  1. It's been known for several years now that the Windows Defender box should be unticked/disabled since it causes the issues you've explained. There is official documentation here: https://www.piriform.com/docs But it's more on the usage and doesn't tell you what each entry cleans. You can use /export after the main .EXE to export all of the cleaning .INI files that are embedded inside of CCleaner, example: CCleaner.exe /export It will then export the following .INI files inside the folder where CCleaner is installed (works with Portable version too): winapp.ini, winreg.ini, winsys.ini The only thing is some of the cleaning routines don't exactly spell out what they exactly do because they use some form of internal code using "SpecialKey" that's not know to us forum users and probably never will be since it is closed-source software, example: SpecialKey1=N_MOZ_CACHE Whereas things like DetectFile=, Detect=, FileKey1=, RegKey1=, ExcludeKey1=, etc., are shown in full detail so you know exactly how they're detecting and how they're cleaning in plain sight. If you've ever used or made any community-based winapp2.ini cleaning entries you'll likely understand these.
  2. Currently I couldn't "cut the cord" even though I use Dish Network which isn't cable TV. The major issue I have with streaming at 1080p HD (don't have a 4K TV yet, and I seriously doubt my DSL is fast enough for 4K) is some of the abysmal artifacts and just downright trash looking dark scenes due to the massive compression but to be fair even Dish Network can have that at times too. Although with streaming during the first few minutes of starting the stream it looks the absolute worst, that's why I'd prefer to have an insanely huge buffer but that's not a setting I've found using Amazon Prime (at least not on the PS3 and PS4, and not on their gizmo you can hook up to an HDTV). That and I find it just as difficult to find something worth watching on Amazon Prime, which has allot of "low rent" rubbish on it.
  3. Restarting itself sounds like Monitoring may be enabled. Here's some info on it if you wish to disable it: https://www.piriform.com/docs/ccleaner/ccleaner-settings/changing-monitoring-settings-ccleaner-free
  4. See this official post from the Admin for a better understanding: https://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=48869&page=13&do=findComment&comment=287118
  5. Whenever they've come out with new features over the years that aren't on by default I've never used them.
  6. Don't beat yourself up on what a defrag software does. Of course we the users would like to see our files all tightly packed together, however that's not necessarily the end result. The gaps that are left behind may be later filled however that's based upon the defrag software's own accord of what it will or won't do during a particular run. Although better filling of the gaps may be achievable after a system restart such as if Windows will move the MFT Reserved Space -- but don't always count upon it, and it isn't always necessarily worth the time involved and stress upon the hard disk(s).
  7. Sometimes the "holes" we'll see after a defrag software finishes can be files that can't be moved, files having a huge gap because of the MFT Reserve Zone being in the way.
  8. Perhaps try cleaning with the tool built into IE and/or Disk Cleanup in Windows, and then return to CCleaner and see if it detects anything different after that.
  9. See here: https://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=48869 And also make sure you're installing the newest version 5.35 available at: https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds
  10. The one word that comes to mind is: Safety While CCleaner's registry cleaner is seen by many as being less aggressive that doesn't however mean that it can't have a false positive and suggest removing registry data that can break something and the breakage may not be obvious for days, weeks, or months.
  11. See if the Corrupted Recycle Bin Fix solves the issue: https://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=42673
  12. Slim build is available here, just scroll down a little: https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds
  13. If you are unsure about what the Registry Cleaner is listing as "invalid" you don't have to clean the entry, better safe than sorry!
  14. Still going very well! Supposedly it's not compatible with Microsoft User Profile Hive Cleanup and offers to uninstall it during setup, I didn't allow the uninstall and so far I haven't had any issues... ...yet. So far it's the only antivirus (free or paid) that I've used in 10+ years that doesn't have glaringly obvious bugs right out of the gate which is exceptionally surprising.
  15. That's why last night I loaded up Slax OS (a free Linux distribution), I seriously wanted to scan with another OS outside of the Windows environment, and I scanned with BitDefender in Slax, still absolutely nothing was found. I think I've did more malware and antivirus scans than I'd normally do in a 6 month period over the last week.
  16. Skip UAC is an available option in the free version! I remember making sure it was enabled when I updated my mother's Win10 laptop to CCleaner Free v5.35,
  17. Corrupt Recycle Bin Fix: https://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=42673 I don't understand the Chrome issue that's in the title because there's no further information about it in your post.
  18. As of today I'm using Kaspersky Free Antivirus which comes with a 365 days license. Too early to tell if I'll keep it installed or not however it seems to be running good on WinXP.
  19. If you never installed the infected v5.33 you can simply delete it from your external drives. If you have a file shredding/secure delete software perhaps shred it so that it can never be recovered.
  20. The thing is they have to get permission before answering questions about it. Some stuff the moderation staff was asking about in a separate private area couldn't be answered either because they had to get permission first and all of that takes time. Frustrating yes, however we're all in the same boat and waiting for information that is hopefully not overly technical.
  21. I've made a note for the admins to see your post, so that it isn't overlooked.
  22. I suggested that on day one in a separate area, but supposedly they weren't going to do that.
  23. See if anything in here is helpful: https://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=5739 Note that usually just unzipping the Portable ZIP version over a pre-existing version should work. Just remember to delete the portable.dat file which is included with the Portable ZIP version before attempting to start CCleaner.
  24. VirusTotal is only flagging it with Eset/Nod because of Google Toolbar that is included with the Standard installer. The Slim installer and Portable ZIP build both come up clean.
