The problem with registry cleaners is that they can be easily fooled. For example a key referring to "C:\Apps\app.exe" will be seen as valid. Whereas keys such as "\??\C:\Apps\app.exe" will make some registry cleaners think it's an invalid key when in fact it isn't. You just have to pay close attention to what any registry cleaner wants to remove, if you suspect anything always investigate (if possible) if a particular file really does exist. Investigating for registry errors to confirm what a registry cleaner wants to remeove however won't always leave you with a conclusive answer!

A reason why merging a .reg file can fail is if the shell extension 'Merge' is broken and missing parameters. Instead try to import the CCleaner .reg backup using the main Regedit GUI: 1. Start, run, type in regedit.exe 2. Click File->Import, browse the the .reg backup. If this doesn't work you'll have to log onto your system as the System Administrator. If it still doesn't work try it as the System Administrator in Safe Mode, as you may have some sort of security software blocking the importing of .reg files.

EAC is very good at detecting errors, however there are times when it will display something like Sync Error or Read Error so if you're hearing a glitch due to a track EAC can't rip without errors you'd need to use another ripper to rip that particular track such as CDex using the Paranoia Full ripping method which can be achieved in 'CDex Configuration -> CD Drive -> Ripping Method'. Out of 2000 plus CD's I ripped EAC has only on a handful of occassions given me some weird noise in an extracted track however it's usually the whole track that's effected such as a track full of nothing but a loud hissing sound, that's when I immediately fire up CDex to rip such tracks. Edit: Something else to verify that EAC is extracting the track without errors (e.g.; a perfect rip) is to do this: 1. Highlight the track then click in the EAC toolbar: Action -> Test & Copy Selected Tracks. 2. After the test & copy are done make sure the Test CRC and Copy CRC are identical. It's also very important that you're using EAC in Secure Mode!

I think IrfanView would actually be easier than MS Paint. The only problem with IrfanView is it doesn't to my knowledge create complaint JPG's because not all software/hardware can read JPG's saved by IrfanView whereas with MS Paint that isn't an issue. You may be better of saving as PNG with IrfanView, just make sure you have the PNG compression set to the maximum which is 9 by clicking Save As->Options. Using PNG can sometimes be smaller than JPG and yield better looking images.

I hope you realize that reproducing/copying a whole review or other information from a copyrighted website, etc., can be looked down upon. Now rather they'd actually get lawyers involved is another situation altogether if they feel damaged, and with lawsuits flying around rampant these days it's better to play it safe because allot of people are "sue happy." Most don't mind if you copy an excerpt with a link to the original article, then again some don't even like you to copy an excerpt at all and would prefer that you only provide a link.

I remember back in the day when a 100MB Zip disk was what I made system backups on, back when I didn't know what a CD writer drive was, and before I had an Internet connection and didn't have any downloaded software or know anything about ripping audio CDs. I also remember when I got excited that Iomega was releasing a 250MB version (the dumb-ole days). I actually still occassionally use my old click of death Iomega Zip 100 drive on my Win98 system only as a secondary backup for some programs and security settings, etc., just in case. They can still be found in some stores albeit collecting a bunch of dust as a pack of Fuji's are in my local Staples store I swear they've been there for five years and haven't ever moved. They're available mostly online or in office/computer mail order catalogs however they're a complete waste of money when compared to a run of the mill generic CD-RW that can hold allot more data, also they're very slow to write data onto.

What's wrong with it, do you even know what it is? I'd bet you'd love it if it were called "Linux Greating Card Factory Silver 3.0" and then you'd probably not have anything negative to say about it would Mr. Negative? Right, I've had different font sizes, themes, etc., and not once have I seen the font change in CCleaner. Whatsmore most programs use MS Sans Serif at size 8, and when viewing that on a larger resolution things can get pretty small.

In any event to run it via a shortcut you'd input these parameters, including the quotes, all Windows OSes: "C:\Program Files\CCleaner\ccleaner.exe" /AUTO or on WinXP: "%ProgramFiles%\CCleaner\ccleaner.exe" /AUTO

On Windows XP you can also get the .html re-registered in: Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs -> Set Program Access and Defaults If you choose Internet Explorer you may then need to open Internet Explorer and: 1. I've never tried it with /Auto with only the first letter capitalized, hence when you click Options the About screen has this listed: Command-line parameters: /AUTO - Runs the cleaner upon loading and then closes the application.

And hopefully every get's a "clean" inspection. Nobody would want to be deemed "dirty" and have them to do the wiping!

When I make an ERUNT backup I always select the option (manually tick): Other open users registries Why I do this, I don't know! However it may be needed to fully restore the registry. To restore the backup you just: 1. Click Start, Run, and browse to (today's backup as an example): C:\WINDOWS\ERDNT\01-25-2006\ERDNT.EXE 2. Reboot immediately when prompted.

Audio CD burning only Burrrn: Can create audio CD's from already compressed audio files like .mp3, .ogg, and some formats you may have never heard about, even uncompressed .wav. I highly recommend Burrrn. You won't find any easier way to quickly burrrn an audio CD, and you won't have to go through any options/settings to do so since it's all on the easy-to-use main GUI window. Whatsmore Burrrn automatically creates gapless audio CD's without 2 second gaps which is extremely useful because you'll never forget to enable such an option. Note: Burrrn only creates audio CD's! _________________________ Data CD burning/and audio CD burning Burnatonce: Can do data, however you'll need to download ProDVD do burn DVD's with it. It can also do audio CD's like Burrrn however there's more steps in the creation of an audio CD using Burnatonce, and you have to manually enable the option to create gapless audio CD's without 2 second gaps. DeepBurner Free: The audio CD's it creates won't be gapless even if enabling the option for your burner drive, I tested it's ability to create a gapless CD and it doesn't work it will instead place 1.70 second gaps inbetween the tracks instead of the standard 2 second gaps. With that being said it could have been something to do with my system and the writer drive I used. It's ability to create data CD's is however very good, and it's what I use on my old Win98 system to create backup CD-RW's with. CDBurnerXP Pro: I found it to be a bit bloated when compared to Burnatonce and DeepBurner, however so as to not sound bias I'll let someone who actually uses it commit on it.

Because it's retarded! If it's a configurable firewall you could create an allowed application rule that will permit CCleaner to check for updates.

You have to be very careful using allot of registry cleaners because they'll actually find valid registry data.

I could be wrong, however my guess is it's a limitation of the theme you're using. You could confirm if it is by switching back to a Microsoft theme supplied with the OS to see if the problem really is with the third-party theme or if it isn't.

Thanks for the info! I had went into my settings not to long ago and never noticed it. hopefully that solves my problem.

A couple of other people over the past few months have had that problem, and they were using the same theme you were. It's either that particular theme or the font it's using that is causing the problem with the buttons.

To avoid problems that registry cleaners can and may cause just make a registry backup using ERUNT beforehand. I've seen on more than one occasion when the undo backups created by registry cleaning programs don't actually fix anything!

I've finally become fully annoyed with the behavior of how the PM window works with the new version of the IPB forum software, if some people don't know what I'm talking about it will look like the image below. It won't be moveable, closeable, etc., until the message is at least read which is utterly annoying as hell if you're about to post a reply in a thread. I'm just so damned annoyed by it that I'm finally asking is there a way to disable it so that PM's work as they did in the previous versions of IPB, without completely disabling PM's?
