  1. Well Windows XP's support will end quite soon just as support for Windows2000 will on July. Windows 7, given the right hardware is much better than Vista and Windows XP because of newer features not available in those earlier OSs. XP is old but not useless but things have to move on and so does technology.
  2. I have encountered a similar problem before, when I was still using Vista and the Recent Items folder is not working after I used a registry cleaner but I was able to fix it by deleting a registry key but if you don't know how to edit the registry, you should not try this first but learn how to do the steps which should be easy to learn. I just don't remember the entire process. I think, you may have to delete a registry entry. Look at the replies on this link. Although, you are suing Windows 7, it should have almost similar steps as Vista. http://www.vistax64.com/vista-file-managem...t-updating.html Be smart to look for solutions at Google like what I did. http://www.google.com.ph/search?hl=tl&...mp;aql=&oq= Also try doing this Start-->Run--> type shell:recent then press ENTER
  3. 32 bit seems enough. 64 bit has more system requirements for me. I want an operating system with self healing properties.
  4. In response to Windows2000 support ends on July thread , I would like to know if you people have found any info about Windows 8 which could be released on 2012 although we can't really be sure if that is how they will name it. What do you think is it gonna be like??? What were the specs and rumors have you heard of it based from your personal account??? And what do you expect, what do you want from this future operating system.
  5. This could be the work of a virus or a damaged registry entry. Consider doing a virus scan or doing system restore.
  6. Has anyone seen problems like this on non NVIDIA drivers???
  7. Microsoft, I think has extended the support for Windows XP cause the support for it was about to end. Its still a good OS and its the most commonly used Microsoft OS that I have seen today and far more dominant than Vista but as hardware gets more advanced, Windows 7 might take over Windows XP's spotlight. The reason I have seen from Microsoft why they would end support on older operating systems is that they said this statement on their website, ".....but technology doesn't stand still and neither can we".
  8. Of course, CCleaner's cleaning function will in deed be slower if you use secure deletion types. Have you tried ticking it back to normal file deletions??? Maybe that will make the cleaning go back to normal speed. It is stated there that secure deletions even the 1-pass type will be slower than normal file deletion. And please, having the wipe free space option ticked will in deed make the cleaning take a lot more time. Having the Wipe Free Space and Wipe MFT space checked are not really advisable to be done on every cleaning operation as the those options should be done with caution cause they can shorten the life of your hard drive.
  9. I have seen this yesterday. Its now the Mexican tycoon, Slim Helu but even if he is now the richest man in the world, according to the source I read yesterday, he only has a $0.5 billion gap with Bill Gates who now comes second. $500,000,000 may sound so much for us but for these world leading billionaires, they could catch up with each other in a few months so who knows??? Maybe Bill Gates will again be the richest in a few months time, then maybe Helu again next year. But even so, Helu can't match up Bill Gates' popularity and I guess many people who have not yet seen this new update on the richest man in the world, will still say that Bill Gates is the richest. In fact, it was Bill Gates who has his name on the word, Billionaire lol...
  10. I agree with Andavari on this one. Just because Windows 2000 is no longer supported on July, does not mean it will be useless. When it comes to basic things like Internet browsing, simple word processing and so many countless things you can do with a computer on older programs, it will still be useful. Older operating systems like Windows 2000 in fact, have less system requirements and far more compatible with older hardware that can't handle Microsoft's new gem, Windows 7. And, I have actually seen quite some people on Yahoo! Answers talking asking about Windows 98 which is even older pointing out that older operating systems still play some significance.
  11. Well I can only remember downloading those index.php files from this forum when I tried to navigate. I think, that whenever I clicked at any link in this forum at that particular time, there would be this prompt wanting me to download the index.php files which I did for maybe 2 times but the 2 index.php files, I think had different file sizes but I deleted them both anyway. What I do not understand is what the heck do they have in connection to Firefox's image saving module which in my experience at that time had a bug after I downloaded and deleted those index.php files. I do not remember having come across anything like that from any other site besides this forum.
  12. I always use Firefox v.3.5.7 in navigating the Internet and that includes this forum. Maybe a couple of days ago here in the Piriform forums, I don't know if anyone has noticed this but when I try to navigate at the forums using the Piriform Community forums link or any other forum link there at the side (Piriform Community Forums> Computer Help and Discussion>The Lounge for example) there are these files called index.php that I need to download and when I did, I deleted them anyway cause I don't know what they were. But I did not notice anything peculiar immediately. Then later that day, I was searching for images at Google and then I have to click the images so they are shown on their full size, I had to right click them of course and click Save Image As. But after I click Save Image As, Firefox would want to save the image as URL not the standard JPEG or PNG formats for images and I can't seem to save it on another format besides URL. To save the images, I need to paste them at Paint first, then save but of course this is more of a hassle. Later that day, I ran CCleaner's registry cleaner and I found this .php thing as an invalid extension and when I fixed it, then opened Firefox to try and save the images again, the image saving module was back to normal and the images can now be saved in standard JPEG and PNG formats. Has anyone experienced this weird phenomenon???
