  1. Aah, yes I see what you mean. I agree that it is particularly bad wording, and could well look like something is actually faulty with your computer. It is nothing to worry about if that message is coming from Health Check, it is not the same as if it is coming from Windows. (The CCleaner developers are sometimes are a bit careless with their wording).
  2. You have posted on a thread from 2014 which was about CCleaner and not CCleaner Browser. As CCleaner Browser was only released last year your tirade has no relevance whatsoever to this six year old thread. If you are having a problem with CCleaner Browser then please post again in the CCleaner Browser forum.
  3. If someone else is logged into the computer with your named account then they can see your browser history. If they are logged in with a different named account they they see their own browser history, and not yours. (Always qualified that an Administrator account can see data from other, non-administrator accounts.)
  4. The browser history will only show the filename and where the file is located, so that you can open it again later if wanted. It does not keep the contents of the file in the browser history.
  5. Fond memories of that 520STFM, I taught myself to programme on it. (Drop down menus, wow). I also remember de-soldering the ram chip and soldering in a new one, pin-by-pin, to take it up to a massive 4 MB of memory. You get more Ram than that in a cheap watch now.
  6. That appears to confirm my thinking that Smart Cleaning is closing itself for some reason after it runs. It shouldn't do that but should stay running in the background waiting for junk to build up again. I've flagged it up, and it's over to the devs to work out why it's doing that and fix it. (I suspect I know what's happening, and if I'm right it should be a fairly simple fix for the next CCleaner update). As a workaround for now - If/when the icon disappears from the System Tray opening and closing the main CCleaner interface will restore Smart Cleaning in the background, and so restore the tray icon. You don't have to do anything in CCleaner just open and close it again. (I can reliably replicate that by exiting the tray icon manually then opening/closing CCleaner to get it back).
  7. Thanks for the report, Do you also have Automatic browser cleaning enabled/set for Firefox in Smart Cleaning? It does look that for some reason Smart Cleaning is closing itself after running a clean.
  8. Threads have been merged so that previous issue can be seen. Is this new message coming from Windows or from CCleaner? Could you screenshot it?
  9. Thanks for the reply and the reason that you found. CCleaner can be installed and run from directories other than the default, that's why the option is there in the Advanced install. We have had people in the past who have had \users, and other directories, redirected to other drives than the OS drive (D: or E: drives) without giving CCleaner any problem finding it. I believe though that a ramdisk is a bit of a step too far. (or maybe it's just that particular ramdisk?). I'll point it out to the staff, but as you say I don't think that it will be a priority, in the age of terrabyte SSD's I doubt many people would use a ramdisk? (Last time I used one was back in the 1980's on an Atari ST, 3.5" floppys were slow to access).
  10. I've asked for an update on what is happening regarding this issue.
  11. Your foul language was removed because foul language is not allowed on this forum. CCleaner is a cleaning programme, it is intended to delete things like browser history and cookies - that is it purpose. I have explained above why your browser history and cookies were cleaned, the option that you used is supposed to clean them. A majority of people who use CCleaner do so specifically because they want their browser history and cookies to be cleaned The checkboxes are only used by the Custom Clean option. If you had used Custom Clean then it would have cleaned what was checked and left what was unchecked alone. It appears that instead you have used the Health Check option; which does not use those checkboxes but instead cleans what most people want to have cleaned. You have simply used the wrong cleaning option for what you wanted to do. You cannot blame the programmers for your mistake in using the wrong thing. I'm sorry to hear that you have lost your history and cookies, but that is because you ran the wrong cleaning option. (Wrong for what you wanted, but right for what many others want to clean). You should not blithely use any programme, especially any cleaning programme, if you do not understand what the various programme options will do.
  12. I found the old similar report, that was with when Smart Cleaning was automatically cleaning a browser when the browser was closed. I did some testing at the time and found two things: Often when Smart Cleaning runs the CCleaner icon gets moved into the System Tray overflow area. (Hidden icons). Sometimes though the icon dissappeared from the System Tray altogether but Smart Cleaning was still running. (You can still see in Task manager that CCleaner is running as a background process). I think, but can't be sure, that the second one may be caused by a Windows setting (or even a Windows glitch)? It may be worth checking Task Manager if/when the icon disappears again for you to see if CCleaner is in fact still running in the background. In the meantime I'll flag this up with the staff again. PS. As yours is only the fourth or fifth report of a dissapearing system tray icon, it's probably going to be difficult to track down just what is causing it. It is interesting that your is when closing apps whereas the others were with closing browsers. It does seem to be related to Smart Cleaning, pretty obvious as you wouldn't normally have the icon in the system tray otherwise, probably clashing with some other setting in CCleaner or Windows itself. As everyone has different PC, and CCleaner, setups these clashes are the difficult ones to find.
  13. Did you do a restart (not shutdown/boot) after updating Comodo? If you want to try 5.64 then you can still download older CCleaner versions from Filehippo, look on the right of this screen for the list: https://filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ Note that if you use Firefox then older versions than v5.70 will clear any data that is saved by Firefox extensions/add-ons, there is a work around you can apply to Custom Clean but it doesn't work for Health Check. https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/59225-problem-with-livemarks-addon-firefox/?tab=comments#comment-323452
  14. It was probably just a sticking key then, which has now worked itself free again. (Bit of grit/muck down the side of the key which has now fallen out? It's amazing what muck you can find under some keyboards, hair, nail clippings, and worse). If it happens again try rapidly tapping the key a dozen or so times to see if it frees up.
  15. As we say it's been reported so will be on a fixlist, but as it's just display glitch (an intermittent one at that) and doesn't affect anything functional it's probably a very low priority to track down and fix what is causing it.
