  1. It just removes it from that list in CCleaner. It's been noted before that those buttons can be confusing and nobody seems quite sure why the 'Delete' button is there. (Presumably for if you think you would never want to uninstall something so don't want to see it on that list?) We've suggested in the past that it be renamed to 'Remove from this list' or scrapped altogether. You can still use the Windows uninstaller to uninstall the app you don't want.

I tried your attachment with a few 'PDF repairers', both online and downloaded/installed. Results varied from a blank page, through the aforementioned weather icon as a .png, to multiple partial pages. This one seemed to do the best of the ones I tried, it showed 14 partial pages and a list of all the errors it had encountered. https://www.pdf-online.com/osa/repair.aspx I still couldn't get it to open in Adobe Reader after being 'repaired', but at least it shows you just what the errors in the file are. Maybe running through more than one 'repairer' could finally get something useable or at least openable?
  3. OK, the fact that you have a downloaded CCleaner from the genuine site is good. If there was a problem with CCleaner v5.69 itself slowing computers down and freezing them like you describe then we would have hundreds shouting about it here. Which means that your slowing down issue is something else. (No doubt if you uninstall CCleaner completely your machine will still slow down/freeze). The first suspects for what you describe would be malware, or possibly a 'memory leak'. Firstly I would check Hazelnut's link and make sure you Malwarebyted is the latest version. There have been some issues with MB4 and Windows 10 v2004. Whilst we are not allowed to give detailed malware removal help on this forum we can give basics of using existing apps, and point you to further help if needed. As you say that ADWcleaner stops it happening for a while then that indicates that it is a PUP or adware of some kind. (It would be interesting, but not important here, to know exactly what ADW says it has found, I'd suspect a bitcoin miner but it could be something else). And as ADW is fixing it temporarily, but then it comes back, I suspect that whatever it is may be being re-synced from your browser. If you have browser syncing enabled then turn it off for now. You will then have to clear the contents of your synced files (or just the offending file if you can identify it) from your browsers sync-server, use google to find how to do that for your particular browser. Then run ADWcleaner to clear the infection from your machine again - we already know that it can do that. Restart (not shut down and reboot) your machine, (or let ADW do it for you). The issue should now have been solved. Once you are sure that it's gone then you can turn browser syncing back on if wanted. To help prevent it happening again. If you have Chrome (or a Chromium based browser, including the new Edge) or Firefox I suggest that you also add Malwarebytes Browser Guard to your current Malwarbytes Premium and Malwarebytes ADWcleaner. MBG is free and runs real time in your browser to help protect against nasties in the browser itself, it can be used on it's own or to add to Malwarebytes Premium browser protection. https://www.malwarebytes.com/browserguard/ If the above has still not cleared the problem then I suggest that you go to the Malwarebytes forum and get one of their malware removal experts to check over your machine for free. They do give detailed one-to-one help there, start here and follow the instructions carefully: https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/9573-im-infected-what-do-i-do-now/ Let us know how you get on.
  4. I'm concerned when you say you are using ADWcleaner to 'defrost' CCleaner and reboot - It gives me a suspicion that you may not be downloading the genuine CCleaner. ADWcleaner removes PUPs, Adware, and manufacturer pre-installed bloat. It doesn't remove the genuine CCleaner, nor would it close a running genuine CCleaner. Which begs the question of just where you are downloading CCleaner from? If you are not downloading from the official site then you may have something else (malware/adware) that is masquerading as the genuine CCleaner. (And your description of the way it is slowing your computer also points to some kind of malware/adware). In which case it is highly likely that running ADWcleaner would quarantine whatever it is, and would then require a reboot to fully remove it. (The fact that it then comes back may be because you have your browser synced?). Malwarebytes Premium would not catch it running unless it tried to interfere with your operating system or files, it might find it as adware with a scan but might not. That's one reason why ADWcleaner exists; to find different (less nasty) things from MB Premium. However I would still run a manual scan with Malwarebytes if I was you. If you are downloading CCleaner from the official site then having to use ADWcleaner indicates that something else is causing the slowdown and CCleaner freezing is a symptom rather than the cause. If you can confirm where you are downloading CCleaner from we can work from there on how to cure your problem.
  5. As you have downloaded more than one installer then that would seem to rule out any problem with it being an incomplete download. Turning the AV's off would rule out their interfering. The next thing I would try is to boot into Safe Mode and see if CCleaner will install from there. (Or Safe Mode with Networking to do a fresh download). https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/12376/windows-10-start-your-pc-in-safe-mode If that still doesn't work (or even if it does) then you may have a media error. (Corrupt entries in the MFT?, Bad sectors on the disk?) In which case running chkdsk will find and fix any problems with the file system and/or disc. Use it from the command prompt to automaticaly fix errors file system errors in Windows 10 (/f), and to scan for bad sectors (/r). It's not a bad idea to run chkdsk every couple of months or so as general maintenance, even if you are not experiencing any issues. If you are unfamiliar with using chkdsk then this tell you what you need to know, (the link says Vista but it's been updated), scroll down for how to use it from a command prompt. https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/guide-to-using-check-disk-in-windows-vista/
  6. Please explain just what is happening / what you are seeing. It also helps to say which Windows version you have and which antivirus you are using. Also if you are using Health Check or Custom Clean in CCleaner, and if you have used the Registry Cleaner at all.
