files and make them as contiguous as possible. There are two options for Defrag Free Space, Defrag Freespace - will keep the files in one piece and so may leave some empty space in clusters. Defrag Freespace (allow fragmantation) - will attempt to fill up the clusters entirely, which means that some files will be fragmented to fill them up. Note that some files are 'pegged' to locations on the disc and so cannot be consolidated in this way. Sometimes that is because they are in use (certain Windows defender files for example), sometimes Windows has pegged them to a specific location (The Windows pagefile being the classic example). Try a 'Boot Time Defrag' from the Settings menu to see if it will defrag/consolidate those. What type of drive is it (HDD or SSD) and how big? I expect it to be in the TB range if it's taking hours to defrag. Here's a screenshot of my C drive drivemap after a Defrag Freespace and then a files only defrag. The analyze took about 30 seconds, defrag freespace about 2 mins (it was pretty good already), the files only defrag took about 15 mins but I was also working online while it was running. As you can see it's now reporting 0% fragmented, most of the clusters are contiguous, but there are freespace gaps because some files are 'pegged' to their locations on the disc. Note in particular those 4 lower clusters, they have system files in them and never get moved. (Although a 'Boot Time Defrag' from 'Settings' may be able to do that, I've not run that in a while. - I do know that's the only way to defrag the Windows Pagefile, my pagefile used to be in two blocks but as you can see it's now consolidated).
  8. Irfanview is still going and still supported, I use it as my prefered photo viewer/editor. As Dave CCleaner says it can often open files that other viewers can't. There is no native MAC version of Irfanview but it can be used on MACs, see the question/answer here: https://www.irfanview.com/faq.htm#PAGE15
  9. This is an offical Piriform/CCleaner forum and as such is dedicated to CCleaner and other Piriform software. Did you not realise that any reply on an official product forum is likely to be a tad biased toward that product? (And that plugs for rival products will be removed). There are plenty of comparison sites on the internet.
  10. Again that's probably an issue reaching the servers, which Health Check needs to do. It could be due to the servers themselves, or your internet connection, or your Antivirus/Firewall blocking access to the server. To help narrow down what your problem may be being caused by try the following in order: Run a clean using Custom Clean instead of Health Check. Then run Tools>Startup; don't do anything, just click on it and watch if it sticks or crashes. (That's the equivalent of Health Checks 'Speed' section). Then run Tools>Software updater, it takes a few seconds but again just watch. (That's the equivalent of Health Checks 'Security' section). You should be able to run them one after the other. If any of them sticks then just close CCleaner, reopen it and go to the next one. If any closes CCleaner then just reopen it and go to the next one. Which (if any) of the 3 does CCleaner get stuck or close on?
  11. I imagine that the total size of deleted files that Recuva has found is reported by Windows as above 1TB - when all the original filesizes of the deleted files it has found are added up. Obviously in your case the data for some those files is no longer all there though. (The deleted data that has been overwritten again will not be recoverable). If the cluster(s) used by a deleted file are then used again by another file, which is then deleted and the clusters used again by another file, which is then deleted and the clusters used again, and so on ..... then those particular clusters will be counted as in use by different deleted files 2, 3, or even more times. So say for instance Recuva has found a file header in the master file table that says the deleted file was originally 20 MB in size then Recuva will want 20 MB available to recover that file IF it is recoverable. Which not all of them will be in this case because the original clusters were later overwritten but Recuva won't know that. (I'm ready to be corrected but I believe that Recuva would try to recover those clusters for each deleted file anyway, hence why it wants the space available for each, but they will no longer have any revelence to the earlier deleted file(s) which will thus be unreadable after recovery). If it says that the destination drive is not big enough to hold everything it has found if it could recover it all, then you could try changing your scan options to recover in smaller chunks (maybe filetype by filetype, or directory by directory?) rather than all at once.
  12. @Aaron0x42 Nothing in my reply is incorrect. (Not even the comment about cotton vs silk shirts). Why you think that a reply to the original poster about his drive being seen as a SDD and so some options being greyed out has anything whatsoever to do with your hard drive is baffling? You don't even say if you are having an issue or not, so all I will note is that wiping free space on a 10TB hard drive is going to take a long time.
  13. I'm not sure why that is happening. It may be a glitch with the new system. We have no access to the licensing system here on the forum, so you will have to email support to try and get this resolved. EDIT - Sorry I forgot to say contact the Licensing/Support team by email to: support@ccleaner.com In the meantime I will flag this up to the staff.
  14. Have you updated to the new version of CCleaner that has been released today? In Options>About you can now have more control to manage your licences. I don't know if this may be related to your problem but it is worth a look.
