    Windows 8 info

Macs are solid OSs, apparently and most malware can't infect them but in terms of hardware and in terms of average to intermediate users, Windows XP was and still is very good and some people still refuse to give it up and its very understandable why. Literally, I have seen and have used PC's running Windows XP with 64MB RAM. Windows users would most likely, choose the new Windows OS when they upgrade because that is where they have familiarized themselves unless they are geeks, developers, programmers, pros or experimentalists. I have been to computers shops and they want this Windows 7, but did they ever mention Macs??? No. Its hard for Apple to catch up with Windows in terms of the market shares. But Apple has gone well with things like the iPhone so far. Its their first phone but the top cell phone manufacturers copied its touch screen feature that caught them by surprise. They all had their supposed "iPhone killers" but they failed to kill it in the end. MS phones are not as popular either. That is where Apple beats MS. Everything has its pros and cons but in contrary to you Anomaly, I still see Windows to have the upper hand simply because most programs being developed today are built for Windows and app publishers are getting money from it. So its like a win-win situation for both M$ and the commercial program developers. And a vast majority of users like me would prefer it over Macs though I also have a taste for Linux. Windows would now be releasing new OSs every few years because the rate in which technology grows is now in a faster rate, they are confident after the success of Windows 7 and maybe they want even more dominance over the market as soon as possible. But in terms of this Windows 8, lets just wait and see. We can never say if it sucks or if it rocks until we get our hands on some beta build soon.

I agree that it is bad to rush the release of a new OS because with a short period of time, you can't put as much good in it than waiting for 4 or 5 years of innovation that would really make it solid. But let us not forget that the rate by which technology evolves and develops is getting faster than the past. Even 5 years for me is not a guarantee. Windows XP was released on 2001 and 5 years later on late 2006 and early 2007, Vista was released and got so much criticism on its flaws. But Windows 7 was released less than 3 years later and now several of us are impressed by it so much and its doing well on the market share. We are still getting used to it that's why some of us refuse to see a new OS until the next 5 years or so. Well, let us just hope MS doesn't get too over confident from the success on Windows 7 and that they have learned their lesson. But personally, I want to get my hands on a beta build and answer my questions by myself.

That is so pro-Mac and anti-Windows. If Mac OS 10 is so good compared to Windows, why the heck did Windows XP make it to be the most commonly used OS is the world right now even if it was released just months after Mac OS 10??? I would think Windows still has the edge in terms of ease and versatility.