  7. The server is back up and working again for me here. Please try your Health Check again.
  8. Yes the server is currently showing as offline for me as well. It may be down for an update or maintenance, but I'll give the staff a shout just in case it's a bigger problem. PS. they did know what the problem was with the incorrect message - it was simply as stated, an incorrect message being shown, and it was corrected at the next version. (It should have said '0 apps to update' but the code was pointing to the wrong message). And yes - Software Updater should currently be showing a message saying 'Unable to reach server' rather than saying you are 'Offline'. (Health Check correctly says 'Unable to reach server') Although in the end it's the same result and you can't currently connect to that server someone really needs to check the message links in the code. Edit - The staff have replied and are looking at why the server is currently not responding, hopefully it's a quick fix.
  9. Please contact support with your request and they will be happy to help you. There is a contact form here: https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/requests/new Or you can email them: support@ccleaner.com Obviously we can't discuss individual licences on this open forum for privacy and security.
  10. Happy to help, that's why we are here. TBH Health Check is (fairly) new, it's meant for less technically minded users who simply want a quick safe clean without having to learn or bother about any settings. That is why it's the default screen for a new installation of CCleaner, so that it's there 'straight out of the box'. Obviously because of that lack of being able to change the things that Health Check does it is more limited than Custom Clean. Until fairly recently Custom Clean, with the seperate Tools, was CCleaner. One recommendation - Stay away from the Registry Cleaner, especially if you have Windows 10. It's an Advanced tool to help fix computers and should not be run unless absolutely needed, if used on a healthy machine it can stop a computer working properly or working at all. Here is what Microsoft have to say: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/2563254/microsoft-support-policy-for-the-use-of-registry-cleaning-utilities
  11. Whilst there may be other reasons for that error, (incomplete download, damaged media), that error is often a signing/certification glitch. It can take some Antivirus and other protection products a bit of time to get theirpermissions updated with the new version. (And it seems to take some of them a bit longer in these days of Covid and working from home, CCleaner v5.68 had that issue with certain AV's taking time to update and allow it to install). Which antivirus are you using? And which Windows version? You could try downloading again just in case it was an incomplete download. Download either the Standard installer or Slim (no offers) installer from here: https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds (EDIT- Posted at the same time as Dave).
  12. The two features in Health Check that are Pro version only are the counterparts of two tools that can also be seen on the 'Tools' button (When they also need Pro to function fully). 'Speed' is the HC equivalent of the 'Startup' tool. 'Security' is the HC equivalent of the 'Software Updater' tool. Both tools will work partialy in the free version by analyzing what could be changed/updated, but you need the Pro version to make the changes/updates from within CCleaner itself. Using the tools from the Tools button will give more information than is displayed by Health Check, so that you can then make the changes/updates yourself outside of CCleaner should you want to. I think that you may be more comfortable using the Custom Clean rather than Health Check. Health Check runs those tools every scan, so reminds you everytime if you don't have the Pro version. Custom Clean does not run those tools so you don't even see them. (You run them seperately from the Tools menu if/when you want to), Custom Clean also gives you more control of what is cleaned or not by ticking/unticking the boxes. (Health Check always uses it's own rules and so ignores those ticks/unticks). To set Custom Clean as the default cleaning method go to Options>settings and change the CCleaner Home Screen.
  13. Clearing a cache is not the same thing as killing explorer to rebuild a cache at all. You can ask but I doubt that killing explorer will be included in CCleaner, it's just not part of what CCleaner is meant to do.
  14. I believe that he is simply refering to the notifications in the Free version (and on the installer page) to upgrade to Pro. @jckingjk That is the (very small) price you pay for being able to use a working Free version of Pro software. Any Free version of Pro software, from any company, will give you such notifications when you are using their Free version. Remember that they don't have to provide a working version that you can use for free, so a little advertising of their Pro version is expected.
  15. It could easily be done. It is done by repair apps, such as you say, but CCleaner is not a repair app. I for one wouldn't like CCleaner to kill the explorer process each time it is run. And can you imagine the reactions of a non-techie user if their screen blanked out each time they ran CCleaner?
  16. I believe it's similar to a corrupted recycle bin which we see quite often. CCleaner can wipe them, but they are still corrupted and just repopulate the corrupted entries again. You have to delete the corrupted cache totally and let Windows rebuild it. (Which is probably what that other app is doing but that takes longer to rebuild than just wiping, and as you note it usually involves killing explorer which you wouldn't want CCleaner to do everytime).
