  1. That's because it's integrated into the system and other programs can and will use it without your knowledge. Some basic examples * Some antivirus software requires it to download updates. Subsequently block IE with a firewall software and such antivirus may fail to update. * Open a folder on your system and things get put into the History area. * Look at the help section in a program and it may need to load some javascript, and/or it may fetch images, etc., from the program website. The list goes on!
  2. I'll link an admin to your post because anti-malware will also detect things based upon their name possibly causing a false positive.
  3. Sometimes Windows will automatically throw up the error, however as detailed it can be ignored.
  4. Sometimes you get what you want! As of CCleaner v5.36.6278: Windows Defender is unchecked by default now, as seen in the change log here.
  5. First turn off Hidden Files and Folders here's how to do that. Then go looking about through the user profiles on your system in particular the AppData ("Application Data") folders since Chrome is known to install into a non-conventional location (at least it was in the past) compared to other Windows programs. If you find Google Chrome related files then it has been previously installed on your system, or could be currently installed.
  6. What operating system are you using? I only ask because OSes like Win10 automatically defragment on there own, so it isn't a manual process you have to worry about using other defrag software.
  7. First I wondered what, then I looked at your avatar and got it. I'm sure those sheep are getting a sheep's pay too, which is nothing.
  8. I think it's very long overdue that they allow both \ and |. It's been years ago when they stated they may add the ability to use \ still waiting forenever for it to appear!
  9. I wonder how that may clash with an installed resident av that could itself be running a scan at the same time. I also wonder if there will be a choice to enable / disable it. And too bad they didn't come up with their own antivirus/anti-malware engine on there own, although ESET is very good.
  10. That has already been suggested to them, however it's entirely up to them if they supply the hashes/checksums.
  11. I use HashTab (free, but has to be installed). Just wish something like it was included with Windows by default. Unfortunately some sites still list only the MD5, but it's better than nothing at all.
  12. Thing is the web browsers have changes that take place with CCleaner typically always playing catch up.
  13. Do you think this is a PlayStation forum? I'd suggest you send your PS3 in for repair since you're still at it. And since you want to go the abusive route this topic is now closed.
  14. Using only the portable versions of browsers and also not using Waterfox I've never had to input what you have at the end: \{profile folder name} Mine look like this, ends on \profile with nothing additional needed: CustomLocation1=FIREFOX|C:\PortableApps\FirefoxPortableESR\Data\profile CustomLocation2=CHROME|C:\PortableApps\IronPortable\Profile
  15. What CCleaner can disable can usually also be re-enabled using MSConfig via Start-Run. Note: This excludes web browser addons/extensions. If you disable something using CCleaner it will not magically re-enable it should you decide to uninstall CCleaner. Either remember to re-enable it, or use MSConfig to re-enable if CCleaner is no longer installed.
  16. Piriform knows about it! Conspiracy theories do not apply!
  17. Saw that in a daily tech video on YouTube. I haven't used it for about 17-18 of those twenty years.
  18. You'd think if it's getting too hot that the CPU would start throttling performance which should be noticeable.
  19. If it is an SSE2 incompatibility issue according to the topic I linked to here, using version 3 isn't necessary because supposedly CCleaner 5.26.5937 was the last version that worked with non-SSE2 compatible processors according to what users posted in their findings. CCleaner 5.26.5937 (Standard Installer) released 17 January 2017 can be downloaded at: http://filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/72800/
  20. He's asking if your Windows XP running Service Pack 3, here's how to find out: Right-click the My Computer icon on the desktop and select Properties. Underneath the "System" heading it will state what version and Service Pack you have installed. Another possibility is if your computer isn't SSE2 compatible, if it isn't you may need to use an older compatible version. Here's a previous topic discussing it: https://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=48024
  21. If you mean you have to login again to bill pay sites it's likely a cookie issue. See here for setting up your Cookies to Keep: http://www.piriform.com/docs/ccleaner/ccleaner-settings/choosing-which-cookies-to-keep
  22. Perhaps contact their support and be bold asking them some tough questions.
  23. The Windows Defender problem has had multiple posts over the years with people complaining about it being cleaned, yet it still remains enabled by default. Maybe not enough complaining about it, I don't know. To export the CCleaner .INI files try this (note that you will need to correct the path listed below to exactly where CCleaner is installed on your system), example via Start->Run: "C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCleaner.exe" /export Then you just open the folder where CCleaner is installed where you can open the .INI files with Notepad to view them.
