  1. Try putting that url into this online tool to see if it is redirecting on your computer. https://httpstatus.io/ I'm only seeing one redirect for that version-history webpage. If you are seeing more then I'd suspect the redirects may be coming from Adware or a browser hijacker, but you say that you are getting the same in more than one browser which seems odd. I would check this article out just in case: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-web-browser-redirect-virus There are step-by-step instructions in that bleepingcomputer post on how to remove browser hijackers (and other nasties). It's worth doing at least some of those even if you think your machine is clean. TBH all that is a pretty comprehensive virus check/clean-up routine and, although it's step 6 there, I would usually try running Malwarebytes ADWcleaner first if you are only looking at a redirect problem: https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner/ (And personally I'd probably skip steps 4 &5, at least to begin with).
  2. That's what the 'Announcements' section of the forum is for: See also the information here: https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/articles/360052107891-Why-have-I-been-updated-to-CCleaner-v5-74-
  3. CCleaner can only clean what is on your machine. If it could get onto websites/social media and clear data from there then what would be to stop malicious hackers from doing the same? Those places have protection to prevent that from happening.
  4. You will have to contact support@ccleaner.com so that they can verify that you do have a valid licence key that isn't working and issue a new one.
  5. You need to contact support to resolve licencing issues; it's not something that we can do on the open forum. (For security/privacy we can't see licence information here). You should email them at: support@ccleaner.com If possible send your request from the same email address that you used when registering CCleaner. (If that's not possible then noting that registered email address in your request, if you can, will make it easier for them to find your account). You should get an automatic acknowledgement by return email that your request has been received and is in a queue for action, if you can't see one then check your email spam folder.
  6. I've only seen two Defender (Security Intelligence) updates today, plus the Optional Quality Update for 20H2 (KB4580364) is still pending but that will not download/install unless you choose to click it. Windows 10 update is sometimes known to remove CCleaner, usually it's an old(er) CCleaner version which hasn't been updated in a while. Windows decides that the old CCleaner version is not compatible with the Windows update and so removes it. (It's not just CCleaner, it sometimes does it for other software old versions as well). As you have found, if that should happen then reinstalling the latest CCleaner version is the thing to do.
  7. Thanks for that info. So Drive Wiper does it anyway and you have no control over that. (A bit like the way you have no real control over what Health Check does). I have not really had occasion to use either method.
  8. There is no (selectable) wipe MFT free space option in the Drive Wiper tool, the options are 'Free Space Only' or 'Entire Drive'. The only wipe MFT free space setting is for a Custom Clean WFS, and I don't believe that the Drive Wiper tool reads that setting. There are a couple of other options in Custom Clean WFS that are not in the Drive Wiper tool. ('Wipe alternate data streams' and 'Wipe Cluster tips'). I personally think that is why the WFS option/settings is/are still there in Custom Clean at all, to give more control over wiping free space. There would be no need for it still to be there if the Drive Wiper tool had exactly the same settings available. Unfortunately the documentation is pretty poor and unclear on just what these different settings actually do. It is noticable that none of the other tools are 'duplicated' in Custom Clean. Why wiping free space should be, and have different options, would be a question for the developers. Possibly it's similar to the difference between Custom Clean and Health Check - If you want more control over what is done then you have to use Custom Clean.
  9. It's because that file information still resides in the Master File Table (MFT) of Windows, marked as a deleted file. (So recovery programmes can see where the file data was and see which clusters to try and recover). However if you have shredded or securely deleted the file then the disc clusters that it points to have been overwritten with random data, typically zeros and/or X's, so that there is no data left there to be recovered only random digits. I believe that 'Wipe MFT Free Space' from Custom Clean can remove the deleted entries from the MFT if that option is selected in Settings, - but to do that you also have to wipe all the free space on the disc which can take a while if it's a large disc. ('Wipe Free Space' is an option that you should not normally have selected). Note that is 'Wipe Free Space' in Custom Clean - 'Drive Wiper' in the tools will not wipe the MFT free space.
  10. @Floridian It seems that you are not the only one with this problem completely uninstaling Google drive. See here for a solution and the files and registry keys to delete (you'll have to do them manually): https://support.google.com/drive/thread/3660256?hl=en&msgid=17068941
  11. CCleaner is not meant to do that kind of task - and Chrome files can be hard to remove. Synced data in particular is hosted on Googles servers and protected from deletion by anything but Google. EDIT - See my next post.
  12. Windows defragmenter doesn't see MyCloud drives either. I think that you would have to connect it directly to a computer rather than the router. But there again aren't they Unix/Linux which shouldn't need defragging? https://www.howtogeek.com/115229/htg-explains-why-linux-doesnt-need-defragmenting/ Do Western Digital have a defragging app for them ?
  13. Yes it would be nice if CCleaner (and defraggler, and Speccy) could interrogate the disc to double check what type it is. But TBH you should be able to rely on Windows to do that for you and get it right. That's why Windows provides logs/databases in the OS - so you can easily query Windows without writing reams of code to check for yourself. Programmes would get bigger/slower if they all had to check everything for themselves.
  14. The thing is I have seen different parts/ tools of Windows report the same disc as different types. I've not been able to work out why, but I do suspect that it's something to do with the driver associated with the disc. I also suspect it may be differences in the old Control Panel and the newer Settings? If so it will continue to be an issue until the CP is eventually depricated.
