  1. Recurva considers all deleted files as excellent condition providing their clusters are not used by other files. Therefore even if you could recover deleted files there is no guarantee they're the uncorrupted originals. I can't help you regarding the Mac you could perform a low level format and hope it destroys everything. Richard S.
  2. What's wrong with ImageShack?? Richard S.
  3. Hi Dennis I'm using photobucket, perhaps it's blocked/network routing problem or something it's still working as far as I can tell. Richard S.
  4. Okay, well I've signed up with emenace.com they seem to have what I need in terms of php support and was fairly hassle free signing up. Richard S.
  5. I just downloaded the latest version of Recuva, as for the problem I think the photo speaks for itself. (edit: see images below) If I hold and drag the scroll bar with the mouse it draws the lines correctly but not if you click on the scroll bar instead. Richard S.
  6. I used to have access to a free site that provided .php support but they're gone now and unfortunately my ISP doesn't support it. I've been looking for some alternatives sites but I'm not sure which to use or to trust without getting my mailbox spammed. I'm not too fussed about limited disk space or bandwidth limits just basic ftp access will do. any recommendations?? cheers, Richard S.
  7. As far as I'm aware Ccleaner doesn't get involved with hardware drivers therefore I think your claims of damage based on circumstantial evidence are unfounded. You say you have an mp3 player, is this a flash drive based player or one that uses property software nonsense such as the iPod?? Perhaps you're current drivers or software for your player is not fully compatible with Windows 7?? Richard S.
  8. If you're unfamiliar with Task Manager then perhaps Nirsoft's Explorestart would help. If you're browsing or downloading a file just be aware this tool will also close Internet Explorer without warning. Richard S.
  9. System Restore perhaps?? Richard S.
  10. Running programs with a "IsDebuggerPresent" dependency problem can sometimes be fixed by patching the executable as described here. However even if CCleaner could run there are so many changes from 95 to 98 in terms of where files are stored that it probably wouldn't clean anything. Richard S.
  11. I use to get this problem with my work's PC, restarting explorer usually fixed the problem. - Start Task Manager with Ctrl + Shift, Esc - Click on the "Process" tab and look for explorer.exe - kill explorer.exe then File, "New Task" explorer.exe Richard S.
  12. I have to be honest I'm not really impressed with the disk display Window in Defraggler I find the blocks a little large and confusing. If you want to see how all your files are placed on the hard drive and all the gaps then Sysinterals - Disk View comes highly recommended. Richard S.
  13. I've looked at SIW and the section "Licenses" which I assume you're referring to does not provide a full list of serials against all the legit applications I have installed on my computer. As I have stated before, there is no set standard for storing registration data some of which is puposely encrypted to prevent theft so it's really up to the application like SIW to search only in known locations. Because there's literally billions of applications you could download, install and register it's simply not feasible to expect Speccy or any other program to find them for you. Richard S.
  14. Defraggler doesn't touch C:\System Volume Information because this folder (with exception to fat32) is protected by NTFS file security permissions by default. I'm not sure if this works with Vista / Win7 but to gain access to SVI under XP you must login as Administrator, change the folder security permissions and give full access to Administrator (or to another user account). Suggestion

Most laptop manufacturers come with their own power saving / battery status monitoring software. If you're missing this then I would suggest you visit the homepage for your laptop drivers and tools. Richard S.
  16. I'm not sure how Defraggler decides where to moves the files but I would assume it does this with the least amount of effort, so they could be moved anywhere on the disk. To compact the files, that is move everything to the start of the disk, you need to use the "Defrag Freespace" option under "Action, Advanced". While compacting does a good job it would leave some gaps behind because it's almost impossible to find files to fill them completely. To fill the gaps you have a second option called: "Defrag Freespace (allow fragmentation)" which works but at the expense of fragmenting your files. Richard S.
  17. I'm going to have a stab at this although Mr G is the only one to know. - First Defraggler looks all the cluster allocations for every file on your hard drive. - It creates a list of files and generates fragmentation statistics. - In defragging mode it takes a file from the list and looks for contiguous free space to fit the size of the file. - The Windows API is called and this moves the file or fragments to the desired location. - The API reports back to Defraggler whether file move was successful or contains further fragments. - The next file is processed the same way until it reaches the end of the list. Richard S.
  18. Not recoverable either, apart from the bit of text at start the remainder of the file is full of $00's Richard S.
  19. The problem with this idea is that not every application uses the same location or method for storing serial numbers. I've seen some programs use file only registration however the majority do use the System Registry but in various places and sometimes encrypted. For serials stored in the System Registry the best you could do (although not 100% guaranteed) is to make copies from the following: HKCU\Software\ and HKLM\Software\ exporting keys belong to each application you wish to backup. Richard S.
  20. If you run Process Explorer with the /t switch it makes it start in the system tray. As for running on startup just create a shortcut and then move this in the "startup" folder or create a startup key in: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run Richard S.
  21. Is System Restore set to monitoring your drive?? Richard S.
  22. I've changed the URL, it appears my other web space is down at the moment. thanks for spotting the problem Dennis. Richard S.
  23. I never bothered with task manager to be honest I've always had Process Explorer minimised to my tray on startup (procexp.exe /t). Richard S.
  24. I think I've seen a few Geico ads while in America, isn't that the lizard with the British accent?? The Shake Weight Parody that's on YouTube beats anything at the moment (I won't link it cos it's rude) Richard S.
