  1. There's no S.M.A.R.T implantation for USB devices, there maybe vendor specific ones but certainly nothing generic like IDE. Richard S.
  2. It's funny how innocent words can mean something completely different in another language. Some company's have been caught out with the naming of their products and had to rename or recall. My favourite one has to be the Mitsubishi Pajero, which is Spanish slang for w**ker. Ironically I used to know a guy at work who owned a Pajero and I think it really suited him. Richard S.
  3. I hit report 2 hours ago, hopefully it shall be removed Richard S.
  4. Isn't this meant to be a spoofed news site?? Richard S.
  5. If you move the main window while defragging the progress dialog box runs off in the same direction and eventually vanishes off the screen. Also while in "File list" with size column sorted I'm also experiencing temporary hanging for 20 seconds with my CPU maxed out. This usually happens after defragging a batch of files, or simple selecting another drive to view and clicking back in "File list" mode. I've never experienced this problem with previous versions of Defraggler so something is definitely not right here. Richard S.
  6. A black and white picture can only mean 2 things: a) unsupported colour format i.e. PAL/NTSC or b) only the Luma (b&w) signal is being processed but not the Chroma (colour). Also I'm a little sceptical about your cable I thought it was technically impossible to convert S-Video to YPrPb without the aid of an electronic box. The best solution would be to use an S-Video to Composite adapter like this one sold at Amazon although you may find the picture quality a little fuzzy. Richard S.
  7. Most registry problems can be resolved by using the System Restore. Richard S.
  8. Have you tried running: chkdsk.exe /f /r d: (assuming d: is the problem drive)?? Richard S.
  9. This looks like a Speccy bug it's suppose to show the S.M.A.R.T data entries but they're missing for some reason. Since you've checked your hard drive with HD Tune and smartmontools I think there's nothing to worry about. Richard S.
  10. Could you post a screen dump of Speccy's S.M.A.R.T status readings and using HD Tune. Richard S.
  11. Recuva shouldn't be rebooting your computer whether you have bad sectors or not so clearly it's doing something wrong here. Do you have any crash dumps (c:\windows\minidump\) or any further information like STOP code?? To fix bad sectors you can run chdsk.exe - Start, Run, chkdsk.exe /f /r (answer Y and reboot Windows) or use a program called MHDD Richard S.
  12. rhio, it sounds like your machine has malware running there is no such network activity as you've described. From my checks Speccy makes one connection to speccy.piriform.com:80 needed to obtain the IP address behind a NAT. Richard S.
  13. Have you check the "File list" perhaps you have 1000s of small files to defrag?? Richard S.
  14. So what's new then about Adobe?? Richard S.
  15. Actually reading data near the outer edge of the disk is a lot slower than at the start, you can see difference by performing a benchmark test using HD Tune. I'm not sure about the technical reasons but I think the drive has to work extra hard to read the magnetic surface near the outer edge due to it's physical design. Richard S.
  16. It's unfortunate you have corrupted files but your evidence concerning Defraggler is nothing more than circumstantial. You never "chkdsk" before running Defraggler so it's unclear whether the files were already damaged or not. Defraggler like other defragging tools use the Windows API to work if problems occur then it can't be software related. Richard S.
  17. I don't think overheating is the problem your machine should have killed the power supply. It's possible something else is to blame perhaps your graphics card is going bad. What graphics card do you have in the machine?? If you start XP in "Safe Mode with Networking" and let it idle does your machine still crash?? When your machine crashes again hold the power button down for more than 3 seconds to force a hard power down. Richard S.
  18. I've seen "Class Not Registered" before but only when running Speccy inside BartPE. It's possible you have registry errors causing Speccy to throw a wobbly. Richard S.
  19. Chkdsk found errors, perharps it's saved lost frangments in \found.000. Richard S.
  20. What exactly happens, i.e. screen goes blank, it kills the power?? Richard S.
  21. I'm still waiting for an answer MrG. Richard S.
  22. 58 secs although this is IDE and a rather old P4 with well a used copy of XP Pro SP2 VirtualBox + XP Pro SP2 - 71 secs VMware Player + XP Pro SP2 - 89 secs Richard S.
  23. You could try Everest Home Edition or SIW see if that detects your hard drive correctly Richard S.
