  1. I would have thought that having to select Continue, rather than making it default, would be an extra safety step in the warning? TBH if you tick that "Do not show this message again" then it doesn't ask at all and you don't have to even press Enter everytime.
  2. There is lots of information out there. But as a quick answer - Probably not. Your devices have to be WiFi 6 capable as well as the router. So unless you have a lot of WiFi 6 enabled devices connected you won't see any difference. It's like 4G/5G for mobile phones, If you phone is only 3G capable then it can't connect to 4G or 5G and so will still use 3G.
  3. Iagree with Nergal, it shouldn't really be in the (x86) directory but I don't think that is your main issue. What you report is typical of having an AntiVirus programme that is not up to date. In those cases CCleaner will run once from the installer, but then can't be launched again. We've seen this quite often and one of the signs is that the last version of CCleaner that is able to run in those circumstances is CCleaner version 64, later CCleaner versions get blocked by the out of date AntiVirus. This is because of various (security) changes that were made to CCleaner at that time which the out of date AV's don't recognise. Trend Micro 2019 and Comodo Internet Security Premium v.12.0.6818 are two that are known to have this problem, but other AVs can also have the same issue. Both will report that they are up to date if checked from within the AV itself, but there are newer versions available from the makers website. Once the newer version is manually downloaded/installed the issue goes away. Which AntiVirus are you using, and what version number is it? Go to the AV makers website and check what the latest version is there. (For instance Trend Micro 2019 will say that it's up to date, but the latest is Trend Micro 2020 which you sometimes have to get manually from the website).
  4. Just to note if anyone else is having this problem that it may not be CCleaner. There is a known bug in Windows 10 2004 that can log some users out of apps and websites, even Microsofts own apps like Mail, Calendar, and One Drive. Microsoft are investigating but there is no fix for it yet. https://www.windowslatest.com/2020/09/05/microsoft-is-investigating-windows-10-login-credentials-bug/ Thanks go to Hazelnut for bring this to attention.
  5. It depends- How big is the drive, how fragmented is it, how fast is your computer, are you defragging files or consolidating the disc, etc. Defraging files is the quicker of the two. Consolidating a large drive (1 TB or above) will take a long time. Confusingly Consolidating is also usually referred to as defragmentinging, so you have to know which of the two you are actually doing. See this for more info of the different "Defrag" types - Defrag or Consolidate, Defraggler can do either or both depending on how you use it:
  6. Yes, I'm on Win10 2004 so the tray will look slightly different. TBH It would have been easier just to turn Smart Cleaning off in CCleaner.
  7. You mean a CCleaner Icon in the System Tray at the bottom right of your screen similar to this: That is 'Smart Cleaning' which launches at boot and runs in the background. Go to Options>Smart Cleaning if you want to turn it off.
  8. Well as I noted above, a few months back those with Trend Micro 2019 were having the same problem with CCleaner versions above v5.64 not running. TM 2019 wasn't offering them the update to TM 2020 so they had to go to the website and manually update, as soon as they did that CCleaner ran as expected again. It's your choice of course, but I'm just pointing out that your Comodo may take a long time to get updated unless you do it yourself. (TBH I'd always update an Antivirus as soon as I could to make sure that I had the latest protections). If you don't want to manually update Comodo then another option to try would be to make CCleaner an exception in your current Comodo. (You may have to do that for each new CCleaner version though).
  9. Which was when Health Check was rolled out to all users, hence my suspicion that there could be a link.
  10. Yes, we all see that double entry thing now and again and it is seemingly random. We used to see the same entry on two consecutive lines (so for example you would get 2 'Internet Cache' on adjoining lines). - Unlike your screenshot which is repeating the same list twice. I guess that change means that the developers are working on it but haven't pinned down what is causing it yet? It makes no real difference to the cleaning, it's just a display glitch. (My own thought, which may be wrong, is that it only started happening when Health Check was rolled out so may be a related display glitch).
  11. Maybe Quick Access is considered akin to the Taskbar in the MS devolpers scheme of things? If you think about it both do give quicker access to launch things so it may make sense overall.
