Funny you'd mention that! For the first time today (before I had even seen this thread) I downloaded Neowin UXTheme Multi-Patcher v4.0 and installed some deviantART themes. My system started acting sluggish as hell which I'd contribute to the UXTheme.dll patch, I suppose the WinXP File Protection warning isn't entirely a b.s. pop-up message. I'm now going to remove the third-party themes and restore to the original MS installed UXTheme.dll.

Well that sucks then! It doesn't make a whole lot of sense either since allot of people only use a free provider.

Try different free providers then, like Hotmail, etc. A Google search for free email providers.

The reason it's like that is because of spammers! It's not your fault. Solution: Use the email address supplied to you by your ISP. Once you're a member I think you can change your email address in the My Controls to a free one.

Even if every person donated enough to pay for the web services, etc., that support CCleaner you still can't discount that big companies like Yahoo! have power and if they were to see an application that they liked they could very well buy it. ...one could also say if such good freeware were transformed into open source software allot of complaining would never take place, hence the inclusion of s**t like the Yahoo toolbar may not ever get included. My take on freeware is that it's closed source software that could one day become commercial software which happens allot.

I always restart after doing an antivirus update even on WinXP SP2, I suppose old habits die hard from my Win98 days.

MSAS was known for using a ton of CPU resources that I would personally watch peak to 50% usage, although it would only do this when adding a restricted site for instance into IE's restricted sites or into the HOSTS file. The only way to stop it from doing that is to either wait for it's long delay to tell you there's a change which you must give a response to or better and quicker just restart the computer. This is of course old obsolete news since MSAS is no longer and has became WD.

I hope you guys that are alpha or beta testing it are at least reporting any issues you're having to the development team.

True. However I've seen registry cleaners suggest to remove valid stuff before and CCleaner is also a culprit of that behaviour because on my system I have some other folders in my Start Menu->All Programs called; Audio-Tools, HTML Document Templates, etc., that it will always want to remove a reference of in the registry which is flat out an incorrect detection because the folders actually and physically exist.

Eldmannen was talking about the Basic or Slim version of CCleaner that is clean which don't contain the Yahoo toolbar!

That should be: sfc /scannow And it's important to reboot immediately after it's done since Windows will restore the correct file versions in a special mode just before the system fully restarts.

That's good to hear. I don't know what kind of conflicts if any will happen with the CCleaner owners and Softpedia since I notice you're now hosting the clean version which isn't supposed to be mirrored according to this statement on the CCleaner download page:

When you wrote SpyBlaster I was thinking it was some new app, but I see after doing a Google search that some people and websites are calling SpywareBlaster that for short which could cause some confusion. I didn't see you list that you have Spybot - Search & Destroy, it's worth having installed!

For your protection using IE download and install SpywareBlaster, it will keep some nasties off your system, and can restore your browser settings if they're altered.

I see the Zoom Browser reference. As to why it messed up your software I don't have the slightest ideal. Since you requested professional help, the only person I'll recommend is the CCleaner developer MrG, you may have to send him a PM to get help, just remember to point him to this thread.

Before we call this a CCleaner created issue you may want or actually need to run a malicious software scan using ewido anti-malware - update it immediately after installation and then run the full system scan. Also using Internet Explorer try Microsoft's free Windows Live Safety Center to perform a full system scan for viruses. If ewido anti-malware and Windows Live Safety Center don't find anything it could be that you need to run ChkDsk since file corruption believe it or not isn't uncommon if the disk error checking programs aren't used every now and then. Most notably if your disk isn't formatted with the NTFS file system (highly recommended) corruption is even more of a serious problem if you're using FAT32.

Possibly something to do with your global temp folder, such as a file deleted that Canon is expecting to be there, however since you've uninstalled it and then reinstalled it that doesn't make that much sense. Does other USB devices work in the same USB port you plug your camera into? I'm just wondering if it isn't some sort of Windows hardware detection problem, e.g.; like having a .tmp file removed that the camera was attempting to use that all of a sudden disappeared that caused problems in the registry.

The poll will probably and unfornutately only get votes from people who know about this thread and actually pay attention to the links provided by englishmen, or that notice the links in his signature. I doubt very much that it will generate allot of traffic hence I suspect many people who are CCleaner users have been getting it from their favourite download site and haven't even been to the forum once since it isn't after all highlighted and linked to from within the program in the About section. It isn't even linked to within the start menu program group. Most apps I've used that have a forum gladly and proudly link to their forum within the program and in plain site.