  13. Try deleting the shortcut and recreate it. Delete the CCleaner desktop shortcut and look for CCleaner on the Start menu and once you see its launcher in the Start Menu, right click it and click Send to and click Desktop, that should create a new desktop shortcut of CCleaner. If that does not work, try uninstalling CCleaner, then install it again and make sure that during the installation process, the "Create Desktop shortcut" option must be checked. What I suspect might have happened is that, you decided to install the latest version of CCleaner and during the installation process, you might have the "Create Desktop Shortcut" option unchecked making the old shortcut basically invalid but I'm not really sure of this scenario because you only said that nothing happens when you click the desktop shortcut and how exactly this does not do anything is unknown to me. So maybe a little more detail please.

    Freeware!

Google Sketchup. Its a free program for 3-D modeling of houses and building and stuff but does not have it all.
  15. The solution I can see for this is that you need to get a new printer driver, not the one that came with the printer's CD but a newer driver version that comes from the manufacturer's website. Try going to the device manager on the control panel, turn on your printer, make sure it is plugged properly and tightly into your CPU and right click your printer from the device manager and choose update drivers and from there you can follow the step by step procedures. Or you can simply download a new compatible driver from the HP website, manually. You can also try cleaning the insides of your CPU, your printer and your printer port. Dust can also result to hardware problems.
  16. Well he could at least try. I suspect that his taskbar is not locked and is dragged slightly wider, showing the notification icons that won't show when there is little space when the taskbar is locked. The font size of his clock may also be too big like what you suspect. However, disabling startup programs will at least lessen the tray icons shown and that might eliminate the second row and even lessen RAM and CPU usage. But he did say that he already fixed it lol and he must have posted that seconds before I can post my last reply.
  17. There are quite a number of options you can do to resolve it but since your PC did not get slower immediately after you ran CCleaner, I assume, the problem is not there. Try doing another registry scan with CCleaner. There is a chance that there is a failing program that is causing registry bugs in your system, making it slow. You can also try using check disk. Go to My Computer> right click your C: drive or the primary partition> choose Properties> Tools > Error Checking option, click Check Now> uncheck the automatically fix system errors since you are currently using the primary partition> check the scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors> close all your running programs and start the scan which should take some time, depending on the size of your hard drive. Or if these measures fail, try doing a system restore, otherwise if this fails as well, you may have to look or scan for a virus or reformat the system on occasion.
  18. Take this into consideration, just because a driver is newer than your current driver, that doesn't mean that the newer one is always better. I have seen a more advanced video driver, with features that my video adapter doesn't even support and when I installed it, my game would have minor but noticeable lags that don't even happen to my old driver when I play the same game on the same computer.
  19. Well try right clicking an empty spot at the tray notification panel and choose Customize Notification Icons and from there, you can choose to hide tray icons. These tray icons are actually programs that automatically start when you turn on the computer so you can simply use CCleaner's module for disabling start up items that you don't need. Since you installed a new graphics card, new startup items related to your video driver have recently been created or installed and are set to launch at startup by default. So you have the option to disable them if you want, just don't disable the anti-virus though.
  20. Did you make any backups of the registry fixes you made with CCleaner??? You can try doing system restore just from a restore point that was made before you had installed and run CCleaner. After you did a system restore, restart your PC for this to take effect. Then turn it on and try installing the updates again. Or, you can also try installing the updates from the Windows Update website.
  21. There is no or little reason to install a new driver if your current video driver works fine. Installing new drivers consumes more disk space too.
  22. I keep installing Silverlight when I was still using Windows XP and it somehow always fails to install and if it did got installed somehow, it doesn't take effect on the browser to play those videos and content that demanded it. Silverlight also seems to be an optional update from Windows Update. I don't think there is much use for it at all.
  23. And maybe, you can try cleaning the printer port and plug it again. The dirt can also make hardware fail at times.
  24. Try typing services.msc on Run, press ENTER and look for the service called "Print Spooler" and make sure it is set to "Automatic". If not, right click it and choose Properties and then set the Startup type to "Automatic", then click OK, restart the computer for this to take effect. Its also good to restore a few registry backups if you have made any, its not a guarantee to work but worth enough to try. Or, if you had a system restore point that was created before you installed and had run CCleaner, try restoring the system with that. And you did say that this has happened to your work computer so chances are, there may be other people in there that have used it and have made some sort of mistake that has driven these discrepancies with your printer.
  25. Well maybe you can search the C: drive for this "Dell Dock" and maybe go to the Start Menu and look for the folder called Startup and add this "Dell Dock" there. Its better if you had a backup of the registry but if that backup has been made manually, it will probably not restore all registry data but better if you try. If that doesn't work and assuming that you have not made any registry backups, System Restore seems to be your hope.
