  1. "Corp." is simply an abbrivation of "Corporation". It doesn't make any difference to anything which one has been used, they both mean the same thing. Microsoft will use either one, or sometimes both, when signing their software. You'd have to ask MS why they use each one in different places. But there is probably no particular reason why other than which developer is typing it in at the time, or possibly how much space they have to display it in a particular message box? It's quite common for programmers/developers to shorten longer words so that they will fit more neatly in a message box.
  2. Surely you are aware that the International Community has placed sanctions on Russia and Russian controlled areas? Parts of Ukraine will be affected by those sanctions, including some parts that are not under Russian control. Those sanctions include restriction of the use of parts of the internet, and the use of certain softwares. They are international sanctions and as such are beyond the control of your ISP or of any software company. Which parts of Ukraine are affected are affected will change with time as the situation changes. The Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions have recently been included in the sanctions, which may account for what you are now experiencing. https://www.consilium.europa.eu/en/press/press-releases/2022/10/06/eu-adopts-its-latest-package-of-sanctions-against-russia-over-the-illegal-annexation-of-ukraine-s-donetsk-luhansk-zaporizhzhia-and-kherson-regions/
  3. The liecence server does seem to have been having intermittent issues this week. I first noticed it on Thursday, it couldn't find details of existing licences for an hour or so. Others have repoered various issues with it on and off. I've already flagged it up and will add yours to the report. So as that notice says 'Try again later', it will probably be back on. (It's finding my licence details OK at the moment). If it hasn't cleared up for you then you should email support@ccleaner.com and ask for their help. But TBH if it's an intermittent server glitch then support won't be able to do much more than you can, someone needs to find what's causing the glitch and fix it.
  4. Either that or use Custom Clean instead of Health Check. If you never use those programmes then you can just uninstall them.
  5. CCleaner does not download any other programmes when you run it. It may/will update programmes that are already on your machine if you use Health Check in CCleaner Pro. Is that what you are meaning?
  6. Cheers, if it becomes a recurring issue then timings may help track down the cause.
  7. Yes I got that 'expires today' notification yesterday As the licence I use is a staff one and is good until 2025 I knew it was wrong. It seems to have be a glitch where the licence server briefly couldn't access expiry dates for some reason, so if you opened CCleaner you got that notification. It was quickly corrected yesterday so most will not have seen it, only those who happened to open CCleaner during that short period. I'm not seeing it today, maybe it glitched again? Can you say what time it was when the notification popped up for you? I can't comment on McaFee
  8. Related posts merged. It is not a good idea to have files that you want to keep in the recycle bin, - a bin is for rubbish not for things that you want to keep. Health Check will always empty the recycle bin. But you can set it so only files that have been in the bin for more than 24 hours will be cleared. The setting is in Options>Advanced. The ticks/unticks in the Custom Clean lists are for Custom Clean only, they do not affect what Health Check does. If you don't want the bin to be emptied then use Custom Clean and not Health Check. You can set Custom Clean to be the default that CCleaner shows you. Go to Options>Settings>CCleaner Home Screen. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To try and recover deleted files then you need to use a recovery tool such as Recuva, the Free version is all you need. Chances of sucessful recovery will depend on how much you have used the computer since deleting the files. It will also depend on what type of disc drive it is, how it is formatted, etc. https://www.ccleaner.com/recuva
  9. There did seem to be a glitch with the licence server earlier today. It didn't last long and it appears to be working OK now so you might want to try again? - but as Nergal says you are probably best emailing support for their assistance.
  10. No real need for the attitude. But yes - Stop using Health Check and learn how to set up Custom Clean to clean what you want.
  11. I guess that you are using Health Check which includes an automatic Software Updater in CCleaner Pro. Your best, easiest, option if you don't want that is to use Custom Clean instead. Open CCleaner, go to Options>Settings, and set the CCleaner Home Screen to 'Custom Clean'. You will have to check that the ticks/unticks are how you want them - but it won't try to update your software automatically. If you do ever want to check then Tools>Software Update.
  12. Supping in Whitehaven? Must be, and I'm sure you know the local version of what happened. (Not the 'official' American version which has a bunch of Yankee sailors apparently unable to set fire to coal barges because it was raining. LOL dumb yankees ain't that dumb but after months at sea most sailors like to go on the p**s ashore and get incapable). It sounds like you ran the full gamut of tools now available in CCleaner. Which TBH is not a good idea. A bit at a time, (and some I wouldn't touch at all). I've still never seen a message like that from CCleaner, but I would look at if you have put those apps to sleep in Performance Optimiser?
  13. You appear to be in a 'Russian controlled' area. If the internet powers-that-be have decreed that access is to be denied to that area then there is nothing that the CCleaner developers can do about that.