Well if Microsoft would praise Apple, that would only mean friendly competition. It doesn't matter who has the bigger market share. But Apple products like iPod, iPhone and tablet computers are more infamous than their MS counterparts. But even if we could not say this is true, I'm still impressed and I want it. Its really good that they are working on it now cause doing this early will help them minimize design flaws, especially with the aid of users and make Windows 8 ALMOST flawless.
  5. I wasn't that active in this forum for the last few days but if anything strange did happen to me, that would be the occasional times that I could not access this forum as I was having this "you do not have permission" blah blah blah thing that appears when I try to get here. But I wish we would have more active members in here to share ideas and things that will keep us awake and interested cause admit it, this forum is considerably small. And if there is anything strange in here, its easier for us to feel it.
  6. If I can make suggestions to Microsoft, how about a utility that they should embed on their future operating systems that could perhaps remove everything that wasn't there since Windows was installed and restore everything that might have been damaged or lost but offer to spare your files???? This should be more efficient than reformatting. I have this invalid Java entry still left in my Control Panel. I removed Java and all of its components and there is no directory left that I know of that this entry links to that I can safely delete. It just looks like a folder, not the Java logo anymore and an error box appears when I open it. The only way I can remove this is perhaps from the Registry but I don't know where to look. I did a lot of registry cleaning but that was of no help. I have also seen the Revo Pro, not sure if that was the latest but it wasn't as good as I hoped. It has a confusing user interface as it would open tabs when you open sections of it. The portable version I had on my USB was way better. Even Revo Pro did leave invalid folders and registry entries when it was removed. So to put it this way, I do vote for such a great utility program to be made.
  7. There is this website that offers you to download and install licensed programs for FREE in a period of 24 hours. You must download and install the program during this designated time or you will miss your chance, the giveaway of the day will end and you can't get the licensed program for free anymore. But they offer to have a new giveaway with a different program each day. But read the comments below the page as the publishers sometimes don't give all the features on the giveaway. Give Away of the Day
  8. Yes, I'd like the uninstalled programs to leave absolutely nothing behind when they are removed. But even the free Revo can't remove every single one of them. I hate the fact that they may leave DLLs, empty folders and files that are suspected to degrade performance. I think its a great idea and I like it but based on my assumptions, its highly unlikely that Piriform will make such a program especially if there are programs out there that can somehow do it and of course there is this concern for inexperienced users making mistakes and putting the blame on Piriform.
  9. Its simple. From my understanding, the idea for the company logo, its like a form that resembles a pear so in this case its like a "peary-form" and just shorten that to Piriform. But whatever it is, we just like to use their products that's why we are here.
  10. Open regedit from Run on the Start menu. Right click HKlocalMachine or HKCurrentUser and choose find, type Opera and check only Keys and click Find next. You repeat finding the same thing with Values or Data only checked on the finding options. This should be a step in finding undeleted Opera registry entries that are making it appear in CCleaner's module.
  11. Mate, I support the scheduling idea and I have long been wanting it too
  12. I don't think its a useless idea at all. If you are an inexperienced user, you probably don't even know how to use the bloody Task Scheduler and if you accidentally mess anything in the Task Scheduler, that would be more trouble. And its so much more easier to set up the schedule on CCleaner's own user interface. I understand that you long time members here all know how to use the Task Scheduler, but its too rude for you to say that its a "pointless idea". How could it be pointless that it was suggested many many times by several users who see its point of significance??? If you don't want the schedule to pop up a dialog box and say "perform cleaning now" of course there should be an option to just disable the scheduling or at least disable the pop up dialog box when there is a scheduled cleaning. The only schedulable option you can set on CCleaner by its own user interface is to make it run cleaning when the computer starts, not really convenient if I don't want it to run everytime at that point.
  13. Could it be a faulty graphics card??? If you have your monitor plugged into a video card, try plugging the monitor to the standard built in graphics adapter. I am also experiencing problems comparable to yours. I had mine plugged into a 2 year old Nvidia video card. Sometimes when I boot my PC, my monitor would stay in standby mode with an orange light, instead of green when its turning on normally. I can hear the Windows log on sound but the monitor stays in standby, so I had to plug to it the default adapter and it would turn on and I can see the display, then reboot the PC and plug it back to the video card. In your case, you may have a faulty cable, faulty graphics adapter/video card, or faulty monitor. I couldn't say if it is a problem with outdated video drivers too though....
  14. I think what Whopp!e was talking about were anti-virus products. I think what those programs do whilst updating is update their malware databases for example but perhaps not the actual build version of the program.
  15. Wow.. you have become a patron of Macrium, Andavari.... you are the leading guy who patronizes it here, come on there are other recovery tools out there. And hey, guys, before trying any one of these "giveaway" apps, make a restore point or make sure you have backup copies of your important files somewhere where they can be re-obtained.
  16. I agree with the auto-update feature and this is not the first time that was suggested, however in my understanding of how programs are updated, the previous version always gets uninstalled first before the newer version is installed either the setup automatically does that for you or you have to uninstall the older version manually before installing the new one. I haven't seen a program that makes an update to within the program without first uninstalling the older version. I just do not see how patch updates would affect the program especially if there in a change in the user interface for example.
  17. You have a fascination of setting up a lot of these entertainment stuff whilst keeping yourself wired and I guess you have spent a lot of money and you just avoid things that your wife would hate such as not putting a PC on the lounge and not cleaning the CPU on top of the couch or a table. You are 63 or 64 years young , if I am not wrong but you like gadgets. However, do you have a storage where all your shared media files are stored??? A common storage that all your networked TV's and PC's can access the media files from??? I have more than enough budget for this Western Digital WD TV Live HD Media Player, you are saying as it would cost $104.99 but I'd rather spend the money on other hardware like a larger hard disk or Windows 8 like what I said earlier. I use a Western Digital hard drive though.
  18. I can't really spend that much like you lol so I use the default Windows Media Center on Windows 7 cause I use a TV tuner and so far its simple but not bad. I can also listen to local FM radio in Windows Media Center cause my tuner includes an antenna. I can also record TV in it but I wish, I could get a free service online that would bring more TV shows on my Windows Media Center but I don't know if any free service supports my country. Windows Media Player allows me to stream for online radio stations too. I prefer using default programs lol...
  19. This has got to be one of those banking scams from Africa. If it includes a phone number, you call the number, then a man in a weird accent speaks, this has got to be from Africa. I have met a guy who says he was about to be scammed by some African man who had a weird accent by the phone. They often had excuses of their bank is about to be bankrupt or they wanted to make partnerships and that sort of thing but this is a very common form of scam yet people still do get victimized by these nowadays.

Cats, dogs may have higher rabies when they bite you lol. I love cats because they look cute and cuddly, its almost like if you wanna bite them lol
  21. Windows Live Skydrive is what I use and it has saved me a few times. If you have a Windows Live account, you can use that to log in there. It has 25GB FREE online storage.
  22. The guy who uploaded it says that it downloads the installers from the manufacturer's website.
  23. I have not read so many reviews about it, like I said, I just learned about it today. I thought it has these fancy features that Macrium does not have (obviously Macrium can do things it cannot) but either way, I can't try it since I do not have an external HD. Keep us posted then. This may seem interesting to many of us.
  24. Security Software Downloader I think this may be a useful tool. What it does is that it can download the installer/setup files of your favorite free antivirus, trial antivirus, anti-malware, firewalls and other tools for you. But it can also download CCleaner so whether, this tool is legitimate, I don't know. What do you think?? Here is a video made for it:
  25. We can not be sure if Macrium is more effective when it comes to the disk imaging features because my assumption is, that you have not yet tried to use this new program and neither did I. I am unsure if this program has any more features that were not shown in the quick video. So when it comes to effectiveness versus Macrium, none of us here in this forum can be sure unless one of us gives it a try. Macrium is far more popular in my view so I think more people would prefer it cause it doesn't need a CD but its such as waste to ignore the features this Redo program has. And remember that since its Linux based, its probably more convenient if you rely on Linux platforms.
