  1. I don't remember the label completely, however watching an episode of MotorWeek I remember seeing the battery label warning on a hybrid car a Toyota or Honda that warned of being killed if the batteries were handled.
  2. For those that can use the ZoneAlarm firewall with no issues I'd say they're lucky. I've dealt with it on multiple occasions causing my connection to fail hence the reason I no longer use it. If the suite is the one with the antivirus I believe it may actually be eTrust EZAV, which you can get a free 1-year fully functional trial of here. I'd personally choose a different firewall altogether.
  3. I don't know how many times I rebooted "hoping that would work" until it finally pissed me off seeing the "updates are ready to be installed" in the taskbar. I don't have the patience or time to deal with a 1.8 MB download/update of it's signature files if/when they won't even install. They really need an incremental update feature. Problems with the now obsolete Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta 1 which were mostly system-wide issues like 50% or higher of CPU usage forced me to uninstall it - which was only a few days before Windows Defender Beta 2 was released. I'm not even going to bother with Windows Defender once it's released as a final stable build. I personally think MS would be better off licensing something like Spybot - Search & Destroy hence it works and at least the signature files can be manually downloaded and installed.
  4. I would say restart Windows, it could be a pending file rename operation to update the program files of CCleaner - thus it may not work correctly until you restart. If that doesn't work you "may" need to: 1. Uninstall CCleaner. 2. Restart Windows. 3. Reinstall CCleaner ...or your install of MS VB Runtime may be broken and need to be reinstalled. It could actually be a number of things.
  5. I don't use Spyware Doctor. ChkDsk refusing to run was either after I installed SP2, or from some other Windows Update which one I have no ideal because when I redid my system in Sept 05 I just let it download updates all night from MS Update while I slept.
  6. It probably would come with a warning tag: Please refrain from drinking your system. You risk drunkenness & electrocution.

    Hi all

Huh, please in EngWish next tummy, oh tay! I only know a handful of German mainly because allot of my software comes from URL's with .de and I will sometimes have to utilize the language tools by Google, but it's really Japanese that stumps the hell out of me since they don't use letters in their language that can be easily deciphered.
  8. Since you give not operating system info the only suggestion I would have is to restart Windows.
  9. Ok you only have drive C:\ correct? The batch file is listed in the code below, just save it anywhere you wish and name it something like: Check Disk.bat Note: It will run chkdsk with the /V option to clear any unused indexes - which in themselves can be the cause of some errors. @ECHO OFFECHO **********ECHO Check DiskECHO **********ECHO.ECHO -----------------------------------------------------------ECHO.CHKDSK.EXE /V C:ECHO.ECHO -----------------------------------------------------------ECHO.ECHO Information:ECHO Press any key on the keyboard to schedule aECHO Check Disk scan on drive C and to have theECHO computer reboot immediately to run the scan.ECHO.ECHO Note:ECHO * There's no reason to allow the scan to takeECHO place if no errors are listed in the reportECHO above for drive C.ECHO * If you don't want to run the scan immediatelyECHO just close this window by pressing the X inECHO the upper right to cancel the scan.ECHO.ECHO -----------------------------------------------------------ECHO.PAUSEECHO."%windir%\system32\FSUTIL.exe" DIRTY SET C:"%windir%\system32\shutdown.exe" -r -t 10 -c "The system will now restart to run Check Disk on drive C"ECHO.ECHO -----------------------------------------------------------ECHO.ECHO To abort the restart quickly press any key on the keyboard.ECHO.ECHO -----------------------------------------------------------ECHO.PAUSEECHO."%windir%\system32\shutdown.exe" -aEXIT
  10. I tried Windows OneCare Live for all but perhaps 30 minutes until I made a hastly decision that it wasn't exactly up to par, the firewall had open ports, the av was a pain in the ass to use, it all seemed like a security app from years past, e.g; already outdated.
  11. That could be because NAV is like a vacuum cleaner - it's really good a sucking - that is; people into buying it, whom later find out it really does suck.
  12. I removed Windows Defender after the update fiasco, however that wasn't the only reason I ditched it; I started noticing it was taking a hellish amount of time to open some folders on my system, as soon as I removed Windows Defender the slowdown was gone.

