  1. I'm out of popcorn Richard S.
  2. Sounds like you have "Deep Scan" enabled this unfortunately slows your PC down considerable over regular file scanning. Richard S.
  3. MTP is a communication protocol for your device and computer to exchange files, a bit like using ftp or a network drive. For Recuva to work it needs low level access to the file system to recover deleted files, this isn't possible with MTP. Richard S.
  4. urgh pass, I think I'd rather buy an optical mouse for $9.90 than decorate my touch pad Richard S.
  5. As far as I can remember iRivier have never shipped flash players with UMS firmware this was optional for owners to download and install themselves. Also the fact that Recuva cannot detect the mp3 player but you could move files around would suggest it's an MTP device. Richard S.
  6. Actually according to Wikipedia the T10 uses Microsoft's MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) which I assume is incompatible with Recuva. Richard S.
  7. Does you iRiver have the UMS firmware installed?? without this Recuva cannot read your device like a regular flash drive. Richard S.
  8. Random freezing can be a sign of pending hard drive failure so I would suggest you check the S.M.A.R.T status with HD Tune and run chkdsk.exe /r Richard S.
  9. Do we really need an app that downloads and installs more apps that's just plain lazy. I think I prefer to download and install programs from sites I trust my way Richard S.
  10. urgh I hate iPhone / iPod users too lol btw does anyone know what software was used to generate the voices?? Richard S.
  11. Yet another (yawn) boring file cloning detection tool for your Windows operating system. It maybe free download but not free software and frankly anyone who thinks it's okay to charge hideously high prices (e.g. Site license $357.90) for a basic program needs a reality check. I think i'll pass and use I use NirSoft's HashMyFiles or SearchMyFiles instead. Richard S.
  12. The chances of finding lost files are greatly reduced if data has been written to the source drive. Recuva cannot only do so much, if nothing can be found even with "Deep Scan" then nothing is recoverable. Richard S.

    MIXER DEVICES

In some circumstances if files have been removed or damaged the System Restore cannot roll back correctly. You can still review the install/uninstall logs so perhaps this might give you some clues as to what's changed. Do you know what sound card you have, perhaps re-installing or updating the sound card drivers would help?? Richard S.
  14. There are tick boxes for "Make Ask my browser default..." and "Set Ask.com as my homepage" but not the tool bar?? It seems to me the design was somewhat deliberately misleading because most who read "Decline" would associate it with cancelling the installation. Richard S.
  15. No, Recuva requires low level access to the file system which is not possible over a network. Richard S.
  16. I've never used Nikon digital cameras however I can tell you that 8KB would be too small to be regular size photos, so it would appear you've recovered thumbnail images. If you haven't already tried this then I would recommend using "Deep Scan" and see if Recuva can dig a little deeper. Richard S.

    MIXER DEVICES

Your sound card drivers are not working hence no sound and problems accessing the mixer. Open Device Manager (devmgmt.msc) look out for yellow markers and find the error codes. When was the last time you had sound working?? Did you install/uninstall any software or applied any windows updates?? Have you tried a System Restore yet?? Richard S.
  18. Are they recovered digital photos?? How big are the recovered files?? Richard S.
  19. Defraggler probably cannot find enough contiguous free space to move your 1.5GB files. Do you really need to defrag them?? Richard S.
  20. A Windows recovery should only re-install Windows, all user profiles and installed programs files (except HKLM registry entries) should still be intact but not linked. "Start", "Run", "C:\Documents and Settings\" (with quotes) and see if you old account(s) still exist. Richard S.
  21. The monitor goes into standby mode when it's switched on and detected no video signal. Since hitting reset corrects the problem it seems unlikely there's a fault in the cable. I'm wondering if somehow the PC or graphics card isn't ticking over correctly when turned on. Are you sure the PC is running i.e. flashing keyboard lights "beep" from the speaker etc.?? Richard S.
  22. Fast or slow you can never win the argument because speed isn't a suitable measurement for the efficiency of detected malware. If you're serious about finding bad things on your computer then don't rely on one tool use several such as Malwarebytes and Spybot together. Richard S.
  23. I'm getting rather bored of these browser bashing comparison charts, so what if browser X is 400 times faster than browser Y I'm not interested. I'm happy with what I have, Firefox, and the useful plugins that allow me to control the way I want to see my pages rendered. Richard S.
  24. @romanoff If done correctly there should be no unexpected behaviour the patch simply allows pagefile.sys to be processed. I can understand your concerns about modifications and yes if you're a n00b or clueless then you should leave it alone. As for the original problem I see no reason for pagefile.sys to be deliberately excluded I'm sure some would point out that it's locked by the Operating System, however my point is under BartPE / ERD Commander it is not locked. For defragging pagefile.sys I use Sysinternals Contig under BartPE on many occasions and never suffered any ill effects I just wish I could do the same using Defraggler instead. Richard S.
  25. anyone else noticed temporary lock-ups while moving around the "File list" ?? Richard S.
