  1. They're only doing that in my opinion to try to avoid going to court, and to save face so people keep buying the newest iPhone. Only problem is what they've did by supposedly building something to become obsolete is illegal in some countries in particular France.
  2. On XP in particular setting a scheduled task yourself let alone some software installation attempting to set one will often fail -- even if your user account has Admin privileges.
  3. nukecad while I'd like to test it I can't because if the Avast install were to slip through I'd have to restore from a full system disk image because something in Avast is incompatible with the Aladdin/Sentinel License Manager ("HASP License Manager") a form of DRM I suppose for a software installed on my system and has been since 2007/2008 meaning my system will become unbootable in normal Windows mode if I install Avast -- it's literally the only antivirus I've tried that has that particular issue. The 3rd party installs getting through has been a known issue for years with in the CCleaner Standard installer build. I guess just be glad they're now acknowledging it, and looking into it as an actual issue to resolve. I however don't see allot of people attempting those instructions for the fact they may not want to risk an Avast install slipping through onto their system. Those instructions in my opinion would also require more diligence than what the baseline instructions imply -- I'd for one make a full system disk image beforehand to insure a 100% guaranteed way of fully getting rid of an unwanted installation, since even those antivirus uninstall utilities don't always remove 100% of the installation.
  4. With one detection I'd personally say it's a false positive after the efforts Avast/Piriform have put into securing the Piriform software such as CCleaner - that is if it were me attempting to update it -- but I won't ever again say with 100% confidence that it's alright after the September actual infection. With that in mind you can make up your mind on what you wish to do. I don't know if you're aware of this however you can also get the Portable ZIP Version which does not contain CCUpdate.exe, and you can use the Portable version to update your already installed version. To update an already installed version using the Portable version you only need to unzip the following files: 1. The two *.EXE files (CCleaner.exe and CCleaner64.exe) over the already installed ones on an English installation, and you're done updating. Tip: If your system is not 64-bit you won't need CCleaner64.exe. 2. Optional: If your language is English you do NOT need to follow this step! If your language is not English, and to have CCleaner display in your language you'll also need to also unzip the lang folder over the already installed ones, and you're done updating. Also a member stated a while back that CCUpdate.exe was a filename detected by an anti-virus or anti-malware (I'm thinking Malwarebytes but could be completely wrong), and even when something isn't actually infected it can be generically detected by filename only - Piriform were already made aware of that issue however haven't yet renamed the .EXE.
  5. New: Deals with ClamWin Portable failed updates for the virus database which are incomplete, can be large, and don't get automatically cleaned by ClamWin Portable itself. If anyone knows where the installed version of ClamWin stores this it could also be added into the winapp2.ini cleaner [ClamWin*]. Edit: If whoever adds this to winapp2.ini doesn't like the name perhaps change it to [ClamWin Portable*], I was undecided about the naming of it. [ClamWin Portable Failed Updates*] LangSecRef=3024 DetectFile=%SystemDrive%\PortableApps\ClamWinPortable\ClamWinPortable.exe Default=False FileKey1=%SystemDrive%\PortableApps\ClamWinPortable\Data\db\clamav*|*.*|REMOVESELF
  6. Avidemux can also be tried to re-mux ("re-save") the videos without having to re-encode them if you know what video codec/format it was to begin with -- if you don't you may be able to re-encode the video (note that re-encoding will degrade the quality since the source will be lossy). It's all trial and error, and you may have to end up trying and using multiple programs.
  7. It has one detection on VirusTotal, as seen here.
  8. Merry Christmas everyone. However, I personally can't wait for all the cheesy Christmas music to stop in two days time - I can't stand it!
  9. It has been known to in the past to falsely state there's an update, when in fact you're just re-installing the same version again, so it's worth verifying that it's actually a new version or not. Historically it only updates once-per-month, unless on an exceptionally rare occasion they need to release a bug-fix version in-between that time period.