    A-squared

I wouldn't know diddly about A-Squared since when I registered to get the download some months ago the webform bitched about me having an Opera email account, therefore if they want to be snottie - to hell with their app.

    Hi all

Welcome. No more poor attempts of using the German language from me, see what it started!
  15. Your registry cleaner was correct. Removing the hotfix uninstallers will leave behind invalid uninstall info in the registry. In actuality CCleaner should have had that coded into it before including the hotfix uninstaller option - it's plain sloppy.
  16. Boot-time chkdsk "autochk" doesn't work on allot of systems. I don't know if it had something to do with installing SP2, or some other hotfix. It's broken on my system as well, however just use this to force it to run at boot-time create a shortcut with this in it: %windir%\system32\FSUTIL.exe DIRTY SET C: name it something like ChkDsk C on Startup I tried editing my registry back when I found out it wouldn't run (Sept 2005), and nothing I did fixed it.
  17. I only need a small amount of info from you so that I can customize it for your system: * What are your hard drive letters. * What hard drive letter is Windows installed on. * Verify that all your hard drives are formatted with the NTFS file system. If they aren't I'll have to remove the /V option to clean unused indexes. It shouldn't take me but 30 seconds to modify the one I use and then post it. I'll check this thread tomorrow at some time, but right now I have to go lay down I think I'm getting the flu and I feel terrible.
  18. The info in the first reply by Wildcat is correct. Just backup the whole Session Manager key to a .reg file like "Session Manager.reg" if you're unsure. The /X he listed in the second post is to dismount/unmount a drive so that you don't have to reboot to run the scan, more simply put to check a locked drive that Windows isn't installed on the command would be this (dismounting won't work on drive C: if that's where Windows is installed): chkdsk /x d: Even on my system scheduling a CHKDSK won't work therefore I use this and then reboot (it can't however do a surface scan): %windir%\system32\FSUTIL.exe DIRTY SET C: To check other drives just change C: after DIRTY SET C: to the actual drive you want to check, for example to check drive D: it would be: %windir%\system32\FSUTIL.exe DIRTY SET D: EDIT: To find out what the CHKDSK parameters are do the following: Start a Command Prompt and type in: CHKDSK /? ...If your system is formatted with the NTFS file system I can post a batch file for you to run chkdsk. It will even automatically restart your computer and run chkdsk for you if errors are found on C:.
  19. Download HijackThis. Open HijackThis and do the following: 1. Open the MISC Tools section 2. Delete a file on reboot. 3. Browse to SchedLgU.txt it will be in the folder where Windows is installed, typically this is C:\Windows 4. Highlight the file and select Open. You can either restart immediately by selecting Yes, or you can select No to have the file deleted the next time you start Windows. You can also delete the file upon reboot using the freeware Disk Cleaner. You can also delete the file using CCleaner by starting in Safe Mode, and then running Cleaner > Run Cleaner.
  20. Adobe Acrobat Reader is a bloated slow loading pig, get Foxit Reader.

    Issues Scan

It blocks certain things well actually allot of things by installing killbits into the registry so for instance some variations of CoolWebSearch can't install themselves. It also applies protection into Internet Explorer, Mozilla, and Mozilla Firefox browsers. It has backup utilities to save your browser configuration, your HOSTS file in case they ever get hijacked you can quickly restore them using SpywareBlaster. To protect your computer! One program may detect something another currently doesn't or can't completely remove. It's better to have an army of protection and never get infected in the first place. Just look at various sites that offer HijackThis analysis and you'll quickly see that having allot of layered protection (multiple programs that perform the same basic task) is the way to go so you don't end up with a horde of infections that could cause so much havoc your system that a format and reinstall of Windows could be the only course for true disinfection.
  22. I don't need another OS from ole' Billy boy, and as far as I'm concerned Vista is already going into the s**t bucket because I won't be getting it nor any other MS developed OS.
  23. You weren't playing around with 'Advanced > Custom Files and Folders' were you by any chance? From a backup, you did make a backup didn't you!
  24. Blame it on that foul four lettered word; Sony I wouldn't be suprised if the distributor is a Sony owned subsidiary.
