  1. No, that's why I will have problems if I format a partition containing either one of my Linux distros cause that would remove their bootloaders as well and make booting of Windows 7 impossible and my only choice is to install another Linux distro with a Gnome bootloader. Visually, I still think they could not contend with Windows 7, especially that only Windows 7 can make me watch live TV on my computer and I believe Linux Mint 9 also has audio problems. When I watch Youtube videos, I do feel the audio is distorted and the quality is not as good as in Windows.
  2. Now, I have successfully made a triple boot system. Windows 7 is still the best operating system among them but the two others are Peppermint and Linux Mint 9 who work well with me especially that I have used Wine to make Windows-compatible programs work with them. Linux Mint 9 is far superior that Peppermint and my printer works with Mint 9 but fails in Peppermint. Linux Mint 9 also has the entire Open Office suite preinstalled. My Internet would work good from those two if I would boot either one of them first before booting Windows 7 cause if I boot Windows first before my Linux distros, the connection will just go too slow on them. Its something I can't explain.
  3. There has been 2 other threads here that I know of about this website one of which was started by me. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=29262 An the other started by login123: http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=29481
  4. Thanks for the tip. I now have it formally installed. I think I now know the technique on how to make the Internet work well in there. Plus, with the Software Manager, I know have Open Office Writer and Open Office Calc installed instead of having the whole suite. It has a lot of these fancy cloud apps as well but it always shows me that permission denied warning if I try to get here in this forum from Peppermint's Firefox 4 Beta which also has problems with Yahoo Mail. I still have my Ubuntu 9 on the other hand but I now have 3 operating systems installed on a single PC which is great.
  5. I have tested a lot of Linux stuff and I still have their ISO's. I have tested: Solaris (tested on a CD and installed to a partition but I removed afterwards) Ubuntu 10 ( tested on a CD and a USB but failed to be installed on the system) Ubuntu 9 (tested on a CD and is currently installed on a different partition but cannot connect to the Internet) Linux Mint 9 a.k.a Isadora (tested on my 4GB USB and its still there but failed to be installed on the system) DSL "Damn Small Linux" ( tested on my USB but fails to boot in my idea) Peppermint OS (tested on my 1GB USB and its still there but sadly does not have Open Office) Maybe this should make you think I like testing Linux distros.

    Peppermint OS

I now have Peppermint OS on my USB. I used Universal-USB-Installer-v1.7.6 to embed it there. If I boot from the USB, I can use Peppermint. I like it well. But the major thing that drags it down for me is that it doesnt have Open Office apps preinstalled unlike so many other Linux distros. I am willing to swap my Ubuntu 9 for it, if only it has Open Office. But what I really like most from it is I can use Internet from Firefox 4 Beta on it, thank God. However, when my Internet is periodically slow, it would barely load websites. I can access the homepage and go to the search results and image searches on Google but beyond that, it just takes forever to load But if my Internet is fast, its doing well, loads websites and I can watch Youtube. And that is all from an OS running on a USB.
  7. Augeas should at least wear an avatar. Congratulations so far.

Well, the only fully functional RW CD I have has my only fully functional Ubuntu 9 burned on it. And I don't have the Ubuntu 9 ISO either so I cannot wipe that out. No, this is a very different case. My Windows 7 would boot perfectly, but I tried to install "Damn Small Linux" to a USB. I would boot from the USB, it would boot that I can see the penguin logo but whenever, I continue on what I thought was the standard method by pressing ENTER, it would just go unresponsive and I don't know why. I use Universal-USB-Installer-v1.7.6 for embedding portable operating systems to a USB, it supports another version of Damn Small Linux, different from the one I got so it may not fully support that but unless I explore it further, I could be wrong.
  9. I think the ones who would have problem with this would be the inexperienced users who would just save these reg backups to a location where so many other things are kept such as My Documents butu it may be hard to find. I personally do this on a computer shop outside because I felt too lazy to save the CCleaner reg backups elsewhere and I assumed that the My Documents folder is where they would most likely keep their stuff anyway. But once you have chosen a backup directory, that is where CCleaner would intend to save backups the next time anyway. But on my own PC, I made a folder on my D: drive and named it as "Backup" and that is where I keep CCleaner's registry backups, my manual registry backups, the Erunt full registry backups and even the registry backups from another registry cleaner. I have 4 registry cleaners in all. The other two would not allow me to save the backups to a custom location, only on their program folders but since they are all installed on the D: drive, I know where they are kept. So in this case, its better that CCleaner allows you to save registry backups to a custom location but I approve so much the idea that CCleaner should have the ability to restore and delete registry backups from its own GUI because most of the the other registry cleaners I've tried has this function so why not CCleaner???