  14. That does not sound like something that CCleaner would ask you. I've certainly never known it ask anything like that. Can you remember which parts of CCleaner you had run? It's more the kind of thing that an antivirus/antimalware programme would ask. Were you running an anti virus scan after using CCleaner? If so what was it? If you are lucky then your AV, or whatever was asking, may have 'quarantined' them rather than deleting them.
  15. I'd suspect that you have your browser synced, (or maybe your browser is still running in the background) have a read of this: PS. Which browser(s) are you using?
  16. And just for anyone looking here's another 'Recent Files' list - the recent files in the Taskbar jump Lists - and how to clear it with Custom Clean.
  17. Windows keeps multiple different 'Recently used' lists for different places and different things. In this case the 'recently used' list is the one for apps that are pinned to the Taskbar - so what you need to be clearing is 'Taskbar Jump Lists'.
  18. I do recall this being an issue with logging in while back. It lasted a week or two. It threw up that message once, but when you tried a second time it let you log in. I'll see if I can find more about what was going on back then, but as I recall it just stopped doing it after IPS updated the forum software again. PS. I've also seen the same error thrown up when logging onto Malwarebytes forum which also uses the same IPS software.
  19. It happens sometimes, it's usually when the forum software is being updated/maintained. It usually only lasts for a minute or two, but sometimes can be for longer. Has it stopped now or is it happening every time for you?
  20. It Skips Edge because Edge is still open in the background. See this for how to turn off Edge background running so that CCleaner can clean it rather than skipping it: As for the 'Do you want to close EDGE' message. If you stop Edge from background running then you don't need it because CCleaner won't need to ask you to close Edge anyway. If you don't stop Edge from background running and so do want that message back then the easiest way is to reset CCleaner to the default settings, or if that doesn't work to uninstall/reinstall CCleaner. That does of course mean you'll then have to set up any other changes that you had made again.
  21. The paid for version has exactly the same recovery functionality as the free version, no more. If the free version can't recover it then neither will the paid version. Personally I'd save your money, What you pay for is Priority Support if you raise a ticket, support for virtual Hard Drives (who uses one?), and Automatic Updates (Recuva hasn't had a fucntional update for years, it has had an update recently but that was about the licencing system not functionallity). I'm not sure about recovering from an SD card, if it's from a camera than it may have a format that Recuva can't recognise? Someone else will no doubt be along with more idea than I have about SD cards.
  22. Mostly Yes - but also No - it depends. For technical reasons there is a slight possibility of recovering a deleted file from a SSD - that possibility is if it hasn't been long since the file was deleted. But for general purposes you can say that deleted files cannot be recovered from an SSD. As many have found out when trying to do just that. To try and simplify the Techie bits: (A lot of this I learned when wondering about TRIM and garbage collection on a SSD that I have connected over wifi as a network drive). With HDD's once data is written in stays in that place on the disk even after deletion. As it's still there then it can be recovered until it gets overwritten with something new. Secure Deletion is simply overwriting the deleted file with something new. (Usually just random 1's and 0's). Drive Wiping is the same but for the whole free space, or the whole disk. SSDs work differently and can't overwrite 'deleted' data, it needs to be erased first. SSD's tidy themselves up automatically and move existing valid data about, then erase (wipe) anything else. That's called 'Active Garbage Collection' on a SSD, it happens automatically and means there is nothing left to recover. https://uk.crucial.com/articles/about-ssd/active-garbage-collection (It's also partly why you don't normally need to defrag SSD's, the automatic garbage collection moves the valid data to the best location for it, thus 'defragging' it in the process). Note: Some recovery softwares will/do claim to be able to recover from SSD's - but that's only because of that time window for deleted files that haven't been garbage collected yet. Also note that some will say that you can recover from a SSD if you don't have TRIM enabled. Again it's not the full truth, if/when TRIM in enabled then garbage collection will happen more frequently, but even without TRIM garbage collection still happens, it just needs a different trigger than a TRIM. So having TRIM turned off gives a longer 'window' of time to recover a deleted file from a SSD, but eventually garbage collection will fully erase it. https://uk.crucial.com/articles/about-ssd/what-is-trim For example TRIM is an ATA command so only issued over SATA connections. If an external SSD is conected by USB then it can't get a TRIM command issued by the computer. It will still garbage collect though, just not as often. PS. Some external USB drive enclosures have built-in software that will regularly issue a TRIM command because the computer can't.
  23. Do you have any blocks on Avast? A group of related companies, Avast, AVG, HMA and Piriform/CCleaner, now share a common licensing system. It may be that the server that needs to be contacted is at Avast. There again servers do sometimes go offline for maintenance, and are fine if you try again later.
  24. When did you first contact them? It's email messaging not a 'live chat' service. You will get a reply but not instantly. Give it a couple of hours for a reply, or as it's weekend maybe a day.