  17. As you originally removed the trojan with Malwarebytes then I also suggest that you have their removal experts check your machine over for free. Running Malwarebytes (or anything else) may not be enough on it's own, some things hide deep which is why they have the free extra help service. Start here and follow the instructions: https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/9573-im-infected-what-do-i-do-now/ They will take you through it step-by-step and remove anything that the trojan left behind, and anything else that may be malicious, to make sure that your machine is totally clean.
  18. That is a Windows error message, so it is something that has been changed in Win7 that is now preventing CCleaner from installing. Hazelnut may have hit the nail on the head if AVG tuneup has altered your Windows settings/permissions. The next step would be if you have a System Restore Point from before you ran AVG tuneup then you could restore that to try and undo any changes that AVG made. (Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> system restore) One thing to try first though, if you haven't already from the link I gave above. You don't say what antivirus you are using, is that also AVG and what you disabled/uninstalled in your first post? If not then whatever AV you are using try disabling it and then installing CCleaner.
  19. CCleaner can clean the files on your device, but it can't clean anything that is on a cloud server like iCloud. I'll say now that I'm not a Mac user so not familiar with iCloud. Is it likely that CCleaner is cleaning the files on your machine and they are then being re-synced back from the cloud server? If that is the case then you would need to use iCloud itself to delete the files from the server. You may have an app that is already doing this automatically after a set time, which could explain why sometimes they are still there - until they are deleted and stop being synced back? Maybe something like the app described here? https://www.copytrans.net/blog/apple-icloud-storage-is-full-7-tips-on-how-to-clear-icloud-storage/#icloud-drive
  20. Try the suggestions given here: https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/5739-solution-when-ccleaner-wont-install-or-download-windows/ Could you screenshot the error message and attach it to your next post? PS. You shouldn't be getting any install error with the portable version - it doesn't install anything.
  21. Was the power inturrupted, or the free space wipe stopped unexpectedly for any reason? Can you simply delete the "FREESPACEERASE" file? I'm not sure about a SD card, but we do ocassionally see a similar problem with hard drives if the free space wipe is stopped unexpectedly - and I don't think it would be any different with a card. See this for more information of why this can happen: https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/56968-lost-200gb-of-free-space/?tab=comments#comment-315590
  22. Unfortunately there are very few Mac users on the forum, so it may be a while before someone can help here. If you have CCleaner Pro then you are best raising a ticket with support. There is a contact form here: https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/requests/new Or you can email them: support@ccleaner.com
  23. CCleaner would/should not be cleaning your download folder. (Unless you had specifically made it an include). There is no setting in CCleaner for it because it doesn't do it. I would suspect that if you have not run another cleaner the it is Windows itself that has cleared the Downloads. Disc Clean-up has a tickbox for the Downloads folder, but Storage Sense would be my bet. When turned on Storage sense runs automatically either when needed or however many days you have set - and it will clear Downloads unless it is set to never do that. Edit. Here's a coincidence. I've been fixing and updating a laptop today, taking it from Win10 1607 to 1909, and as I was looking through the drivers a notification popped up to tell me that Windows had kindly turned on Storage Sense for me. (Whether I wanted it on or not).
  24. It depends just how you have run the defrag. There are 2 different methods depending on what results you are looking to get and by default Defraggler does a combination of both, but it can be set to do either/or. The issue is that the word 'Defragmenting' is inaccurately used to mean two different things, two things which are mutually exclusive. Getting each file into one contiguous piece, rather than split across clusters. (So that they load marginally faster). Getting all the files into as small a storage space as possible. (To give more free clusters on the disc). The first is 'Defragmenting' and means that some clusters on the disc will inevitably have some unused space. The second is correctly termed 'Consolidation', and means fragmenting some files to 'pack them all in' to the available clusters. Consolidation takes much longer, especially on todays (multi) TB drives - simply because they are big. You are probably not short of space on a TB drive, so a 'Files only' defragment is the quicker option to use. So you can have all your files in one piece each, or have them packed into the smallest disc space by splitting some up. - You can't have both, and which you choose depends on what you want to do. Defraggler does a combination of the two by default, but for more control you can specify which one you want instead. In Defraggler: 'Defrag Drive' will do some of both, as it sees fit to get the best result. 'Defrag Files' will make the files contiguous (#1 above). 'Defrag Free Space' (Advanced) will consolidate the files to give the most free clusters. (#2 above). PS. None of this will 'magically' make more space on your disc, it's all just moving files about.
  25. Again - CCleaner does not 'deal with' cookies other than deleting them if/when you tell it to. However I think I may have found what could be causing your issue, and you are not the only one seeing this behaviour. Wilders Security host the 'official' BrightFort/Spywareblaster forum and this thread there is about unprotected cookies suddenly appearing in Spywareblaster: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/persistent-new-unprotected-cookies-ad-in-firefox-browser.429707/ A reponse there by the BrightFort moderator on 17 June indicates that it seems to be a bug in Firefox itself that is causing the issue, but there has been no update from them since.
