  1. Eh?! If you're using WinXP, start in safe mode by tapping F8 when you turn on you computer till a menu comes up with safe mode on it. Use the arrow keys to select it then press enter. It will the startup in safe mode (it looks crappy but don't worry thats normal). When the desktop comes up select and run CCleaner as normal. While you're there run disk defrag as you'll get a far better defrag in safe mode
  2. In this case I would suggest leaving the startup and uninstall sections of CCleaner well alone. They are an aditional feature of CCleaner and not necessarily things that need fixing. Stick to the 'Cleaner' and 'Issues' section. Don't tick ANY of the boxes in the cleaners advanced section. And as Hazel suggested you can make a backup before fixing anything in the issues section. Not being able to automatically login to some sites, and sites that save certain login information, is all to do with the cookies. Do as Hazel suggested by going in to the cookies section and setting it to keep the ones with website names that match the sites giving you problems. If you've already cleaned all the cookies you will need to go back to the sites and login before they will show up on the cookies list in CCleaner. (PS you may also have problems caused by the 'power surge' you mentioned that may be unrelated to CCleaner)
  3. Been using 7.5 for a couple of weeks and had no problems deleting what CCleaner finds. If you're worried about it just let CCleaner make a backup before it deletes it.
  4. I noticed the FiltersetG site (Pierceive.com) had gone down a couple of days ago. May have to look for an alternative filter source

    Zune Theme?

From the above link: "If you already have Royale installed, you?ll need to remove it as both of these skins share the same name."

    Zune Theme?

Shame you have to uninstall Royale to use it though

    firefox

The download statusbar just shows the status of your downloads, it has no effect on their speed. I don't think it will work with DownThemAll but I could be wrong. Most people will advise against using Fasterfox, and despite having used it for a while, I would now agree. Get rid of Fasterfox and use Firetune to tweak Firefox instead: http://www.totalidea.com/content/firetune/...tune-index.html For further suggestions check the link Woody posted where several of us have posted our favourite extensions
  8. I've never realised before, only noticed with WMP11 because I was spending time trying to understand it and it confused/irritated me when it started up for the first time it automatically added all my music files to the library. I don't like any program that does something without asking first. I then noticed it was phoning home when I was checking if CCleaner cleaned WMP11 and noticed the web adresses. Does CCleaner clean version 11? Think I'll block it through my firewall rather than hosts file, at least I can easily allow it again then.
  9. I've just installed Windows Media Player 11 and found every time I use it its connecting to the net for something and I can't find what setting is causing this. I have unticked ALL the options under WMP's privacy tab but its still happening. The following is the traffic log from my firewall for the period after starting WMP: 11/03/2006 05:17:00 Allowed Outgoing images.metaservices.microsoft.com 11/03/2006 05:17:00 Allowed Outgoing images.metaservices.microsoft.com 11/03/2006 05:17:00 Allowed Outgoing img.od2.com 11/03/2006 05:17:00 Allowed Outgoing redir.metaservices.microsoft.com 11/03/2006 05:17:00 Allowed Outgoing go.microsoft.com 11/03/2006 05:17:00 Allowed Outgoing go.microsoft.com 11/03/2006 05:17:00 Allowed Outgoing onlinestores.metaservices.microsoft.com 11/03/2006 05:17:00 Allowed Outgoing www.emusic.com 11/03/2006 05:17:00 Allowed Outgoing wmp11.vidzone.tv The following is what CCleaner is showing to clean after just starting WMP then immediately running CCleaner: http://images.metaservices.microsoft.com/svcswitch/wm_com_v_rgb_15x15.png(&H41) 981 byteshttp://images.metaservices.microsoft.com/svcswitch/WindowsMediaPlayer11_30x30.png(&H41) 1.98KBhttp://wmp11.vidzone.tv/wmp11/images/logo_icon.jpg(&H41) 467 byteshttp://images.metaservices.microsoft.com/svcswitch/ServiceInfoMGGB.xml?locale=409&geoid=f2&version=11.0.5721.5145&userlocale=809(&H41) 508 byteshttp://img.od2.com/ServiceInfo/icons/PackardBell/wmp10service.png(&H41) 596 byteshttp://img.od2.com/ServiceInfo/icons/PackardBell/wmp10serviceLarge.png(&H41) 1017 byteshttp://img.od2.com/ServiceInfo/shop16/associd4/serviceinfo.xml?locale=409&geoid=f2&version=11.0.5721.5145&userlocale=809(&H41) 1.63KBhttp://www.emusic.com/images/frameworks/wmp10/logo-15x15.png(&H41) 887 byteshttp://onlinestores.metaservices.microsoft.com/serviceswitching/AllServices.aspx?sv=2&locale=409&geoid=f2&version=11.0.5721.5145&userlocale=809(&H2041) 1.51KBC:\Documents and Settings\*****\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\D7GUXKZF\desktop.ini 67 bytesC:\Documents and Settings\*****\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\desktop.ini 67 bytesC:\Documents and Settings\*****\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\NXQ7PLMM\desktop.ini 67 bytesC:\Documents and Settings\*****\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\WZ3JZER8\desktop.ini 67 bytesC:\Documents and Settings\*****\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\YHWXN0PO\desktop.ini 67 bytesC:\Documents and Settings\*****\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\desktop.ini 67 bytesCookie:*****@onlinestores.metaservices.microsoft.com/serviceswitching/(&H100001) 146 bytesC:\Documents and Settings\*****\Local Settings\History\History.IE5\desktop.ini 145 bytes Can anyone tell me what WMP setting I need to change to stop this???
  10. That just sounds silly to me, why can't they just use a regular cookie
  11. Agreed, any cleaner with that type of option is just asking for trouble IMHO
  12. I am a long time user of AVG Free AV and its never let me down. Resource wise its currently using between 500 to 900k.
  13. Here I am Its simple really, in Firefox click on tools at the top of the browser, go to the FEBE entry, and from there you can restore whatever items you want, ie if you backed up your entire profile select restore profile, if you just want to restore an individual item (such as your extensions) you can select it seperately. Welcome to the forum by the way
  14. "If a pig loses its voice, is it disgruntled?"
  15. With the number of new forum posters asking questions that are easily answered by reading the CCleaner beginners guide, perhaps a link to the beginners guide could be put in the program. Or maybe better, added to the web page that comes up when you click on CCleaners 'Online help' link.