  12. Are you using Health Check? If you use Custom Clean instead then you can untick 'Internet History' for Firefox and CCleaner will then leave it alone. The ticks/unticks that you can set in Custom Clean are only used by Custom Clean, Health Check ignores them and always does it own thing. To change which method CCleaner uses as the default go to Otions>Settings and change the 'CCleaner Home Screen'.
  13. If you are using Health Check then it will always log you out of them by clearing their cookies. You need to use Custom Clean instead of Health Check and tell it not to clear any cookies, or set 'Cookies to Keep' for the particular site(s) that you want to stay logged into. See here for more details: https://www.ccleaner.com/docs/ccleaner/ccleaner-settings/choosing-which-cookies-to-keep
  14. Presumably you are downloading the Portable versions from the official 'Builds' page, and not getting it from elsewhere? As said usually if CCleaner won't run then it's an AV stopping it in 99% of cases, which is why it's always the first suggestion to make sure that the AV is up to date. (Which is always a good idea anyway). Older AV versions may not get all the definition/signature updates that the latest version does. In this case you don't have the latest version of Comodo Internet Security Premium, so I would suggest that you update. The latest version is 12.2.2.7036, released on 21 April 2020. https://forums.comodo.com/news-announcements-feedback-cis/comodo-internet-security-2020-v12227036-released-t125668.0.html
  15. It may be you Antivirus that is stopping newer versions of CCleaner from running. (We see it quite a bit). Which Antivirus are you using? (And which Windows 10 version, 2004,1909,1903, etc?) If it's not Windows Defender then make sure that your Antivirus is up to date. Tip- Don't just 'Check for Updates' in the AV itself, go to the makers website and check what the latest version is there. (For instance Trend Micro 2019 will say that it's up to date, but the latest is Trend Micro 2020 which you sometimes have to get from the website).
  16. The servers are sometimes unreachable, either because of something at the server or something with your broadband provider. It's connecting OK for me in the UK at the moment so try again. You can still clean junk from your computer without that connection, the connection(s) is/are used to check your automatic startup items against a list, and to check if there are any updates for some of your other installed apps. The clean will still run fine without those two checks. If you can't connect at all (say you still can't connect tomorrow) then it's usually an Antivirus/Firewall setting that is blocking the connection. Certain AVs are worse for doing it than others, which AV are you using? In any case make sure that your Antivirus is up to date. Tip- Don't just 'Check for Updates' in the AV itself, go to the website and check what the latest version is there. (For instance Trend Micro 2019 will say that it's up to date, but the latest is Trend Micro 2020 which you have to get from the website). EDIT. I took another look at your screenshot (it's a bit hard to see) and I see that the first of the two checks I mention above has been carried out. Which means that it's only the check for updates to other installed apps that has not been done, which suggests it is probably an issue with that particular server so should be fixed in time (May have been fixed already).
  17. Those Avast reg entries look like simple datestamps for when Avast/CCleaner last offered you some bundled software. When the installer offers you something else (AVG, Avast, CCleaner Browser, etc) it sets a datestamp like that so that if you install/update within a certain time it reads when you last had an offer and can say 'they had an offer only XXX ago, don't show another one yet'. Before messing about with the working ramdisk setup I think I would try an 'Advanced' install of CCleaner, and on the second advanced screen make sure that it is being installed on your system drive rather than the ramdisk.
  18. If you read the options being discussed here they clearly say they are options for offers/upgrades to 'our other products' and '3rd-party products'. They are not options for CCleaner itself, and certainly not about licensing. Plus as Dave CCleaner pointed out above they are not even supposed to be there yet, they are there by mistake and at the moment do nothing if/when selected.
