  1. I Never tried them and I never liked Symantec that much (specially after taking over good ol' Norton products).
  2. I think I have read elsewhere that the Updatususer account won't be created if you install drivers manually and disable auto-updates inside installation options.
  3. If you want to turn autorun off, just to be on the safe side, do this: go to Control Panel -> Autorun Disable the first tick box. Also, set the software and games tab to -> Don't do any action Save changes.
  4. The OP says in his post that it is a VirtualBox virtual disk file.
  5. I thik you won't gain any benefits by defragmenting such large files, unless they are composed by an insane number of fragments.
  6. I think you could decompress any portable version and run it from ramdisk inside Hiren's if portable comes with command line version.
  7. Agreed. It seems like he emptied the prefetch folder and/or several cache folders.
  8. Not confirmed here. Do you by chance have a floppy drive set in bios without a physical floppy drive attached?
  9. Nice reading. I hope they will keep on investigating to achieve a total cure.
  10. It's working quite well for me. Some nice touches were added like the green arrow for downloads.
  11. What do you mean? MSE is just one file. There are two flavours available: for x86 and x64 systems. You just need one.
  12. Try checking these pages too: http://devid.info/ http://www.pcidatabase.com
  13. Which Operating System? Try running Windows Update to check if there is some Visual C++ updates or download latest redistributables (from www.microsoft.com).
  14. Offtopic: You are running WinXP x86 WITH 8GB RAM?!!! Your Operating System is probably "viewing" 3.5 GB at best. All the rest is lost.
  15. I have also noticed that DF is very much slow when defragging a lot of small files than other defraggers. I thought it was that way though. I don't know if this is a bug or not but DF definitely needs a speed improvement in the defragging algorithm department.
  16. Good to know that MSE is working fine for you under XP. I think MSE is being bad-mouthed all the way just because it's Microsoft. I quite like it as I already said.
  17. For testing purposes it seems both AVG and AVAST take up more or less the same amount of RAM and it seems lesser than the one taken up by MSE. The new AVAST seems packed with nice options as of late too (sandbox, common software updater, browsers toolbars cleaner). One thing I really dislike about AVAST is the need for registration (it's more a nuisance than anything to me) and too much "get the commercial version" ads everyone (even within the installation process). AVG seems to perform well too but I think it lacks some of the latest AVAST features. As far as interfaces are concerned, I still prefer MSE. Some would say its inteface to be very "spartan" but very tidy and uncluttered. For me I like MSE on Vista/7/8 but for WinXP I prefer AVAST or AVG. I don't know why but Microsoft hasn't been able to deliver a satisfying experience for MSE running under XP.
  18. At first sight they seem to be temp files but we should be sure. Where are these files located? I have never seen anything like this so it's not probably related to Defraggler at all.
