Somehow I may have solved the problem but don't exactly how. I decided I was going to reinstall Chrome but before I did I went into Task Manager and looked at the listings for Chrome. I found a troubleshoot choice which I took. There was a menu of choices and I took the one that best described my problem and ran it. Later it said test the program when I did it ran. It' be really nice to know just what went on. Thanks for the help.

Yes. I believe I did. How do I recreate the shortcuts?

I ran CC after downloading the new version on my HP Laptop running win8. The shortcuts for Chrome no longer starts the program. If I sign in as a different user (my wife) it works fine. Any one know what's happening? How do I fix this?
