  1. Try system restore like what is on my signature.
  2. I just don't find that suitable for inexperienced users as curiosity with that might cause harm to them if ever they mess up with the drivers using CCleaner.
  3. Hellbovine. There are thousands of other FREE programs in the Internet right now that can assist you more in your desires than CCleaner. As a partial summary of what the others above have stated, adding these new features you want would make CCleaner too complex to be used safely by other users especially the inexperienced pack. Even if these features would be unchecked by default, there is nothing that can completely satisfy the curiosity of other users, make it the inexperienced users to use these advanced features and soon they end up damaging their systems and would soon put the blame on CCleaner for this especially that CCleaner is probably the most widely used maintenance software around the world. Even with the current features that CCleaner has, there has been reports of hazards and errors especially on the registry cleaner feature. Think about the wipe free space option, many inexperienced users would probably have that checked whilst they clean without knowing that it can damage their system if that is always used simply because some of them are curious if that can optimize their PC's to the max. Imagine putting more advanced features, you can expect more users to make mistakes. I think you can try other programs like Tuneup Utilities or Advanced SystemCare 3.5.1 which has the ability to backup drivers and make many other sorts of tuning operations.
  4. Well CCleaner Portable v.2.27 was doing that bug in Windows XP but it did not really hinder its cleaning ability. CCleaner is named New folder on its own title bar, I think. And Open Office Portable was going buggy and prone to crashes on Windows 7 whilst it was saved on an alternate disk partition rather than a USB. It also left behind some registry keys after I removed it which was probably generated by Windows anyway as I have set Open Office Portable to be the default program to open .doc files from the Control Panel.
  5. Windows 7 has its own module of removing invalid shortcuts. Just go to the Control Panel > change the view to Large Icons > go to Troubleshooting > Look for System and Security and just below it, you can see Run Maintenance tasks. Click at Run maintenance tasks and just follow the simple steps.
  6. Try doing system restore if the problem should appear again even if this Zemani Antikeylogger has already been uninstalled.
  7. Well, a friend of mine has his CCleaner portable v.2.27 open whilst he has other windows and programs opened and sometimes the title of CCleaner on the taskbar would now be "New folder" which was an obvious bug. I tried Open Office Portable as well which I decided to install to a folder in my alternate disk partition and it was quite prone to crashes and sometimes takes too long to launch even if I ran it in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP3. I don't know if it would do any better if it was saved into a USB since it was meant to be portable anyway. I actually admire portable applications cause they would at least leave no or less orphaned registry entries when removed. One example of how versatile CCleaner portable v.2.27 turned out to be was that when my friend was able to launch and use it even if the USB containing it was plugged to another computer and was just a shared drive in that network consisting of about 10 separate PCs.
  8. I agree that it should have the ability to delete junk files from other users as well but this should be unchecked by default as the files, even junk files in other users are within those other users' consent. I also agree that maybe CCleaner should go deeper into removing junk files and folders left over by removed applications that are just consuming space. But looking at the name of CCleaner, backing up drivers, folders and files does not fit its name and goal of creation. And even an ability to "tweak" the computer by disabling services unneeded for gaming does not fit CCleaner's function. A regular program has to be installed so it creates its own program folder and registry keys in the computer where it is installed, but this is not the case with "portable" applications. Portable applications don't need to be installed cause they are designed to be saved on a removable media such as a USB that you can carry to other computers without installing them there. Portable applications, on many occasions don't need their own registry keys to run too. The functionality of portable apps from regular apps that are installed are almost similar though I suspect that portable applications are more prone to bugs and crashes.
  9. The truth is that when I installed CCleaner portable on my USB, I deleted all the other extracted files including the langs, license and portable.dat, except the application launcher which is the CCleaner icon but is not a shortcut and still I was able to launch CCleaner portable from my USB. I did the same thing on a friend's USB and even without those langs, license and portable.dat, CCleaner portable always opens from that USB and mine. I think you can install and use both CCleaner portable and Defraggler portable on a CD or USB even if you delete all those other extracted files namely those langs, license and portable.dat and those portable programs should still work. So, I guess you do not need to worry about combining the folder contents of CCleaner Portable and Defraggler Portable if you can simply delete those folder contents.
  10. Options > Include and look for the folders containing the log lists of the applications that you want to be added on the cleaning.

