    Ubuntu

No, I don't use a virtual machine. I burned the Ubuntu ISO on a CD and tried to dual boot it with Windows 7. I also made a bootable USB where Ubuntu can be booted and tried to install it from there but it still fails. But I can still run Ubuntu from the USB and do stuff with it and that is how I can use it at this point. However, I now managed to configure my DSL connection on Ubuntu but basically, the webpages won't barely load, probably because Ubuntu's Mozilla Firefox would depend everything on the space left within the USB itself which may no be enough to handle web browsing.

Finally!!! Some enhancements lol. Gears of War theme from Microsoft's personalization website. I don't really know that game but the theme and the images are kinda cool.

    Ubuntu

Thanks for the replies guys but I have successfully downloaded Ubuntu ISO days ago. Thank God, I was able to speed the download with the use of a Firefox download manager plugin. But, it simply does not suit me in the installation process, cause I would get this error about a DVD or drive problem, that I need to either clean the inside of my CPU or put it somewhere that is cooler. So, I just run Ubuntu from a USB that I made bootable. I also decided to install Solaris which I did install successfully but it was even slower than Ubuntu but I don't know how to get my Internet connection running in either of those two. I removed Solaris but I can still run it from a bootable ReWritable CD where I burned its ISO. So I'd rather stick to Windows 7 which is much faster.
  4. Well to correct what you're saying, what do you mean its the "free" version??? CCleaner has always been a freeware and no paid version of CCleaner exists and those that are paid are rather fake or counterfeit versions. Where did you download the CCleaner version you are using now??? The only trusted sites to download CCleaner would be ccleaner.com and filehippo.com, any sites besides those two are risky. Also, the version of CCleaner you use may have some bugs that were not present in earlier versions you used. I suggest, you do not run the registry cleaner at all at this point. Also look into the possibility that this is the work of malware.
  5. Have you been using the registry cleaner???? I suspect it has something to do with that. If you have, please do another system restore and the next time you run CCleaner, refrain on using the registry cleaner. See if that seals the problem.
  6. I strongly agree that the registry cleaner will in deep speed up your system and in deed CCleaner's registry cleaner is far far far from perfect. Even so that it is not designed be be aggressive, people have reported problems and others would put the blame on Piriform for this. Many guys would even argue that the downside of registry cleaners outweigh its benefits. If another registry cleaner is doing better for you, who is stopping you from using that along CCleaner??? I have 4 different registry cleaners installed but even so, I had to manually choose which to fix, when using the aggressive ones.

    Ubuntu

Holy crap, I am trying to download the Ubuntu ISO right now but the problem is that with my slow connection, it will take about a day, literally to complete 699 MB. I need to test stuff with it. Since Windows 7 has a built in ISO burner, I assume that will do without a third party ISO burner program. I am aware that you can launch Ubuntu from the burned CD. But here are the questions, I have not clarified myself: 1. I am downloading Ubuntu with Firefox but after I close Firefox, then after some time, open it again to resume the download, there would be this message that the download has failed in a reason that it cannot connect to the server blah blah blah even if my Internet is working. How do I fix that???? 2. I have 2 disk partitions, local disk C has Windows 7 installed but I several programs and files that are kept in local disk D, if I install Ubuntu on local disk D, can I still access my programs and files there using Windows 7 on local disk D or will Ubuntu prevent that from happening????
  8. If they would want to remove the Live thing, why did they not do it now??? It seems that the apps they give for free always need some sort of Internet connection, so there is this file sharing and that sort of mumbo jumbo that makes it "live". Why not just make those apps small and simple or even portable like what third party apps that don't require too many components to be installed???? Speaking of OS, Goggle is dumping Microsoft's OS from their company use so that their employees would start using Chrome OS, but I doubt it won't even make a quarter of Microsoft's market shares. http://www.zdnet.com/blog/btl/google-dumps-windows-is-microsofts-os-headed-down-a-troubled-path/35212?tag=nl.e019
  9. Well most viruses attack PC's and there are only very few viruses work on Macs, I think. So Macs are technically ahead in that sort of stuff though, even if probably like you, I'm a loyal PC user. But Microsoft in my view, have not been making their OSs as close to perfection as they should be so that third party companies who make third party software such as antivirus are in with a shot while using Microsoft's OS. But I really hate the fact that Microsoft made their own software such as WLE, not as healthy for the computer as it should be. And the reason for that would be, the WLE team in different from the guys on the OS development team.
  10. No, I doubt Windows 7 security is still a bit down sometimes. I have not seen any very tight security properties in Windows 7 that can apparently match Mac's security anyway. What I wanted was the self-healing registry and that sort of stuff. The previous Windows Live Essentials doesn't even give me a chance to install to a custom location and when I removed in with Revo, there were a thousand orphaned registry keys and many orphaned folders left. Never mention WLE also contains a lot of small apps that are mandatorily installed when you install even one of the WLE applications.
  11. Well I have been flushing out registry keys related to my Yahoo Messenger ID, particularly on the profiles thing. I am aware they are recreated when you log in again anyway but I do feel that your idea has a certain point. However, I use another registry cleaner called "Wise Registry Cleaner" for this, but that is a more powerful registry cleaner and its not designed for inexperienced users, although it has never really given me problems that I know of when it comes to this. Those keys related to my Yahoo Messenger profile are categorized as "empty keys" though.
  12. I am not cured yet of the bad stuff that the previous Windows Live Essentials has given me. There is always a better alternative without installing so many of those crappy little tools that leave a hell lot of mess in the Windows Registry when removed so what makes this new version any better than that??? If I were Micro$oft, I'd rather want to give reliability updates or any sort of cool update that can enhance the experience without so many of the crap we've already seen. I'd rather want the self-healing properties and tighter security they should provide on their OS.
  13. That was weird. The CCleaner.exe application is deleting itself with no apparent reasons. It could be a virus or it could be one of those bugs that happen with the later CCleaner versions when run on Windows Vista and Windows XP computers. The CCleaner versions that are especially designed for Windows 7 had bugs appearing when installed on Vista and XP, I think.
  14. I am not sure but I have a feeling you will need to remove the beta first before you install the full version or maybe when the beta period ends, there could an option asking you to upgrade so I'd rather wait till the trial ends and if this option asking you to upgrade does appear, that would be the time to find out. I believe that your saved e-mail messages and contacts are saved somewhere in the Office 2010 folder that you can then copy and paste to a similar location in the Office 2010 folder in C:\Program Files after the full version is installed but this is a bit theoretical as I have not exploited MS Office myself.
  15. Yup but can we gauge how close that is to reality????
  16. Speculations about Windows 8????? Look at this video: and several others linked to it. The guy who uploaded it claims that it wasn't his video and that he had found that somewhere on the Internet but the question is: Is that for real??? Or is it just a fake one with some fancy modified theme??? Looking at the UI, its looks so advanced though.

