  1. You could also give Avidemux a try to either remux (if it's only missing the necessary header information), or attempt to re-encode the file.
  2. FYI: Avast owns Piriform the makers of CCleaner. Also an official response was posted here when a fix for it will be released: https://forum.piriform.com/topic/49301-problem-with-installer-bundle-offer/?do=findComment&comment=292018 I'll close this topic since an official response was made in the above provided link.
  3. You also do not need to defragment an SSD.
  4. uBlock Origin can also uses HOSTS files, they're located under: Multipurpose
  5. Does the current installed version(s) of Firefox install a service? I don't know if they do or don't but perhaps that's something to look into to rule out it remaining running in the background.
  6. If that keeps happening perhaps give Firefox Portable (or Firefox Portable ESR) a try. I've never had an issue with those remaining open, unless of course Firefox has some issue.
  7. It's usually only XP that commonly gets stuck in it. From what I've read over the years there can be reasons a more modern OS may cause a drive to get stuck in it "permanently" , i.e.; disk errors (seems unlikely but ChkDsk can work magic in some cases), damage, or the registry key for it is missing/corrupt, etc. Also worth mentioning is what Automatic Acoustic Management ("AAM") mode is the hard disk configured to be in Fast/Performance mode, or Quiet mode, that might be worth looking into - it's usually a BIOS setting that can be configured in Dell desktops and supposedly it makes a huge difference in drive speed.
  8. I know from the past using adblocking software that approximately 25% of what a browser tries to fetch is filtered with adblocking enabled.
  9. Thank you for the official clarification. In my case the update and installation process won't submit anything useful since I only use the portable build.
  10. First I'd run ChkDsk on that hard disk either with /f to quickly look for errors, or if you think the hard disk may possibly be damaged run it with the /r parameter. Next I'd find out if that hard disk is stuck in PIO Mode which you definitely don't want it to be in because it's dreadfully slow. Requires looking through the Device Manager to find out if it is or isn't. Here's a search for: hard disk in pio mode If it's stuck in PIO Mode there can be a variety of reasons, such as the hard disk could be failing, in Defraggler you can look at the Health tab for it to tell you if it's in good health or not.
  11. We had nothing to do with the signatures coming back, I think it surprised us like everyone else. The only thing with the signatures coming back is they have gaps in-between the lines of text (an eyesore in some instances), and also nobody has the ability to modify their own signature so there's no way to change/edit/delete them, or at least I've not been able to find any option to do so. Scratch that, now there's an option in Account Settings to change the signature - that wasn't there the other day, I think.
  12. Could also be that it cleaned too much in the browser "Local Extension Settings", which I've made a few posts about before and this more detailed one about needing to be put into an Exclude within CCleaner and other cleaning programs as cleaning anything inside of it it can cause issues, such as broken extensions or in my case it killed Comodo Dragon by damaging my profile in the browser - but my complaining about it has always fallen upon deaf ears and blind eyes.
  13. Could just be that CCleaner needs to be updated to work with a more newly released version of Firefox, it is after all always playing catch up with the main browsers be that Firefox or Chrome after changes are made within them.
  14. Yet some of us still didn't want it, and still don't!
  15. Possibly something in your Chrome profile/settings became corrupted.
  16. Sorry for posting the same link as I didn't even notice you had already posted it. Interestingly enough though we've both had the same conclusion, rather it's right or wrong who knows.
  17. I couldn't find that on the official Firefox Add-on's site however I did find a help page with instructions at http://www.internetdownloadmanager.com/support/firefox8_integration.html and according to it you may need to update IDM integration due to a Firefox update perhaps disabling it for compatibility reasons. The instructions on the page are very specific on what must be done, such as having to restart the computer after updating it.
  18. Perhaps error scan your hard disk and see if that allows it to properly defragment to completion.

With what's in the screenshot I agree because on Windows 10 it just re-downloads them in a short amount of time. "Maybe by unpinning certain things in the Windows Start Menu area will curb some of it" - but make sure you have a good system backup before messing around with the settings for an easy effortless way to undo any changes you may not like.
  20. I don't think you can draw the line or come to an end point, simply because things keep changing and adblocking software isn't what it used to be just 5-10 years ago because of the new subscriptions that can block malicious activity instead of just annoyances like an animated ad banner.
  21. Giving it a whirl in uBlock Origin and the Windows HOSTS file format since some of the URL's in it (only 27 of them) are blocked by filters I already had in uBlock Origin - I don't know how many were already blocked in my HOSTS file though.
  22. Thank you for the update info Hazelnut. I always wonder what they've declassified when the Hosts file decreases in size by almost 30kb.
  23. FYI: Probably because it used to be located at Piriform.com, however it's now on CCleaner.com.
  24. Panda Dome ("aka Panda Free Antivirus"), primarily because it runs light on this old WinXP system.
