  1. Theres a good backup extension for Firefox too which worked like a dream when I recently had to do a complete reinstall due to corrupt profile - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2109/

    360 vs PS3

And that article's not at all biased . (on a side note the article would have a little more credence if you provided the source) I really don't see why you get so irate about it. It is what it is, does it really matter whether its not as good as a 'supercomputer'? (which is a completely irrelevant comparison IMO)
  3. I just clicked the TweakUI option to remove the shortcut arrows and it knackered all my icons. Shame as I would really like that Nope, tried that, only a system restore would fix it. Very annoying.
  4. Funnily enough I had a problem with Firefox not being properly recognised as the default browser yesterday, despite it telling me it was. Fixed quite simply here just by changing my default browser to IE, then back to Firefox. Might be worth a try. Have a look through these links if that doesn't work: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.ph...2351524#2351524 http://kb.mozillazine.org/Setting_Your_Default_Browser
  5. I just tried TweakUI to get rid of the arrow on shortcut icons and it broke all my icons, they all went kind of 8 bit looking (I have display set to 16 bit). If I went to control panel>display and changed my display to 32 bit the icons displayed properly. But as soon as I change back to 16 bit they all go crappy looking again (could only fix it with a system restore) Any idea why its doing this? I have tried a couple more times but it does this every time (using WinXP Home)
  6. Only a minor update but I know some here use Firetune so thought I'd let you know of the new version (1.1.2): http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4534.html Changelog: A few internal optimizations and performance improvements Updated language files and corrections
  7. Exactly. The download page states you'll get spam plus its clearly has an adware/spyware element - a quick Eulalyser scan flags up the following in the license agreement (I'm surprised Kapersky agreed to this use of it): You must not "block, disable, or otherwise effect any advertising, advertisement banner window, tabs, links to other sites and services" "Your APS Product information may include registration-related information (such as your e-mail addresses); information about how you use the Software, as well as your responses to offerings and advertisements presented through the Software" "Your APS Product information may be use to personalize the content and advertisements you receive" You must not "block, disable, or otherwise effect any advertising, advertisement banner window, tabs, links to other sites and services" "As a condition for your use of the Software, you agree to receive promotions and periodic e-mail messages from us and our Affiliates."
  8. Correction, its completely ballsed up my Firefox as it won't save ANY of my settings now
  9. Hmmm, used Restoration and it found similar recoverable data to what TuneUp did. Seemingly all stuff that should have been securely deleted by CCleaner - cookies, temp internet files, web images etc. I have CCleaner set to overwrite 3 times which I know isn't the most secure but for the last few months I've been using Eraser (set to overwrite 3 times too) instead of right click>delete and it didn't seem to find any files that I had erased using Eraser. (On the down side I tried Restorations securely delete all restoreable files and it caused all manner of problems on my computer, Firefox was broke, internet wouldn't connect. Luckily a system restore fixed most of the problems it seems though Firefox lost all its settings so having to go through everything to try to get FF back to how I like it. Won't be using that again ) Sooo, does the secure delete function in CCleaner actually work? I know its a relatively new, additional feature to the program and I'm not being at all critical, would just like to know/understand.
  10. I tried the free trial of TuneUp Utilities and noticed the same thing. Just assumed it had maybe recovered just the file names and the files themselves were in a bad state but can't say for certain as i didn't look into it any further I'm afraid.
  11. Its officially out now, just got the Firefox update popup
  12. Nice cut and paste, at least credit Krit with the post I may be wrong but I don't think he was referring to cleaning the registry on other computers, just cleaning the crap. I vaguely remember this being discussed before and I don't think its easily possible.
  13. Will probably be released officially tonight or tomorrow, sites like Softpedia, File Hippo usually get a version of it a day early. Strange that theres another release so soon, 1.5.0.5 was only released last week IIRC. Must have been buggy (been fine here though)
  14. I did that too when I first started using the custom folders cleaning, and I knew about the tick box!
  15. That will be a Google ad then. Just because the advert is on a site you trust does NOT mean the advert is trustworthy. I think you'll find most reg fixers you have to pay for will tell you its found errors, then you have to pay for it to fix them. Stick with the advice above and just use the CCleaner issues tab, the registry is far too easy to screw up by using an over aggressive tool.
  16. (deleted due to being stupid )
  17. Well you learn something new everyday Is this a bug with Firefox?
  18. Personally I would say that generally they don't, though there are some that can cause slowdown as rridgely says. BTW I have 24 and have no problems (I have tried slimming them down but they're just too damn useful )
  19. I use the Try Again Firefox extension, automatically reloads the page and usually brings the page up correctly at first attempt in my experience.
  20. I much prefer CCleaner to be on the cautious side of reg cleaning. I have tried some more aggressive (but supposedly safe) reg cleaners and have been scared by the amount of stuff they find, alot of which clearly is best left alone.
  21. Its here: http://www.win-rar.com/bestoverallutility/
  22. I'm a bit of a 7-zip fan too, opens everything I throw at it and has never let me down. Has Winrar got any advantages over 7-zip?
