Around 48 Woody?

Old and grumpy here and I'll be 54 in January where I share the the same birthday as our very own Mod in DennisD.

DennisD is way older (and grumpier) than me though, like about a year I think.

Coming up fast on my 69th birthday.

So old I remember the TRS-80, Osborne, Timex Sinclair, Coleco Adam, Commodore, Franlin, Kaypro, Heath/Zenith, Atari and other computers too numerous to mention. The Tandy 1000 was my first PC.

So old I remember discrete components and vacuum tubes and working on electronic gear with a 125 watt soldering iron.

So old I'm still amazed at what a single IC chip can do and the information available on the internet with a few keyboard stokes.

Hope the next 69 years show as much progress.

I remember one of our engineers getting a Commodore 64, the 64 was not GB, MB it was K. Then the 128 came out, BIG stuff, not even a fraction of a Game boy today.

And video games? Yes I do have one.....PONG, in a box somewhere, it was big stuff also.

I got my BSBA 20 years and my MBA 10 years before W95. Far out!

Four to be accurate Humpty, and I've hit the memory thing. The senior moments. First you forget names, then you forget faces. Then you forget to pull up your zipper, although it's worse when you forget to pull it down. :(

Coming up on 64.

I remember slide rules, mechanical adding machines, ferite core memory, 1200BPS dial-up modems, 5.5 floppy diskettes with DOS 1.0 and rotary dial telephones that were owned by Bell.

61 years young next week.

I remember the news, entertainment, the whole outside world came through the huge speaker on the front of my Grandmother's full height Kolster Radio cabinet. Singing and playing the stand up piano, songs like "Winter Wonderland" and "White Christmas". Playing 33, 45, and 78 RPM records. Bread and all dairy products delivered to the back door. Door to door "salesman" at the front door, along with the newspaper at the front door and mail through the mail slot. The sounds of the streetcars going uphill and downhill two blocks away. Knowing the first and last name of every neighbor on the block. The back alley as a safe place to play. Real heroes that did no wrong or they weren't heroes. Milk, all drinks of all sizes in recycled glass bottles.

Technology has changed for the better but some other things have been lost.

I hope and pray, not forever. :) davey Yes, life was simpler then.

I was near 71 when this post was started. Now I'm 74 and a lot has happened in the past three years. I still enjoy reading the posts and using some of your ideas.

Thanks for allowing me to be here.

You and me both! Funny how we get this image of people in our heads and then we're totally wrong. It's nice to see a big diversity in the members though. Brings a lot of life and color to the forums. :)

Oh yeah! Especially with the Avatars, kind of puts a picture in your mind plus the comments it can be interesting.

BTW, my normal Avatar isn't Pong.

Yeah I'll be 20 in a few months. :D

I like to think that you thought I was older because I'm so fantastically brilliant. B) (oh and if that's not the reason I suggest you keep it to yourself OR ELSE. )

Interesting that. The times I've seen you mention being busy at college I couldn't quite work out whether you were teaching or being taught.

In fact I still can't. Is it an old(er) student or a young teacher/lecturer you are? And why am I talking like Yoda? ;)

Oh definitely. It's always fun finding out if your "picture" is what the person is really like though.

LOL ok. But now that you mention it (even if it is off-topic) I really miss Pong...and I miss my Atari.

Ol' John Belushi and I are the same age, well except he checked out about 25 years ago, still he was a funny guy.

Oh yeah, one other thing, I have blonde hair and blue eyes, isn't the cyberworld fun!