  19. The "Trial has ended" entries in the log seem to be showing that you did have a Pro trial at sometime, but that's not really important. 'CCleaner.dat' will not exist unless you have a pro licence so it would be a normal thing to see those lines at the start of the debug log. (You would also see 'branding.dll' in the CCleaner folder if you had a Pro licence). I'm no expert at the debug logs, but what you have there seems normal as far as it goes. The problem with truncated logs is that they show what has happened and you have to know what should be next that didn't happen, which can be different on different setups. I'm not sure, but anything out of the ordinary on a users setup is always something to suspect as a cause of an issue, especially if the app being used can't find it. I do know that some users have had some odd problems with BitDefender and CCleaner installs. Have a read down from this post from last month: https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/58734-ccleaner-56907865/?tab=comments#comment-321996 Another moderator has already elevated this thread for the staff to have a look at, but I'll give it a bump. In the meantime: I've seen similar 'hangs' a few times before when CCleaner is used for the first time on a computer that's been in use for a while. It's usually simply because there is helluva lot to be cleaned that first time round. Although that doesn't seem to be the case here you may want to try the following. In each browser that you use run the browsers own inbuilt cleaning to start with. Then run Windows Disk Clean-up, selecting 'Clean up system files'. (Which will take a long time). Then try CCleaner to see if the blockage has been cleared. You should only need to do that big clean once then CCleaner should run normally without hangs. TBH though I suspect that it's the redirect to the RAMdisk that may be causing the issue.
  20. It looks like you have had a trial version of Pro which has expired, and for some reason it is now not allowing the Free version to be installed. Try uninstalling the CCleaner that is currently on your machine, restarting the computer (Restart not shutdown), and then downloading the 'Slim' installer (3rd one down) from here and reinstalling. https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds You say you have already done that, but did you do the Restart? Just a question if that doesn't work, which AntiVirus are you using and is it up to date?
  21. I've got an old 'Lemmings' CD for Win95 - I tried it for a laugh and it still runs perfectly on Win10.
  22. Good to hear that your computer is working again, and that it is was as we suspected a "simple" failed drive. Also good to hear that your technician friend managed to recover your files from the failed drive. As said above the drive was failing anyway, it's just happend to finally give up the ghost when you booted/restarted that time. Booting is not an unusual time for a disc to give up the ghost, booting accesses the drive a lot. (To continue my car engine analogy- Often the time a component fails and the car stops working is when you try to start it). Without getting too technical: Hard Drives do fail after time, just like any other piece of equipment. The moving parts wear out for one thing Three to five years is the average lifetime for a Hard Drive, although some can last a lot longer (and some last less). It depends on the drive itself and how much you use it. Which is why it is important to regularly backup your files to a different, (external), drive; for important work files backup daily at least and probably more often than that. https://blog.archiware.com/blog/how-long-does-a-hard-drive-last/ Many (more technicaly minded) make a regular full 'Mirror' or 'Clone' of their hard drives, so that when (not if) it fails they have a full backup of everything including the operating system and all their installed apps as well as just their files. https://uk.pcmag.com/how-to/117218/how-to-clone-a-hard-drive It's your choice of course if you personally believe that CCleaner caused your issue. But believe us when we say that the drive would have failed anyway; even if you didn't have CCleaner on the machine at all. And your new drive will not last forever. (Ask your technician friend). CCleaner does not corrupt drives, if it did then there would not be millions of people using it daily worldwide.
  23. Indeed, but there was a redirect if you had the old 'forum.piriform.com' address saved in your favourites/bookmarks. It's that redirect that has been removed during the forum software upgrade.
  24. It's all to do with the update to the Invision software that the forum is hosted on, Invision started doing it earlier today. You'll notice a few differences, at least for a while.
  25. I'm afraid that I have to agree with APMichael, If the Dell recovery gets 'stuck', and Windows recovery cannot even start, then this does look like a hardware failure problem - and most probably a failed disc drive. As I said above these failures do happen and do tend to happen during software updates, or when doing a defragment, or anything else disc intensive. (It's a bit like a car engine that's fine when only going to the shop and back, but breaks down if/when you go on a longer journey). From the fact that it first happened to you at a boot I'd suspect that maybe Windows was trying to install an Automatic Update? I'm afraid that it looks like it's repair shop time if you are not confident about fitting a new disc drive yourself. At least new drives a fairly cheap these days, and with luck the shop may be able to recover your files off the failed disc if you haven't backed them up elsewhere.