  16. Ah, we had a user last week with a similar problem who also had Comodo ISS. He couldn't run any CCleaner newer than v5.64, probably because some changes including security changes were made in v5.65 and above. For interest was your previous CCleaner version that you uninstalled lower than v5.65? It turned out that even though his Comodo said it was up to date there has been a later version available since April. (His Comodo hadn't automatically updated to it). The latest version is 12.2.2.7036, released on 21 April 2020. https://forums.comodo.com/news-announcements-feedback-cis/comodo-internet-security-2020-v12227036-released-t125668.0.html As said these 'CCleaner not running' problems are often AV related so I'd try updating your Comodo to that latest version if it isn't already. (I'm off for a beer or two now).
  17. Swearing, even in Russian, is not the best way to ask for help. I'll give the benefit of the doubt and say it may have translated stronger than you intended, but don't do it again, I'll only give this one warning. I suspect that what you have done is unticked things in Custom Clean but then used Health Check. The ticks/unticks only apply to Custom Clean. Health Check uses it's own cleaning list that you cannot change.
  18. Not a very helpful message is it? This support article was posted 3 days ago, but your issue seems to be different and you have have already tried uninstalling/reinstalling as suggested there: https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000184428-Windows-10-Compatibility-Issues Our first question in case like this is- What Antivirus are you using and is it up to date? It's best to check for the latest version on the manufacturers website, some AV's report that they are up to date when in fact there is a newer version available. Also which version of Windows 10 are you running? There are various things that could cause that message. One thing that was know to throw up that message in the past was if the user had Kaspersky and had CCleaner set to show the 'Summary' screen in Custom Clean. Users with that issue had to disable Kaspersky (or boot into Windows Safe Mode), set the CCleaner to show 'File List' or 'Advanced Report', and then re-enable Kaspersky.
  19. That's an odd one. (Although something nags me that someone else may have reported similar to this a while ago, I'll see if I can find it). I'm assuming that you have Smart Cleaning enabled, as that is what puts a CCleaner icon in your system tray. Do you also have 'Close program after a Custom Clean' selected in Options>Advanced? All I can think of is that what may be happening is: when you close the other programs they create log and/or temp files, and that ocasionally reaches the Smart Cleaning trigger and runs a clean; and then following that clean CCleaner is closing altogether so it's icon also disappears from the tray. It shouldn't do that (Smart Cleaning should stay running in the background) and it would indeed be a bug, but as I say it's all I can think of at the moment from what you describe. It may be that the two options, Smart Cleaning and Close after a Custom Clean, are (or have become) imcompatible with each other. If that is the case then unticking 'Close program after a custom clean' should stop it happening, but it would be good to know if that is indeed the cause so that we can flag it up as a bug to be looked at by the developers. Bugs that happen only ocassionally and/or only for some users are always the hardest to track down. PS. If this is indeed the cause then the frequency with which it would happen would depend on how many GB the 'If cleaning saves more than' is set to in Smart Cleaning.
  20. Sorry, like I say I dont know Mac so have no idea what "zero out" means in this case. TBH though wiping free space is not going to gain any space, it just makes sure that no one can recover deleted files. I don't realy see how deleting GB of files would only leave MB of extra space? Maybe a restart or disconnecting/reconnecting the drive would help? There again if the 1TB drive is that full then it looks like time to get another one. PS. I wouldn't try to defrag it either. With that little percentage free space a defrag would probably take at least a week.
  21. I'm not familiar with Mac, but a 1TB drive can take a long time to wipe especially if there is a lot of free space. With an external drive the connection speed will also play a part. I'm not sure if you can set multiple passes for the wipe free space on a Mac? But if you can/have then obviously multiple passes will take longer than a single pass, the more passes the longer it will take. The problem with force quitting a drive wipe is that it will leave (large) temporary files on the disk, using up a lot of the space. Drive wiping works by writing random 'junk' to the free space and then removing those junk files, so that any recovery programme can only see the junk in future and not your deleted files. If you force stop the wipe then obviously the junk files already written aren't removed. You would then have to find and delete those files manually to get the free space back. So I'd leave it running for now.
  22. Not seeing a problem with "t" or any other letter here. The software that the forum runs in has just been upgraded so I'll keep an eye out, but it may just be a sticky key on your keyboard? It happens sometimes that the contact under the key sticks for a moment, and so it thinks you are holding the key down. Sometimes it's the switch failing, sometimes it's just gunk that got in there and can be cleaned. (Once spilled 1/4 a bottle of Jack Daniels on a bar laptop in the pub when changing the bottle on optic, sticky keys galore and a waste of Bourbon - Coke or any other sugary drink will do the same).
  23. It was Firefox 79 that changed two locations where Firefox extensions store data, and that necessitated the change in CCleaner v5.70. CCleaner versions below v5.70 will wipe those new data locations. If you realy want/need to stick with an old CCleaner version then you can try making the new Firefox locations exceptions in Custom Clean. See here for how to do that:
  24. That should't make a difference. Mine is also a local account (I don't even have a MS account anymore) and I don't see the UAC with CCleaner. It strikes me as odd that you say this is often happening when you are "logging into another programme". Why would CCleaner be launching at that time? CCleaner is not any kind of malware protection. I'm taking a guess that it may be that the login is creating temporary files and so CCleaner is launching because of Smart Cleaning? If you have Smart Cleaning enabled try turning that off and see if the issue still happens when logging into something else. PS. Do you still get the UAC if you launch CCleaner manually on that machine?
  25. If these are system files then leave them alone. Some system and application files need to be duplicated in more than one place for things to work properly. If they are your own files - pictures, videos, documents, etc. then you need to decide which to delete. CCleaner can find duplicates to save you time searching for them, but it can't read your mind to know if you want to keep them or not.