    April Desktops

Still plain. I don't have those cool themes and gadgets though but here is what I made for pear lovers.
  12. Well you can still try CCleaner on Windows 2000 Server. But maybe, you have to use the older CCleaner versions. Or you can try the PORTABLE build that you can actually install to a USB from this link. http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds
  13. Look, system restore can restore your system to an earlier state but that would mean some of your programs will have to be reinstalled. Other than the complete system restore, Windows 7 has the ability to restore only individual folders and individual files to an earlier state called previous versions. Just right click a folder and choose "restore previous versions", that would restore the folder to an earlier state than the whole system. What you can do is hopefully find the folder in the computer containing the Task Scheduler. But I don't know where it is. Here is a screenshot on a help page on Windows 7 about previous versions. http://i399.photobucket.com/albums/pp80/Bi...ng?t=1271149506 What you can hopefully do is go to C:\Windows and look for the folder called Tasks, it should contain your scheduled tasks. Right click it, and choose Restore Previous Versions and choose a restore point from where to restore the folder from. This will restore that folder only but not the whole system. If this does not work, then this has to be a damage in the registry. Have you ever used another Registry cleaner other than CCleaner??? If that program automatically makes backups, try restoring those backups. If that does not work, try the full system restore. For more support, register to this website: http://www.sevenforums.com/
  14. If you are inexperienced with the Registry Cleaner function of CCleaner, please do not use the registry cleaner. The best solution, I assume for you is that you try doing system restore to a time before you ran and used CCleaner since in Windows 7, the automatic creation of restore points are on by default. Start> All Programs >Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
  15. I agree with the suggestion but think it should not be checked by default and should have a prompt when you check it for cleaning. In the meantime, you can try this technique to hopefully clean a few things regarding other users. The common disk cleanup method that is done by the computer's own disk cleanup module (namely cleanmgr.exe ) is simply not enough but Windows has a secret but advanced disk cleanup module that not so many has ever heard of. To use this technique, open an elevated command prompt, paste this text: %SystemRoot%\System32\Cmd.exe /c Cleanmgr /sageset:65535 & Cleanmgr /sagerun:65535 and hit ENTER. Just scroll and you will see many rather odd categories, some regarding other users' directories it can clean. This is from Windows 7, not sure about XP and Vista.
  16. Bored of the same old blue theme in Windows Media Center???? Check out mine in this screenshot. http://i399.photobucket.com/albums/pp80/Bi...ng?t=1271162398 For instructions, please watch: For the setup plus more instructions and info. http://www.hack7mc.com/2009/02/download-theme-homeworld.html Its awesome. It generally "feels" smoother to navigate than the default boring blue theme and it also feels to be faster in populating picture, music and media lists.

There is a good chance that when you run disk cleanup with Windows' own disk cleaning module, you deleted the Windows.old folder which should contain files from a previous Windows installation. We are his/her friends too, ident.
  18. To further support my sentiment above, here is a screenshot of a Help page in Windows 7 about Previous Versions. I have learned that it not only restores individual folders but also individual files. http://i399.photobucket.com/albums/pp80/Bi...ng?t=1271149506
  19. Well I guess they have to re-write their sentiments. I made another test. This time, I deleted all six pictures from the folder named Environment, emptied the Recycle Bin. Then I did the single folder restore operation again and all six pictures was restored. Here is a screenshot to show it. http://i399.photobucket.com/albums/pp80/Bi...ng?t=1271149051
  20. Good news. I deleted the picture from the folder named Environment, it was of course sent to the Recycle Bin. I emptied the Recycle Bin. Right clicked the folder named Environment and chose Restore Previous versions, chose a restore point, clicked Restore and the picture file was brought back to life inside the folder in less that a second!!!
  21. Well I have run System Restore on Windows 7 quite a few times and it was able to revert 2 of my programs to older versions that were there when the restore point was created but I have never tried the single folder restore. I will try to delete a picture in a folder containing but a few pictures and use the single folder restore process to see what goes on. This will be made as a test. Will keep you updated.

I assume that your hard drive has Gigabytes worth of junk files in it that need to be cleaned. 1. First of all, just install CCleaner. Open CCleaner. Check everything in there about the cleaning options EXCEPT Start Menu Shortcuts, Desktop Shortcuts and Wipe Free Space. Then click the Analyze button and you can hopefully calculate how much space can be cleared but since you have a lot of junk files, I assume in that huge hard drive, this may take a long time. If you don't want to Analyze it, you can simply hit the Run Cleaner button. This may take a long time cause of your large hard drive but will notify you in the end of how much space has been cleared. 2. If you wanna remove unneeded programs, go to Tools, you can see the Uninstall button highlighted by default and you can see a list of the programs in your computer. Simply choose the programs you want to remove from the list and click the Run Uninstaller button. Its as simple as that. When it comes to the Registry Cleaner, I recommend you not to touch anything there at this point. And about other files such as Word documents you no longer use, you have to delete them manually. Windows has an own module of disk cleanup. Go to Computer, right click your hard drive, choose Properties and then Disk Cleanup but this method usually takes a lot more time than CCleaner. Here is a simple demo of how to use CCleaner.
  23. I don't understand... Why not just leave the Cookies section in Firefox unchecked???
  24. Recuva or Undelete (which I have never used) won't work anyway if the files have been overwritten. If a system restore point was just made recently, it will probably not restore as much older files. Windows 7 has by far a better restore system. You can restore individual folders rather than the entire system so you have the option to restore only the folder where this important data that was deleted was being kept. Perhaps if he is using Windows 7, he has a much better chance of recovering them. Recuva does have an option to deepen the scan of course but its unknown if the deleted data is still not fully overwritten or is still in good shape but he should try it though. Anyway, I have doubts about that since he is probably using that computer everyday, browsing the Internet and making new files, so there is a good chance that the lost files are being overwritten on the process and are being more unrecoverable by Recuva or this Undelete.

    Spring

What is surely in the headlines of the news today is the tragic fate of the Polish president and much of their intellectual elite. It was too foggy on Russia like if its not exactly spring.