  10. Piriform were made aware of it by the moderation team, and so far here's the official response: https://forum.piriform.com/topic/49301-problem-with-installer-bundle-offer/?do=findComment&comment=289762 I've moved this topic to the Bug section of the forum.
  11. Yes because monitoring wouldn't necessarily fit into a portable environment. However still good to know the cause if someone manually updates for whatever reason using the portable ZIP, i.e.; if the installer is failing to work.
  12. When you right-click the Recycle Bin instead choose to use CCleaner: Run CCleaner Note: It's just an alternate quick way of using CCleaner automatically. Also note that it will also clean everything else you have selected inside CCleaner's 'Cleaner' section, it is not limited to just the Recycle Bin alone when running CCleaner via the Recycle Bin right-click menu. Also see the CCleaner Documentation: https://www.piriform.com/docs/ccleaner/
  13. It means Anti-Virus software. Which could also include anti-malware nowadays.
  14. Perhaps also try a couple of other places, maybe they'll know. Official Mozilla Forums: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/about/forums Unofficial Mozilla Forums (unofficial and independent but really good): http://forums.mozillazine.org
  15. Configure Cookies to Keep and see if that helps.
  16. To figure out where exactly they're installed rather they're something from Firefox itself, or something Windows related type this into the Firefox address bar to launch the Install Plugins page: about:plugins
  17. There's a [Windows Installer Temps*] entry in there, I didn't find the one in the above quote. Based upon combining them, here's what I've did on my system. Added Detect1 and Filekey1. [Windows Installer Temps*] LangSecRef=3025 Detect1=HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Installer Detect2=HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer Default=False FileKey1=%SystemDrive%\Config.msi|*.*|REMOVESELF FileKey2=%WinDir%\Installer\MSI*.tmp-|*.*|REMOVESELF FileKey3=%WinDir%\Installer|*.tmp|RECURSE FileKey4=%WinDir%\Installer|SourceHash{*};wix{*}.SchedServiceConfig.rmi
  18. There was a delay before with the 3rd party Google offers, and supposedly they had to fix something in the installer if I'm remembering correctly. Although months (maybe it was years) after the fix some people still would get an unwanted Google software installation. It's the reason I've trained myself to not just click through any installer's anymore, I let them sit on screen up to 2 minutes even with trusted software because you can't even trust that. If it's some form of delay rather that be intentional or not I haven't a clue as Piriform has never answered any public forum question about that in particular to my knowledge. However it's gone on long enough in the past with unwanted Google installations (and people claiming they'll never use CCleaner again because of it), so it's up to people to make their own minds up on what's actually going on -- even if we're told otherwise.
  19. This is how I have it on my system, and the two detects are there because it's related to Windows Installer. [Config.msi Folder*] LangSecRef=3025 Detect1=HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Installer Detect2=HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer Default=False FileKey1=%SystemDrive%\Config.msi|*.*|REMOVESELF
  20. I've merged this topic with the other one from earlier that was asking the same question.
  21. Here's a working link to the original topic: https://forum.piriform.com/topic/30143-legitimate-reg-key-deletion-please-fix/ Edit: I've moved this topic to CCleaner's Bug Reporting forum section. Another moderator and myself have left a post about this with working URL links to this topic and the original 2010 topic -- that should catch the developers/bug fixers eyes.
  22. Perhaps an easier way to verify the hashes without the need to install any additional software is to use an online site such as Online MD5: http://onlinemd5.com/
  23. It may help the devs and bug fixers if you mention: * The CCleaner version you used. * The Firefox version.
  24. I used 7-Zip to unpack what was needed from the installer without having to install it, which was no more difficult than having the portable ZIP archive.
  25. It's the same thing ClamWin does with the daily virus database file! Update the db and there's hundreds or thousands of fragments, so many fragments that Windows Defrag can't defragment it when it's at something like 1500 fragments - so a 3rd party defrag tool must be used.
