  1. Also, please update to SP3 as support for SP2 will end very soon (July 13th).
  2. Too bad they don't report the "bitness" of the infected computers. PatchGuard is supposed to fight rootkits by disallowing any kernel patch, so theoretically it is much more difficult to write an x64 rootkit.
  3. Only requirement : Patience, as it seems their servers have a lot of visits right now. More info here
  4. Since lots of software (IE, Windows Live Essentials, Paint.NET, ...) are stopping XP support (i.e. no future versions will work in XP), there will be a lot of things, in some time. Also, XP can't do a LOT of things, but many of them are programmer-oriented, or only apply on recent computers (e.g. XP can't properly use gigabytes of RAM, nor SSDs, nor multi-core CPUs).
  5. Sorry, but - that's nonsense. Unless you have rock-solid evidence.

    NTFS and MFT

PerfectDisk can do boot-time defrags on all disks
  7. Files named with ZZZ are files overwritten by CCleaner's Wipe Free Space thing.

Download a trial version of a paid defragmenter like PerfectDisk or Diskeeper, and do a boot-time defrag. Then uninstall it.
  9. Yes, but some people prefer to use an old OS than to completely change their habits - especially given the quality of FOSS apps vs. paid ones, like OOo and MSO.
  10. Unless you are using a really old (i.e. > 10 years old) computer, 7 will run fine on it. http://g.imagehost.org/view/0334/06072009424
  11. Wrong. The files are renamed. However, to see that you must be using another explorer as Windows Explorer.
  12. One of the Macs advantage is that since they're not in a monopoly, they can include whatever they want in their OS. Same goes for Ubuntu. Microsoft can't even include a media player without being sued
  13. In Firefox on Windows, I can simply make the menu bar disappear - because I use Personal Menu which allows me to have the commands I actually use into one button. That saves some vertical space. On a Mac...I can't do that. The menu bar is still there, even though I don't use it. Same goes for Office - if you look at the early screens of Office 2011, the Ribbon makes the menu bar useless...but since there's no way to hide it, some vertical space is used for nothing (well, for the Menu bar, but it's useless since there already is the Ribbon which is much better IMHO). As for security...well...just read page 44 of that PDF to see that OS X has three times the vulnerabilities Windows has. The last update, 10.6.3, fixed 82 security flaws. That means nearly four times the vulnerabilities Win7 has...and it's only a minor update. Also, you may want to take a look at Charlie Miller's opinion on the matter. He's the guy who won the Pwn2Own contest hacking Safari three times in a row.
  14. Well, for me, an OS in which I can't even hit "y" to answer "Yes" in a prompt is not polished at all. I don't find OS X intuitive - I really hate the menu bar on top (especially since apps like Office, Chrome, Firefox, etc. are replacing it, so it's just wasted space), and I find the Dock really annoying - you must look carefully to know which programs are open and which programs aren't, and you can't directly see the window titles. That's also why I dislike Win7's SuperBar. And, seriously, Apple needs to learn what "security" means.
  15. Why do you think OS X is more polished ? Last time I checked, it was still impossible to navigate using the keyboard on a simple Yes/No/Cancel dialog. Not really what I'd call "polished"
  16. Hit Windows key + Pause/Break key on your keyboard. Choose "Advanced system settings" Click the button in the "Performance" category In the "Advanced" tab, click the "Change" button Select "No paging file" Click the "Set" button, and click OK Reboot Go back to the dialog you just quit, and chose "Custom size" For both the "Initial size" and "Maximum size", type 2560 Click the "Set" button, and click OK Reboot That should "defrag" the pagefile. I recomment 2560 because it is 10*2^8 - i.e. a computer-friendly size near the one you currently have.
  17. That'd be a tool, I think. It's really useful when an uninstall or install goes wrong (like Office 2010's Technical Preview).
  18. Something like Windows Installer Clean Up ? That'd be awesome.
  19. I'd say weekly. However, you might not want to tick your browser's "Cookies" checkbox. And don't - ever - Wipe Free Space.

    Minefield

The end result will be something like this : https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox/4.0_Windows_Theme_Mockups
  21. Post the URL of the video you are trying to watch here - that way we'll see if you're the only one who has problems with it. Also, please update Flash Player, latest is 10.0.45.2 : ActiveX control for IE, and NPAPI one for Firefox and other browsers

    x64 version?

An x64 CCleaner would be much more effective in the Registry cleaning. Currently it can't access HKLM\Software, only HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node.
