  1. I didn't want to just open IE, I wanted a shortcut to a specific site. But that site (Kasperskys online scanner) only works in IE and every time I created an internet shortcut for it on my desktop it opened in Firefox because thats my default browser. So I needed to know how to create a shortcut to a specific site that went to that site using IE.
  2. Never mind, found the answer, was going about it the wrong way. In case anyones interested: Right-click a blank area of the desktop, New, Shortcut. The shortcut target: "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" Then, add a space and append the URL to the end, something like: "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" http://myserver/myapp (Isn't it always the same - always find the answer AFTER you've posted )
  3. Probably, but Site Advisor is referring to the site itself. Hardly a good way to build a reputation for your product though.
  4. McAfee Site Advisor says: Feedback from some users indicated this site engaged in one or more questionable activities - adware, spyware, or viruses (6)
  5. Is there any way to create an internet shortcut on desktop that opens in IE when Firefox is default browser?
  6. High praise indeed, I'm honoured
  7. Was that sarcasm? The anti-spyware program is still Ewido, just rebranded and with a few enhancements (from Ewido AFAIK). As for AVG AV I've never had any problems with it. Admittedly they went through a brief phase where update servers were slow/non-responsive but its been fine since, and most importantly I've never been infected with a virus as long as I've used it. 8. Have you tried running CCleaner in safe mode?
  9. There is no way for me to know what reg entries are safe to remove from your computer. Like I said, if you're in any doubt just leave it alone - having a few invalid reg entries will likely cause you no major problems at all, whereas potentially removing needed entries WILL probably cause problems. Its not worth the risk if you're uncertain.
  10. You haven't got the 'Close program after cleaning' option ticked have you? (Options>Advanced)
  11. Your suggestion would cause more harm than good IMO. One of the main positives of CCleaner is that its safe, and putting it in the advanced section would make little difference as we keep getting posts on here from new users who tick all including the advanced section. At the moment this doesn't cause major problems, but if your suggestions were included they could cause some pretty substantial problems.
  12. I tried TuneUp for the trial period and the reg cleaner is very thorough, which is not neccessarily a good thing. Advice about how to clean your registry - be VERY careful what you delete and if in doubt leave it (I recently did a scan with Regseeker and it found over 600 entries - there was only about 30 that I felt were safe to delete).
  13. Most (if not all) should be safe to delete anyway. I've always removed everything it finds and never had any problems with the issues scanner. What entries have you got that you feel aren't safe to remove? EDIT: Just checked and you can right click and deselect all
  14. From one of the Ewido team on the Wilders forum thread: "It's definitely recommended to switch to AVG Anti-Spyware... There have been many bug fixes and small improvements as well as new things like the clean driver for cleaning persistant malware." Though having read through the Wilders thread there does seem to be one or two bugs (including no help files ATM apparently), so I will be holding off for a few days before upgrading to the new one. I guess thats to fit in with AVGs version numbering as AVG anti-virus is currently on version 7.
  15. Looks like you've lost it then
  16. It only overwrites what it cleans if you have secure file deletion in CCleaners settings. If you have deleted it securely the document is almost certainly gone. If you haven't already tried it give Avira's free unerase tool which is the best IMO: http://www.free-av.com/antivirclassic/avira_unerase.html
  17. I think the easiest way to do it is to rename the entry you've copied to winapp2. In the square brackets at the top of the entry is the name that will appear in CCleaners applications section so if you change it to something like Office XP Modified (or anything you want), then when you open CCleaner you will have TWO Office tickboxes - the original and the winapp2 entry that you renamed. Then you can just tick the modified entry and untick the original one. Hope that makes sense
  18. Aren't you missing one of the other possible causes:
  19. Excellent post Andavari, I'll be keeping a copy of that for future reference BTW is that Total Uninstall good for everyday install and uninstall of programs, been meaning to try it out and never got round to it?
  20. Hopefully MrG will pop in and give us a definitive answer to this (and why it is as it is)
  21. Dunno about Regcure but no need to pay for a program like that, besides you have to be ever so careful with reg cleaners. Stick to CCleaners issues scanner, a much safer alternative IMO. I assume 'xtspyse' is a typo as a Google search brings up no results, though it doesn't ring any bells even as a typo.
  22. Um, the pop up blocker is just blocking the login popup isn't it? Haven't used IE for a long time now but can you left or right click on where it says a popup has been blocked and allow popups for that site. Did you install the Yahoo Toolbar with CCleaner, this would explain why that has suddenly started happening. Click Start, go to control panel, click on 'Add/Remove programs, find the Yahoo toolbar in the list and uninstall it It sounds like theres a couple of problems going on with the other issues, probably not CCleaners fault though (we'll still provide as much help as possible though, and post a HJT log as Hazel suggested)
  23. Apologies if this sounds like a silly question but have you ticked the 'Custom files and folders' tickbox in the advanced section of the cleaner tab?
  24. Maybe thats just the way CCleaner is programmed, so that it needs a reboot to properly clear the user assist history. Just because it works differently to another program doesn't mean theres something wrong with it.
