  1. I don't think this the work of some spyware or virus. Then this is definitely a bug. Why not uninstall CCleaner then reinstall it again??? Or you can try an earlier version such as v.2.26 and 2.27. They won't have much difference from v.2.28 anyway. If this is the case, I am beginning to suspect that the latest versions of CCleaner do have bugs with Windows XP even though they have been especially built for compatibility to Windows 7.
  2. If you can't see any restore points if you use Window's own module of selecting restore points, why not create a new one??? Otherwise if your system is OK at the moment, there is little point of doing a system restore so you can create a new one today instead It is possible to manually create one. I have already experienced system restore points disappearing in CCleaner and that is because there are NO more restore points available because Windows have automatically deleted them since the space allocated for restore points have now been filled.
  3. I always have Windows Media Player checked in CCleaner but apparently, when I open Windows Media Player, then go to Options, then Privacy, I always have the buttons called Clear History and Clear Caches clickable so there is data that can be cleared although I never store history of frequently played songs, videos and stuff and this is just right after I made some cleaning with CCleaner. That has been puzzling me for some time. I have a feeling that CCleaner has more bugs and issues in the 64 bit version that the 32 bit version. Although I cannot make a clear conclusion about this, the 64 bit users seem to have slightly more issues in my calculations.
  4. Of course it is. I use Windows 7 and it has given me no problems.
  5. Actually, I believe Windows has the ability to delete older restore points if the space allocated for them is filled up completely. You can try an earlier version of CCleaner and not use the Wipe Free Space function if it is faulty in v.2.28 for Windows XP.
  6. I was asking you whether you have made backups of the registry fixes you made. If you made backups, try restoring them please and restart the computer for it to take effect. You can also do system restore. It could also be the work of a virus so make a full virus scan. Those are the last resorts I can think of before you would end up using the Windows Installation disk or some system image backups.
  7. Try setting them to "Automatic" and restart the computer so it takes effect.
  8. Whew.... I thought for a second you were becoming my fan he he..... Its just an avatar. If you want, I can change it though even if it is working normally for you now.
  9. Have you made backups of the registry fixes you made if any??? Try restoring them if you could. If something went wrong with your system, do a system restore. This could also be a problem if one or more of the Windows services are not enabled. Go to the Start Menu and go to Run, type services.msc and press ENTER. I have a slight feeling that it has something to do with the service called Virtual Disk. Make sure that is enabled.
  10. I have read a similar complaint but I think that was either on Windows Vista or Windows 7. I think you have to enable a few Windows services to make the restore points appear. If they are disbled, the restore points will not appear or work. Go to Run in the Start Menu and type services.msc. Make sure that all the services there, related to restore points are enabled. In my knowledge these would be the services called Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider and Volume Shadow Copy. Not sure if you have those in Windows XP though but good to have a look. They should be enabled.
  11. I am using Eusing Registry cleaner and I also use CCleaner. Eusing does detect more, although some are not actually safe to fix. CCleaner isn't the best registry cleaner and other registry cleaners especially paid ones will detect more issues. This .apv file extension could be from an app you uninstalled but CCleaner just can't detect all of them.
  12. I'll be on the percussion.
  13. Who were the modern gremlins???
  14. Well you can suggest that it creates a log file that opens with Notepad after you clean. This log file can then be saved so you can record results that you can actually show here in case something about CCleaner gets odd or unusual.
  15. Hey, I know that the forum server went down and none of us can get here. Anyone know what caused it???
  16. Well according to the last CCleaner update, version 2.28 has improved MUI cache cleaning, I think. That should explain why it can detect more issues than the earlier version. I think you should look at this. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=26494 Clearly, he needs more specific info.
  17. I personally don't think its necessary since the creation of log files would again result into more junk files.

    Registy

And if any issues keep reappearing, look at this topic. If some Registry issues keep reappearing.... You can also add them to the ignore list. Options>Exclude>Add Registry.
  19. I knew that the task manager has this ability that the title bar and the frame would disappear but I only tried it when the task manager is showing these graphs on memory usage, network and CPU usage. Double clicking these graphs would make them fill the entire task manager screen but I did not expect the same thing would work on the process monitor and other sections of the task manager. LOL just because I mentioned Macs, some of you started talking about Macs and Mac fanboys.
  20. Hey, what did you use to make the Mac like interface???
  21. Cool, too bad they don't show the history of the aliens that are on other planets.
  22. The danger of this is that inexperienced users might delete important restore points that are not the latest one. In my opinion, its better if you can choose specifically which restore point must be removed such as those that were created in system events with less significance.
  23. I think you got a fake version of CCleaner. Look at this topic here. It seems relevant to the situation you got yourself into. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=26732
