I'm using the last version of Arovax Shield 1.2.314 because I found a bug in the newest version 1.2.346 that has to deal with it displaying an error dialog each time it is started that Firefox isn't installed which it isn't on my system because I use Opera. Of course if someone has Firefox installed it probably isn't an issue. I started using Arovax Shield solely because MSAS was slow to prompt of changes to key areas such as IE's restricted sites which I never understood why it would warn about a new restricted site being entered as only trusted sites could potentially cause harm, and it's slow warning of HOSTS file changes. All of these changes that MSAS would take ages to warn about would cause it to spike my system to 50% resource usage. I don't need to go on about Windows Defender since I think it currently sucks in its current stage being that it refuses to update on my system and doesn't give much useful info, I'm just not going to use it at all no matter what's fixed in it. Also it has lost allot of features that MSAS had, leave it to MS to f'up an app that they could have just tuned. I didn't want to use SpywareGuard because it's definition file is hopelessly outdated, and it doesn't protect other key areas of the system which is the reason why I went with Arovax Shield which doesn't cause me any problems, well at least 1.2.314 doesn't. Edit: Leave it to me to blab on an on, you wanted to know what I thought of it. In short I think it's alright. Indeed. That Arovax person better had be careful posting on the Hydrogenaudio.org forums hence he'll find himself banned quick.

Thanks for that info. I was wondering what type of crap I was going to have to go through to restore that folder, until I read your post and remembered that I too have a backup that I saved using Microsoft Backup.

I was thinking the same thing but declined to make any statement about it after the IE7 thread because I'm using Arovax Shield which they kindly provide as freeware.

Sorry if it seems like I'm ridding your ass by saying these words to you: Prove it! If you're going to come here making such claims give us proof, because allot of us are using the apps you've just stomped on. Website links to such articles from valid and trusted sources would be much appreciated. And please correct some of the blatant typos. Things like what you've stated here need to be explained, if you don't explain them your future posts making such wild claims aren't going to get much respect. I'm dying to know since you know about it, yet have opted not to share that info. Where is AVG vulnerable? What advanced tech does avast leak? Bulls**t. There are many deceptive installations that will install adware/spyware without notification, and/or download it after installation.

Something is screwy on your system if it's saving the backup with the .txt extension when they should be the .reg extension. That is if you're talking about what the Issues scanner saves.

I will personally update to it when it becomes final for the only reason being I won't have to download a ton of patches for IE6. However I suspect there will still be a never ending monthly release of patches to "secure" IE7 until the next months patch comes along to "secure" it again. All those patches are an endless vicious cycle, that probably even MS is sick of dealing with not just countless end-users.

Well there are two clean builds. Just send them to www.softpedia.com to download CCleaner, and tell them to pay attention to see that it doesn't have a disclaimer on the page such as includes adware/spyware/Yahoo toolbar.

The quickest way to speed up IE is not to use it at all! Unless of course it's an absolutely necessity such as manually downloading some Windows Updates.

Mine isn't the same link as yours! Mine goes to the page with EZAV on it. That MS page link you gave shows multiple AV scanners so who knows what yy4me would end up choosing such as the horrible Norton AV.

I agree with DjLizard by not disabling error reporting. Hence if a Microsoft program produces an error that's the only way MS can release proper patches, and implementations into the next service pack if there is one. I for one can say that the error reporting does fix issues hence with Publisher 2003 it didn't fully support my Scanner/Printer and simply by reporting the error data within three months it was patched in a service pack.

To the point: The easiest and one of the most effective antivirus programs is eTrust EZ Antivirus, it simply doesn't get much easier to use a antivirus program as the default settings are properly configured to deal viruses a lethal blow. You can currently get a fully functional free 1 year trial of eTrust EZ Antivirus by going here. Also it's less likely to give false positives versus the likes of AntiVir which has been known for giving false positives. It's not overkill, that's being very smart by layering your protection since one program may find something another doesn't detect or can't fully remove.

Don't get me started! Anyone who used Win9x will know how bad the defrag util was in Win9x, basically it sucked and even the copyright info stated it was © Symantec. It would take ages to defrag, would constantly restart, and one of the stupidest things ever re-arranging program files so that they could run milliseconds faster. I don't know how many times I've had to disable parts of the defrag engines conjoined .exe files so that it would just defrag files which only takes it 10-30 minutes versus re-arranging them which would take hours on most systems.

@krit86lr I have no ideal if this will work to improve your boottime or not, however it won't take long to perform. 1. If you are using the NTFS file system run ChkDsk on all your hdd's using the command line version with these switches: chkdsk /v /f c: the /v option will remove unused indexes. 2. Click Start, Run and paste this line in to Optimize Prefetch Data: %windir%\system32\Rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks This process may take anywhere from 1 to 15 minutes, or more to complete, don't use the computer while it's running. When it's finished the hard disk light will stop repeatedly flashing. You should then defragment your main hdd that Windows is installed on immediately after using this! 3. Reboot to see if your boottime has improved.
