  1. Agreed. I only kept it for about a week after it changed to Defender, but used to use MS anti-spyware regularly
  2. Try this: http://forum.ccleaner.com/index.php?showtopic=1192
  3. Tom, do you have to sign on to AOL to start your BB connection or is your connection permanently on? If not this may be of interest (it'll also give a more stable connection): Create a DUN connection
  4. Its only needed to run the software. I have the broadband connection permanently connected using a DUN connection so don't need that service, but if I start the AOL browser (which is rarely) that service is needed.
  5. Errr, not if he actually uses AOL he won't. AOL, on broadband, will NOT work without the connectivity service. I have tested and proved as such. If you stop the service running whilst AOL is open, AOL crashes. Remove the connectivity service altogether and it will prompt to reinstall at next startup. The broadband connection will still work assuming you don't have to sign on to AOL to connect but the browser won't start without it (personally I don't use the AOL browser but thought I should point this out just in case Tom does). The Top Speed thing is part of AOL9 and an attempt to speed up web browsing with the AOL browser but its hopeless anyway and before I converted to Firefox I always had it disabled.
  6. Most of my updated drivers are backed up to disk already, though I may give this program a try anyway.

    WebFldrs XP

There is a method to make those files show in add/remove and you could hide those again if this is how it was done, but I wouldn't worry about it. A quick Google found the method for showing the hidden items, you could probably do the reverse of the description to hide them if you really wanted: http://member.apcug.org/rcuinc/add_Remove_...en_programs.htm
  8. Thanks Chris. Not sure I have any use for this but very good of you to post the link here
  9. Is there any merit in uninstalling the old version before installing FF2 or does it install over the old version without a problem? What happens if you install FF2 and have incompatible extensions? And is there any way to check what extensions ar compatible before installing?
  10. Thanks Andavari, I shall replace it with this one. Extremely useful and very much appreciated
  11. Any differences between this one and the one you posted in the RegSeeker thread?
  12. Thanks for that, my right click context menu was getting really cluttered. Much better now
  13. Ah well, that'll teach me for not jumping on it when I had the chance. They've caught on to the fact it was being linked to and have took it down. Never mind, got Ashampoo WinOptimizer and Registry Mechanic out of them first WinOptimizer seems pretty average and doesn't do anything different to what my current programs already do. Reg Mechanic seems pretty good though, anyone have any opinions on how safe Reg Mechanic is? (Link to free Reg Mechanic still active at: http://www.computeractive.co.uk/vnunet/dow...try-mechanic50)
  14. Having never used one of these programs what would be the main uses for this? Is it an alternetive to backup software?
  15. No problem, you're not the first to miss that
  16. I've tried their other program, GameXP and found that to be buggy and it caused several problems which the programs own created backups didn't fix. Therefore I wouldn't trust SafeXP myself
  17. Same here. I remembered THIS thread regarding the problem so thought I'd post to inform of the updated fixed version
  18. Just discovered another useful extension. Not been using it for long but it works very well and so far I like it alot. Tab Preview: Tab Preview is an extension that shows a preview window of tab contents when you move your mouse over a background tab. It's simple to use, but surprisingly useful.
  19. Firefox someties continues to run for, a usually short, time after closing it. By doing as suggested you will be able to see if it is running and end it if it is. Heres the user friendly translation of fire in the skys reply: Hold down the Ctrl and Alt keys on your keyboard then press Del. This will bring up the Windows Task Manager. At the top of the task manager there are tabs titled Applications, Processes, Performance, Networking and Users. Click the tab titled processes. This will show all the processes running on your computer. With Firefox closed see if this list contains an entry called 'Firefox.exe'. If it does click once on the Firefox entry to highlight it, then click the 'End Process' button at the bottom. This will bring up a warning window, don't worry about this, just tick yes to continue. You will then be able to run CCleaner and clean Firefox's cache Try the above then after running CCleaner check if Firefox continues to run in the background when it isn't actually open. You don't use the Firefox Preloader do you?
  20. There's a new version of Site Advisor released. And, unlike the last update, this one works
  21. No problem, made the same mistake myself when I first started using the custom files and folders option
  22. Not much of an IT man then. Why not post the issues you are having here, people will be happy to help where they can

    IIS Log Files

From the CCleaner Beginners Guide: IIS (Internet Information Server) is the service Windows uses to display web pages. This comes with most XP Pro and Windows 2000 installations and is generally only used by web developers or designers. Every time someone requests a page it gets logged to a text file. Unless the computer is a web server, these are generally not needed, and may be safely deleted. This option will safely delete these files.
