  1. I hope someone can help with this as its really peeing me off. My Windows (XP Home) has started prompting me for a Username and password instead of the normal Welcome screen and automatic logon I've always used. I went to Control Panel>User Accounts>Change way users log on or off, and the 'Use the Welcome Screen' box IS ticked but it still gives the log on prompt at startup. I even tried unticking the Welcome Screen tickbox, restarting then reticking the box to see if that would encourage it to work but it didn't. I used to be able to start Windows without any prompt of any sort, just turned the computer on and Windows would startup so this is a nuisance. Tried system restore but this issue still persists. Also tried restoring an ERUNT reg backup but that also didn't work. Any ideas anyone? (please)

Don't mean to barge in but... 1)No (a misunderstanding methinks) 2)Yes
  3. Hmmm, well that was strange, the reinstall fixed it. And for some reason, the shield was already disabled after the install this time (did a clean reinstall) with the shield section stating 'Not available in free version' (though I've still gone and disabled it in services just to be sure). Oh well, all sorted now. Thanks for trying to help
  4. Damn, guess I'll have to try a reinstall.
  5. I disabled it as you say as soon as I installed it, it was the first thing I did as I used to have the ewidoctrl service disabled in the old version. I have checked and just checked again and it IS disabled but the greyed out icon still stays in the tray after closing Ewido. Like I said, I also have the guard disabled within the Ewido program and can't find any other settings that would have any effect on this
  6. You all seem to be misunderstanding what I'm saying. Just to emphasise, from my first post: I've got the guard turned off (in Ewido itself) and have disabled the Ewido Guard service (in services.msc). The tray icon is not there at startup. The irritation is that when I open Ewido the tray icon appears and stays in the tray after closing Ewido (I only updated to version 4 as the old one was giving an update nag screen )
  7. No, its not listed, its not set to run at startup and it doesn't. But every time I open Ewido it appears in the tray and stays there even after closing Ewido (have to right click the icon and exit it, very annoying)
  8. How do I stop the Ewido (version 4.0) tray icon from staying in the tray after I've closed the program? I've got it set not to start with Windows but every time I open Ewido the tray icon reappears and stays open even after I close the program. I've got the guard turned off and have disabled the Ewido Guard service disabled but the tray icon still persists after closing Ewido

Is there much difference in the amount of resources used between AVG and Avast (free versions) when just running in the background (ie not scanning)? And does AVG really miss that much, I've had hardly any viruses since using AVG but you've got me worried now that maybe its just missing them
  10. Its an open source freeware alternative to MS Office
  11. That way, by the time you get to the end you won't care
  12. Not neccesarily. Realsched.exe seems to add itself to startup every time you use Real Player (or at least it does here), regardless of having it set to not auto update. Having stopped Quick Time adding qttask to startup a long time ago by renaming it I tried the same with realsched.exe and that stopped it. Filepath to realsched.exe here (WinXP Home) is: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\Realsched I renamed it to RealschedOLD but rename it whatever, as long as its not Realsched it won't get put back in startup.
  13. Correct Andavari, really should have thought of that first. If you open Sygate and go to Tools>Options there is a tick box to 'Automatically load Sygate at startup' Apologies for not spotting the obvious
  14. Probably not the quickest way but I'd just reinstall it.
  15. I'm currently trialling that, not sure about the registry cleaner in it though, seems to find an awful lot, a large amount of which I don't think are safely deleteable. Just my opinion. Does have a few nice features but personally I wouldn't pay for it.
  16. I kinda like it but the top section is too bulky and bloated for my liking. Reduce the size of the CCleaner logo a bit and remove the links and it'd be spot on (IMHO)
  17. Any particular reason?
  18. That was the same with version 3.5 too wasn't it, with the ewidoctrl.exe process?
  19. So will I. What I meant was is there any functionality lost by upgrding from the old FREE version to the new free version?
  20. I'd 'third' that, something I requested a while back. Would agree with other comments about being off by default, also add it to the advanced section, with a warning, to avoid restore points being carelessly removed.
  21. I always have and, fingers crossed, have never had any problems but every system is different so let it create a backup before deletion and you should be ok.
  22. Hence the reason I suggested it
  23. How does that differ from the previous version, ie would I lose functionality by upgrading to the new freeware version?
  24. Why Sygate 5.5, is there a problem with 5.6 that I've not come across yet?