  15. Do you have a multimeter to test the battery output? If it's OK for a week or two before cropping up again then you may just be fitting old or duff batteries that are dying after a week or two, especially if you're getting them all from the same source. They have a long shelf life but it's not infinite. Plus if you are getting cheap/counterfeit ones then who knows, and unfortunately there are many fakes out there even on places like Amazon. Other than that then as you say check the contacts, a pencil eraser is good for cleaning contacts. Also I'm sure that you already have but check that your Time Zone setting is correct and it's not resetting to a different time zone. (Something niggles me that I read somewhere that using a VPN to say that you are in a different country can sometimes have an effect on the time zone settings?). Then a good malware scan just to make sure that it's not an infection that is causing it. (Unlikely but possible).
  16. At least they haven't tried to copy Apple/Android with silly names that mean nothing sensible. (Apart from Windows Vista of course). Apple seem to be stuck on mountains/deserts, and Android seems to be running a sweet shop.
  17. Yes we understand why they are doing it to avoid confusion with the year/month format, the question was why use "H" (which is an accounting term/shorthand for the year half) and not "U" (for update/upgrade)? Come to that, why not even "V" for version - as in 20V1 and 20V2? That would be more in keeping with usual software version naming. It would even let them have a 20V3 if necessary (you can't sensibly have a 3rd year half). I guess that using the accounting terms "H1/H2" for year halves just shows that Microsoft is being run by the accountants?
  18. Hopefully one of the members who knows more about using Recuva will be along to give help. For now, and after looking back through some old threads: What kind of format does the drive have? If it is FAT32 then you may have problems. Maybe try the suggestion here from @Andavari to see if it can create new headers for the files?: https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/51594-mp4-files-recovered-but-wont-play/
  19. I don't no about drobo but sometimes recovered video has an incorrect file header. (Again don't know why but it happens). If you do an online search you will find various apps (free or paid) that can restore mp4 headers and/or fix other errors. One or two of those may be worth a try. You say this has happened more than once so if these are important (and if you can get them back) you should seriously consider making a backup copy of the files to an external drive and putting it somewhere safe. (Preferably not in your house in case it gets struck by a crashing plane/meteorite, or you have a fire/burgulary).
  20. I don't have CCleaner browser and don't know peacock, so: Can you make the cookies etc. for peacock an exception in the browser settings? Of course you could always just use Firefox or Chrome to watch it. I suggest try adding the "Malwarebytes Browser Guard" extension to either Firefox or Chrome (it's free) - if that blocks peacock then you will know there is some reason it's being blocked by CCleaner Browser.
  21. I've already reported it to the staff thanks, and another possible 20H2 issue. It's always going to be an issue - Microsoft changes something and then everyone else has to work out what they have done and catch up.
  22. I don't know but that is a very interesting question; especially in light of this weeks 20H2 update. We know that Micrisoft are doing things on your computer in advance of updates (to make the update itself faster) so maybe recording registry values is a part of that? If MS update records your registry last week and then you change it what will show in the reg editor when you open it this week?
  23. The options for multiple passes will be greyed out because it's seeing the drive as an SSD and more than one pass could be damaging to the lifetime of the SDD. I can still select multiple passes here for my HDDs. Think of it a bit like washing clothes multiple times; a cotton shirt would be fine with that but a silk shirt would get damaged if you washed it too often. As Augeas says one pass is more than sufficent to wipe a drive anyway, SDD or HDD, multiple passes are just overkill and a waste of your time. (Like washing a shirt multiple times would be a wase of time). And the next question is usually 'So why does CCleaner have the option for multiple passes?" and the answer is that it's simply a legacy thing from the days of old drives when multiple passes may have been of benefit. (And because some people still want the option because they don't understand that multiple passes are unneccessary these days).
  24. Sorry I haven't got a clue why it should change like you describe, unless the admin account was showing an old registry entry and swiching accounts and then back refreshed it? That seems unlikely though. Just a thought, have you double checked to see if CCleaner Browser is still installed on the machine? What is now set as the default browser for the admin account? Second thought, it is a Chromium based browser and I know from experience that Google Chrome itself can be a pig to completely remove from a machine. As you say you have uninstalled CCleaner itself then it might be worth searching the registry to see if anything else 'CCleaner' is still hanging around in there.
  25. Not sure when it happened but it indicates that at sometime a user (using the admin account) installed CCleaner Browser and it was made the default browser, probably as part of the install process. They may have done it by mistake and quickly deleted/uninstalled the CCleaner Browser hoping that no one would notice rather than admitting the mistake and asking for help? They may even have aborted the install process, (or shut down in a panic), part way through but after it had modified those reg entries? Seting a browser as the default browser will change those reg entries. Changing/reseting the default browser in Windows settings should change the affected reg entries again. To answer your question from above - CCleaner Browser wouldn't show in the reg entries for another user account as that other account would have a different default browser. As an example my default browser is set to Firefox, and that is what those reg entries show: You may want to check other file associations on the affected machine(s), for the affected account(s). Depending on just when it was done PDF's in particular were known to get associated with 'preview' versions of CCleaner Browser during an install, so that when double clicked they opened in the browser. That no longer happens when installing the browser now, but if the install was done some time last year then it may have happened. https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/54685-update-no-more-pdf-file-association-changes/?tab=comments#comment-309014