    Restore function

Oh.. this is looking bad. System Restore is the best way to fix things that have gone wrong or damaged but since you said that this life saving option is dead... this is looking really bad. I don't know any modules in the computer that can fix system restore. I suspect something went wrong in the Registry that killed system restore. 1.Are you sure that System Protection is enabled???? 2.Are the services called Volume Shadow Copy and Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider are enabled???? 3.What do you mean exactly by System Restore ceasing to function??? Does it just do nothing when you try to create a system restore point??? 4. Did system restore work fine BEFORE you used CCleaner???? 5. Did you use any other programs or do anything else before system restore ceased to function??? 6. Have you made backups of the registry fixes you did with CCleaner??? If so try restoring them. You can use a free program called FixWin. It can fix some problems concerning system restore. Or simply use Goggle for "system restore not working"... here is a search I made for you. http://www.google.com.ph/search?q=system+restore+not+working&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a
  18. I'd rather play Super Mario than Pacman cause I think Super Mario has a wider scope of plot.
  19. I haven't heard of it. Here is a batch file I found for installing Firefox though, just modify it for installing CCleaner: @echo off echo user>> %USERPROFILE%\ftpcommands.txt echo anonymous>> %USERPROFILE%\ftpcommands.txt echo guest>> %USERPROFILE%\ftpcommands.txt echo lcd %USERPROFILE%>> %USERPROFILE%\ftpcommands.txt echo cd /pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/3.5.1/win32/en-US>> %USERPROFILE%\ftpcommands.txt echo bin %USERPROFILE%>> %USERPROFILE%\ftpcommands.txt echo get "Firefox Setup 3.5.1.exe">> %USERPROFILE%\ftpcommands.txt echo quit>> %USERPROFILE%\ftpcommands.txt ftp -v -n -s:ftpcommands.txt releases.mozilla.org del %USERPROFILE%\ftpcommands.txt cd %USERPFOFILE% "Firefox Setup 3.5.1" Save as Download Firefox.bat
  20. Of course, different software are designed differently.... some are made for this kind of user, some other software is designed for that user. However, the only thing I could warn you is that, aggressive registry cleaners are more likely to cause problems. CCleaner detects less but safer but not completely safe.
  21. Wipe free space is not recommended to be done on every cleaning operation cause it can shorten the life of the drive. I do not recommend you use it at this point. One guy even suggested that you should only do the wipe free space at times like if you are about to sell the computer with that drive. I am not sure if it can be done on a network drive as I have never tried it, but take caution of what I just said.
  22. A holiday since the 27th of April??? He's been missing for 3 weeks now.
  23. If EasyCleaner is detecting more registry entries and junk files for you, who is preventing you from using both that and CCleaner??? I recommend you to make a system restore point first and backup the registry using a program called Erunt.
  24. I had the same birthday as this one. By the way Andavari, you are now between 39-40, according to my calculations.
  25. Yes this is probably the nicest forum I've been. I have been to a forum that people seem to insult beginners and they would discuss sensitive topics. There isn't that much active members but at least we support each other with knowledge. I have learned a lot of things from you guys, especially on the computer maintenance stuff and I have shared a little I know of as well. I think DennisD and kroozer thanked me for what I have shared and Hazel was generous enough to even made a thread with my name in it . The mods sometimes say "welcome to the forums" to the new people. And thanks to ishan_rulz for illuminating that. By the way, anyone notice what happened to marmite??? He's missing lol.