  15. AFAIK CCleaner gets this info from somewhere in Windows, I don't know just where from. (I think it may be something to do with what disc driver is being used). So it that part of Windows thinks it's an SSD then CCleaner will also think it's an SSD. It's been an ongoing issue for a while, especially with Windows 10. It seems to be a Windows problem so there is little that CCleaner can do about it. However you should still be able to do a one pass wipe using Drive wiper even if it thinks that it is an SSD. And one pass is sufficient, any more is overkill. See this thread, where the originators HDD was also being seen as an SDD so he could only do a one pass wipe. Andavari's uninstall CCleaner, restart Windows, Reinstall CCleaner, may be worth a try to see if it can get the disc recognised correctly. https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/59412-ccleaner-drive-wipe-lets-me-only-do-1-pass/?tab=comments#comment-324449
  16. It didn't clean them before, it couldn't do and never has been able to. If you didn't see the warning then you were using Custom Clean and had turned the warning off at sometime in the past. (I turned it off years ago and never see it in Custom Clean unless I completely uninstall CCleaner and then do a new reinstall). Again though - You can't turn off that warning for Health Check, you can only turn it off for Custom Clean. Health Check will show you the 'Browser is open' warning everytime and has done so for as long as it's been around. (Even back when it was called Easy Clean). When that warning is turned off in Custom Clean then normally the only indication you see that CCleaner hasn't cleaned the open browser files is if you have it set to show the 'Advanced Report' where it will simply show browser entries for a running browser as 'Skipped'. (It does also show 'skipped' in 'File List' but it's harder to spot there). It's been like that for years.
  17. Unfortunately that's just how it is with computers, if files are open and in use then they cannot be cleaned/deleted.
  18. It sounds unusual. The first thought is whether your sisters computer is running Windows 'S' mode which only allows Microsoft apps. Second thought - there is a Windows setting that only allows downloads/installs from the Windows Store; the setting is found in Windows Settings>Apps & Features. Make sure that it isn't set to 'The Microsoft Store only'
  19. That comment was from 4 weeks ago when the issue first surfaced. Please read the dates on posts to check if they are still current before jumping in. To update you - Changes/improvements are being made to the whole licensing system for all Piriform products, we expect an official announcement soon. This changeover is causing an issue for a very small number of users. If you are affected by this then the support team will issue a new licence code when/where needed.
  20. Can you find the logfiles using File Explorer? (If you can remember which ones they were) Try searching for anything with a .log extension to see if it was created since you updated CC. PS. Microsoft have been remotely controlling the generation/collection of logs for years, even for computers with a local account and no MS account. Partly to know just what patches you need on Patch Tuesdays, (which Win7 no longer gets), but mainly for general data collection about how people are using Windows.
  21. I suspect that is because Windows 7 is now 'End of Life' and so is no longer being supported by Microsoft. They don't need to produce any logfiles because they don't need them anymore. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-7-support-ended-on-january-14-2020-b75d4580-2cc7-895a-2c9c-1466d9a53962
  22. If you are using Custom Clean (I believe you are from that message text) then in the box that pops up to ask if you want to close the browser there should be a tickbox for 'Do not show this message again'. Tick that box before you say NO and it should not come up again. But your browser will not be fully cleaned unless it is fully closed, CCleaner cannot fully clean an open browser or one that has background tasks running. Alternatively you could go to Options>Advanced and tick 'Hide warning messages' but that will turn off all warnings. If you are using Health Check the warning cannot be turned off. Which browser are we talking about here? Older CCleaner versions: Filehippo used to be the partner site for CCleaner downloads, but they are no longer partners and the last version they have is 5.68 (and previous versions). Piriform want you to use the latest CCleaner version because things change with Windows and other software so older CCleaner versions will not be as effective and may even do things that you don't want it to. For instance CCleaner used to be able to clean Windows Update files and 'Windows Old' files, but doing that with Windows 10 can be a disaster because Win10 still needs some of them for a month or so following an update, so CCleaner now leaves them alone. Chrome and Firefox are constantly changing where they store things, so older CCleaner versions may not clean them correctly or may even clean the wrong things. Etc., etc.
  23. @xCleanI also can't see what your post has to do with CCleaner - but I do recognise it as an attempt to help others. So please read the rest of this. I think that you misunderstand who a forum moderator is, and what moderating a forum entails. Forum moderators are users who have shown themselves to be knowledgeable and trustworthy, but there is more to it than that. You also have to know about spammers and their tactics; how to spot/ban them so that they don't annoy everyone else - it's pre-requiste for being invited to be a moderator. You cannot ask to be a moderator, you are invited - usually by existing knowledgeble and trustworthy moderators who have seen what you post and recognise your integrity. To go futher; this is a company forum and although we are not employees the moderators here are users who have a good knowledge and skills. I believe that we are valued for that by the company and they listen to us, even when we critisize and yell at them if something goes wrong. When we do yell they listen. So to get back to your comment: We don't know the ins and outs of every Piriform product. Some of us know a lot about some about some products and less about others. But we will try to help where we can, and if nobody else is piping up then we may make a suggestion. One thing we have in common - We all give up our time (for free) to help others where we can, and make suggestions where we are not sure but think it may help.
  24. That's it - the renewal nags should stop in time, but otherwise uninstall your curent CCleaner and reinstall the free version. You will still get the occasional nag to upgrade/purchase Pro.
  25. Don't know why it's taking so long for you. If the disc/files were badly fragmented to start with it could take a few long runs to get it all organised. The other main factors are how much free space there is on the disc (the more the better), how much RAM you have (the more...), how fast your CPU is (the faster ...), and if you or your computer is doing anything else at the same time. And of course how you personally use your computer and what for. As I say Defraggler tries to do the best of both defrag and consolidate so if you defrag once a week then things should get more organised over time and change the balance, and so get quicker to run. (Like I said above about my consolidation already being pretty good, so Defraggler spent more time on newly defragmented files).