    My security

I still use Sygate firewall which hasn't been updated for a long time, and isn't even supported anymore, but it still flies through every leak test I've tried. So even though I've been considering a change lately I think I'll be sticking with it for a while yet
  17. Really?!?! Even with the added AOL rubbish (eg talk of advertising, banners etc in the EULA)

    help

Unless its your leg of course, in which case seeing a doctor is probably a slightly better course of action
  19. Excellent, hopefully a fix will be in a future version soon
  20. I recently tried out a bunch of defraggers and the only one I found to be any better than Windows own defrag was DirMS. Perhaps try TuneXP which has a pretty good 'Fast booting (re-arrange boot files)' function. It noticeably speeded up the boot time on my PC.
  21. Yes but IE7 isn't Firefox

    AVG files

They're perfectly fine to clean. The AVG ones are just things like old log files etc (I have AVG and have never had any problems using CCleaner with it). The AdAware one you mentioned is an old spyware definitions file, not needed as you will have a newer definitions file installed.
  23. And the contribution link to support MS goes to Mozilla My favourite bit has to be "MS Firefox 2007 delivers a dramatic boost in the download speeds of online pornography. By utilising a proprietary dynamic algorithm - anything that remotely resembles a tit or a boob will download up to 10 times faster." They've won me over
  24. Another extension I recently stumbled across: AutoHide: Proper full screen when pressing F11, ie NO toolbars, status bar, taskbar if so desired. And fully configurable to show what toolbars are shown (if any) in full screen. Moving cursor to top or bottom of the page will show toolbars for use then they will autohide again when you move the cursor away.
