  1. How did your music files get deleted?? Would it be possible to re-scan without "Deep scan" or do you need this mode enabled?? Richard S.
  2. The green light simply indicates the files listed do not have overwritten clusters it doesn't mean that after recovery them they're usable. Recovering deleted files is pot luck unfortunately. Richard S.
  3. Does Recuva state that files are in "excellent" condition or have they been overwritten?? Also did you recover files using "Deep scan" mode or without?? Richard S.
  4. As Augeas says you will need to enable "Deep scan" because by formatting the memory card the filenames are lost. Recuva in Deep scan mode will check every byte of your card which matches a jpg header and attempts to rebuild each lost file. Just how many files you can recover is hard to say since you've already overwritten them with 60 new jpgs. If Recuva fails to find anything then I would recommend "ParetoLogic Data Recovery Pro" which the only other data recovery tool I've used that works with a formatted memory card or if it contains damaged partition data. Richard S.
  5. Recuva will state "excellent" on the condition that file clusters are not overwritten this doesn't always mean that files recovered are usable. Richard S.
  6. What kind of files?? Richard S.
  7. To start with boot into safe mode and login as Administrator without this you're missing the "security" tab in Windows Explorer. Access the folder you're having security permissions with and then "take ownership". Richard S.
  8. My ISP Virgin Media is suppose to be 10megs and yet the past few weeks I'm barley scratching the bandwidth requires to play YouTube videos. So on a few days I'm just able to watch a video clip and moments like right now it's buffering like crazy. One thing I can be certain is this problem is not my cable modem setup because I have no problems using rival video sites like Dailymotion. So I was wondering does anyone know if YouTube has some kind of bandwidth control or is my ISP deliberately shafting my connection?? Richard S.
  9. Try a different USB port. If that fails keep it connected to the USB port and open Device Manager "Start","Run" devmgmt.msc Do you see any yellow markers, can you "Update Driver..." for the faulty device?? Richard S.
  10. I did some searching today and I'm happy to say I have found a solution for the missing folder problem. It turns out there are registry keys missing which you can fix by applying a registry patch or by rebuilding the ISO using the information here. To apply the registry patch you must save the following text to a file called fix.reg to your flash drive: Boot up BartPE and then import the registry keys with regedit or by running fix.reg After that you should be able to use Recuva or Handy Recovery without any problems Richard S.
  11. It depends on the software you use if it can make perfect sector for sector cloning of the hard drive then it should be possible to recover files. Unfortunately I cannot recommend any software the tools I've used so far only make backup of files that exist from the source drive. Richard S.
  12. You could try running chkdsk just to make sure there are no file system errors on the drive. start run chkdsk I: /f (assuming I: is the problem drive) and then reboot Windows. Richard S.
  13. In the event of a bug check this should be written to the system log unless Ccleaner cleans this also?? "Start" "Run" eventvwr.exe - click on "System" and look for "saved dump" or "bug check" around the time of your crashes. Do you have any entries?? Richard S.
  14. Defraggler doesn't create temporary files it moves files in bits from one location to another as long as there's enough contiguous free space. Richard S.
  15. You've had a blue screen of death but because your Windows is configured to reboot on error it didn't stay on the screen. Have a look in C:\Windows\Minidump\ do you see loads of .dmp files?? Could you zip the dmp files around the time of your crash with Speccy and upload here, perhaps the developers might want to have a look if they're not too busy. Richard S.
  16. Since you have Online Armor installed it probably wont make any different if the Windows firewall was on or off so best leave it as the software had set it. Richard S.
  17. Most email clients provide additional information (email header) this contains useful data such as IP address of sender, mail servers and their IP's, and the path the message had taken. Unfortunately it appears hotmail lacks such functionality to expand the message header which kinds of sucks. Richard S.
  18. Interesting email message, I can think of 2 possible reasons for receiving this. a) someone forged the email to you sending you to this forum "we're really busy creating great applications" sounds a tad bit sarcastic to me to be true. b) someone forged your email address and sent it to Piriform (spambot) causing an automated response. Do you have the full header of the email message?? Richard S.
  19. Perhaps they have a full time job working for a software company, like does it really matter how they make their income?? They provide software for free and people should be grateful for that. Richard S.

    Auto cleaning

The Windows task scheduler can be accessed from Control Panel in "Classic View" mode just double click on "Scheduled Tasks" and follow the help wizard. Personally I don't see the need to run CCleaner as a scheduled task since you still need to click here and there, you might as well launch it from the desktop icon instead. Richard S.
  21. Looks like Firefox is now Firefux atm. Richard S.
  22. I quite like this even though it's fake Richard S.
  23. The folder selection window is blank because "SHBrowseForFolder" function doesn't work under BartPE. You can correct this by using the XPE plugin or by using the solution as stated below. In the meantime there is another tool you could use called Handy Recovery, click on the download page the freeware version is located at the bottom. Handy Recovery also suffers from the browse folder problem but at least you're able to manually enter the path for the destination drive. Richard S.
  24. I've already reported this problem a few weeks ago, whether this will get fixed remains to be seen. Richard S.