All the Linux things I tried failed to make me connect to the Internet. I tried Ubuntu 10 and Linux Mint 9 on a USB and they did establish a connection but when I open Mozilla and go to Yahoo, the pages just won't load. I installed Solaris, the same thing happened, then Linux 9, which is also installed on my PC, fails to establish a connection. I use a cable MODEM, not a USB modem though. This is just killing my taste for Linux because I also felt they lacked a little innovation. Well, I already have the Peppermint ISO, but got to get myself a new CD. I was trying this thing they call "DSL" today which stands for "Damn Small Linux", only 50 MB in size which can be run on a USB, but I don't know if my Universal-USB-Installer-v1.7.6 has configured it properly on my USB though or I have to try another app that will embed the OS to a USB.
  11. Well it happened again today. I can't get here after repeated attempts.
  12. I have been having times that I can't access this forum because it is supposedly forbidden and I don't know why. Any ideas??? This happens on random occasions everyday I try to get here and usually the forum is inaccessible for me within hours. Any ideas???
  13. Mr. Don, I don't think we are here to discuss Windows XP vs. Windows 7. It may be the case for you and your hardware and software but not necessarily the case for me and many others. Windows XP is ages behind data backup though in terms of default things and I don't seem to be having too many problems with Windows 7 that I want to complain about in terms of usage. Back on the topic, I tend to agree that they make WFS a tool. Its just gets better and better if it supports more and more apps to clean. But yeah, I wish it would have the ability to remove unless files and folders in the AppData and ProgramData directories simply because its easy for such programs to leave remnants in there after removal.
  14. Many professionals today still use Windows XP. Would it really feel better to you if a good program (such as CCleaner) is universally compatible so that we get no complaints from other users saying its "unfair"???
  15. Marmite has been gone since last April, I think. What happened to him??? He was a great member.
  16. If you count how many percent of people in the world right now are still using Windows XP, you will just see why many would be upset. Guess what, Windows XP is still the world's most widely used operating system right now and dropping support for that on CCleaner 3 is just ridiculous, now that CCleaner is the world's top tweaking utility, I doubt they won't let this slip too badly. Even Microsoft had extended their support for Windows XP SP2 last July. Windows 7 is catching up fast but still, we have lots of XP users. http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_os.asp
  17. I think all CCleaner versions and builds should be available even to XP users because if XP support is dropped for version 3, we would have a lot of fans (diehard XP users) who would be so upset and this is also to keep up with the innovations that other utility programs are having. Its best that XP support is NOT dropped. But however, I would like more of the aero UI feel for CCleaner. However, a feel inspired by the soothing MS Office 2010 aero is what comes into my mind.

Well, Tasgandy was very proud of his Ubuntu. I had my Ubuntu 9 installed almost 2 months now but I'm too lazy to post a thread about it in here or notify Tasgandy about it. So far, the major problem I had with it is that I can't get my Internet to work with it. My MODEM might not support it. But this Peppermint thing wouldn't be a bad thing to try. Its smaller than the Ubuntu ISO, I would get it now if only I am not too hesitant about my slow Internet connection.
  19. I like new cleaning options and a newer, more stylish user interface.
  20. I don't really know what the toolbar does for profits. I have seen several apps prompting me to install the Ask toolbar though. It makes revenue for Piriform??? Yes, I was thinking, I should get the slim build next time.
  21. I don't know if this was suggested before but I think the option to install CCleaner's Yahoo toolbar should be disabled by default on the installation setup. For inexperienced users who would just install without unchecking unneeded components, they would be installing another toolbar that they may not really need or want and CCleaner's Yahoo toolbar is just one of those. These toolbars will just clutter the space in the browser and potentially make it slower so I suggest this should be UNCHECKED by default so it only gets installed if needed and desired. In my own mind, I also want the Run CCleaner and Open CCleaner Recycle bin context menus disabled by default because those are not hugely significant and noticed especially with the CCleaner taskbar jump lists that I enjoy so much.
  22. I want the fewest possible number of programs launching from startup simply because they somehow make minor delays in the performance. I only have 2 startup items that I know of, my antivirus and the sidebar that shows my desktop gadgets. I support this idea. However, going to System Configuration by typing msconfig on Run and going to the Startup tab can show some items that are not shown on CCleaner's module. There are programs like Yahoo! Messenger for example, that even if you disable it with CCleaner or in the System Configuration option, they still launch at startup unless you disable that on its own program settings. Its quite annoying this way so I think they should make a way that will block this from happening.
  23. Well in my case, I disabled the UAC long ago. For new users, especially when Vista first came out, many people thought of this UAC to be a curse lol, it just asks for this bloody prompt when you try to open a third party program. Many had thought that Vista is so hard to operate because it has this thing called UAC blocking you from making simple decisions such as opening a program. And I think, many, especially the inexperienced type of users haven't found a way to get rid of UAC. Even on Windows 7, I have it completely disabled.
  24. I would personally choose to download some third party font styles.

    Windows 8 info

From my understanding Anomaly, we are here to discuss about Windows 8 not a debate about which OS is the best. Every OS has its pros and cons and its up to you which would weigh better for you and which one is best for you. If you like Macs better, that is your choice. But people would still prefer what they have accustomed themselves with because they can do what they need to do with those and if they have accustomed themselves with Windows OSs, you cannot force them to believe that Macs are so much ahead and better in this kind of discussion. If you think learning Macs is so easy, maybe that is for you but not necessarily the same for the rest of us. It still depends on personal taste and ability. But lets not get too far with this discussion and putting blame and offensive rants with each other ( I am talking to the others as well). Do not think that just because people stick with Windows means they are inexperienced and cannot judge other OS, because they themselves MIGHT have used them and might have decades of knowledge ahead than you and me. If you are to make a discussion like this on the Windows 7 Forums, they will hate you for life and many more will call you a troll. No offense here, mate, but it seems that most of us here are against you. Peace to you lol, no hard feelings.
