  1. Ok, thanks again (Can you tell I've finally got round to trying winapp2, AFTER 2 YEARS OF USING CCLEANER lol )
  2. Thanks for the explanation, much appreciated. Can safely remove those installation files now and have no use for the FTP cleaning so will remove that entry from my winapp2. One more I just noticed - 'More Windows Explorer'? Bit vague and couldn't work it out by looking at the entry so whats that?
  3. What are the 'FTP accounts' and 'Downloaded installations' (C:\Windows\Downloaded Installations) entries in the winapp2.ini download from here? The downloaded installations shows 65MB to be cleaned but I just want to know what it is before cleaning it
  4. Its generally accepted now that cleaning the prefetch folder on a regular basis harms your systems performance, hence the reason it has been moved to the advanced section of CCleaner and therefore not checked by default. Plus Windows only allows a certain number of prefetch files anyway so the folder never gets very big (usually about 5MB max).
  5. Perhaps check some of the reviews on Mozilla HERE before using this extension. As is pointed out, if you were worried about being tracked would you really want potential search terms like guns, bombs etc being used to hide your perfectly innocent search terms. Good idea in principle but I think they need to work on the word list being used at the moment. (I'm not saying don't use it, just be aware first)
  6. Thanks for the explanation Tony.
  7. Would be interesting for those of us still learning about stuff like this though.
  8. Thanks for the replies. I am using a laptop with only 64MB onboard graphics (but 3GHz P4 processor and 512MB). Been using 16 bit since getting it but want to use XPise which only works with 32bit colour, so been using 32bit for a few days and haven't noticed any performance loss. (I only play one game on this pc anyway and thats set to 16bit within the game)
  9. For what its worth, I've been using AVG Free for 3 years and have been using CCleaner for about two years, and have always had CCleaners AVG box ticked. Its never caused a problem with my AVG. (And AVG would say don't touch the files wouldn't they, they won't want you tampering with their program and potentially breaking their program regardless of whether its safe to do so)
  10. That should be most of it gone then, just let CCleaner get rid of the last remnants. Though when I removed NortonAV from this computer I did a search of all files and folders for Norton or Symantec and deleted what was found just to be certain, though only do that if you're certain you have no other Symantec or Norton products on your PC.
  11. Ok a simple question. I have a vague memory of reading that there is a performance gain to be had by running your computer in 16 bit colour mode instead of 32 bit, is there anything in this? i know there is supposed to be a performance gain using 16bit for gaming but what about everyday use?
  12. Definitely remove the Norton entries, Norton has a tendendy to leave lots of junk behind after uninstalling. You might also need to use one of the Norton removal tools to remove all traces. Refer to this post for tips and links for removing all traces of Norton: http://forum.ccleaner.com/index.php?showto...=Norton+removal
  13. Thats an interesting extension, might have to give it a try.
  14. I'll be sticking to the older version of eraser. Tried the new one a little while back and it had some issues. They may have been fixed but I'll stick with the one I know works ok - 5.7.

    Freeware!

And the rest!!! . As I posted elsewhere on the forum when I looked into this:
  16. The CCleaner beginners guide is at that internetrotsyourbrain site, maybe you've got that bookmarked.
  17. Improvements to product stability. Several security fixes: *Crashes with evidence of memory corruption (rv:1.8.0.7) *Popup-blocker cross-site scripting (XSS) *Frame spoofing using document.open() *RSA Signature Forgery *Concurrency-related vulnerability *Auto-Update compromise through DNS and SSL spoofing *JavaScript Regular Expression Heap Corruption
  18. Ok, tried a few more things: Tried Quicktime Alternative, that gave the same stuttery playback Tried VLC player, that wouldn't play the clips (wouldn't even play the ones already on my PC which I know are fine) Tried burning some clips onto another DVD and the same stuttery playback occurs when viewing them from the DVD. But once again I can copy them back to my PC and they work fine. Anyone? Would it be worth trying a different burner, even though CDBurnerXP has always worked fine for me, and if so can you recommend a reliable one.
  19. I have just recently got my first digital (photo) camera and have just tried to make a backup of my pics and video clips. I'm using CD BurnerXP Pro and backing up onto DVD-RW. It writes them all to the disc seemingly problem free and when I try to view my photos from the disc theres no problem. But if I try to watch the short video clips they are really stuttery, ie they pause briefly then jump every one or two seconds. The clips are Quicktime Movie format (.mov) and they stutter in both Quicktime and Real Player. I am pretty certain they are written to disc ok because for some strange reason, if I let a clip play through once it will then play completely fine the second time. Plus I can copy the clips from the DVD back to my computer and the copied clips will play fine then too. They just won't play properly when read from disc first time. Anyone any suggestions?
  20. Sounds good to me, would make it a little safer to use.
  21. Definitely one for buyers of the CD rewinder and wireless extension cable http://j-walk.com/other/wifispray/index.htm
  22. Yup, just noticed the same problem here
  23. Right, I now have another problem. After I flushed the icons one of the icons for a program I use has changed and now doesn't work as it should. I use a program called Folder Access to password protect a couple of folders. When the folder is locked it changes to a 'safe' icon but since flushing the icons it has changed to the control panel icon. This causes a major problem as when I right click it now it doesn't recognise it for what it is and doesn't give the context menu option of 'unlock folder'. And when I left click it, it should popup a box asking for the password but now it just takes me to the control panel. The only way to unlock the folder now is to open the Folder Access program and unlock it from within the program, which is a nuisance I tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling the program but that didn't help, also tried flushing the icons again just in case and this too didn't work. When the folder is unlocked it is the standard folder icon and I can right click it, go to properties and change the icon under the customise tab though that isn't helpful as the icon is correct when unlocked. But I can't do this if I right click the icon after locking the folder as when I open properties it only gives the general tab. Anyone any suggestions on how I might fix this?
  24. So it is generally accepted as being a reasonably good/safe trustworthy software then, I vaguely remember some doubts on here about it when it first appeared.
  25. No probs, helped me no end with recent reinstall so thought I'd pass it on (first time I've tested the restore ability of it and it worked a treat)
