  1. Ranma? you are behind. I already has this feature (originally request was in june of 2008) under Windows Explorer (on the windows tab) you should see Thumbnail Cache here is the code in the embedded ini [Thumbnail Cache]LangSecRef=3002LangRef=3131DetectOS=6.0Default=trueFileKey1=%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer|thumbcache_*.db maybe I am wrong and you mean the actual thumbs.db files (a file that MS stopped using in Vista I believe cause I can't find any sign of them)
  2. Tia, this seems to be occurring to many users. You are correct to have a bit of worry about canceling where it is now, and if you do so the first thing you'll notice is your drive has lost a huge amount of free space. What Wipe Freespace has done is it has created a huge temporary file at the root of the wiped drive. Many users have found that if they cancel The wipe and then go and permanently delete the file (Shift+Delete) they gain their freespace back. I do not know if this is the currently accepted action and you may wish to wait for another user/moderator to sound off as well (Esp. Davey, Hazelnut, or Dennis). The following is a Note more aimed toward the developers: As you can see This new feature "wipe free space" has caused a GREAT number of issues. Many are like this poster's where it gets "stuck" at 100% I believe that this is due to Windows' issues with Deleting overly large files. Two way I can see to get around this: 1) Many Freespace wipers make a number of smaller Temp files instead of rolling the wiped space into one overly sized file (sometimes 500+GB). This may stop this from occurring in the "frozen state" 2) Remove Freespace wipe. Look, I know people cried and cried for it, but many of us "power users" and forum frequenters called this a unnecessary addition to CCleaner and one that would end up causing issues (as it has). We love cCleaner for it's simplicity and, while we are glad that the addition of this feature means the developers at Piriform are listening to their forum members (something not often seen in the freeware world), this just doesn't fit with cCleaner's purpose; Maybe Defraggler's, maybe Recuva's, maybe even as it's own product (though in any of these cases my first suggestion should come to mind).
  3. Much discussed already Short answer is No There are too many things that CCLeaner needs access to (I.e. Program Files Directory) that require UAC

  5. You have an infection and a moderator will come by and refer you to the Malware section of Piriform But to begin with go here http://www.sophos.com/security/analyses/vi.../vbssolowa.html and here http://raylin.wordpress.com/2009/02/12/spo...bs-cleaner-v11/ (preferably on a clean computer)
  6. Yes IWinPwdSvc is Norton/Symantec, I've said it before and it bears repeating: Antivirus Programs will often NOT identify themselves to the registry in the way cCleaner looks for indentfication, this is to stop Viruses and Malware from mucking up your antivirus program. 8. That's fine and dandy until your kid deletes your facebook cookie and you don't remember your password :/
  9. Metal what you posted in the thread you linked is a different issue (And one that I do not seem to see in my google folder) as can be seen in the pic below this thread refers to The locations of Google earth not being the same as listed in the embedded ini As for your question not being answered Davey is NOT nobody he's is an uber uber uber user and real cool to boot And again as I said it seems that google fixed this and is not cache to that location anymore the two files deleted are the Cache files (as well as the searchhistory) http://earth.google.com/support/bin/answer...mp;answer=20712
  10. @Dennis I installed Earth just now (I thought it had a planetary location i wanted but was wrong ). and it doesn't show in ccleaner anymore Poster is correct also @Dennis, something happened and your picture changed from ini to the current windows explorer screenshot @Poster are you running Vista? Current ini file is [Google Earth]LangSecRef=3021Detect=HKLM\SOFTWARE\Google\Google Earth PlusDetect2=HKLM\SOFTWARE\Google\Google Earth ProDefault=TrueFileKey1=%appdata%\Google\GoogleEarth|dbcache.datFileKey2=%appdata%\Google\GoogleEarth|dbcache.dat.indexRegKey1=HKCU\Software\Google\Google Earth Plus\SearchRegKey2=HKCU\Software\Google\Google Earth Pro\Search ________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________ My Data Vista SP1 Here are the Vista locations C:\Users\{Username}\AppData\LocalLow\Google\GoogleEarth\dbcache.dat C:\Users\{Username}\AppData\LocalLow\Google\GoogleEarth\dbcache.dat.index HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\Google Earth Plus\Search HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\VirtualStore\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Google\Google Earth Plus ________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________ New WINAPP2.ini entry [**Google Earth (nergal mod for vista)]LangSecRef=3021Detect=HKCU\SOFTWARE\Google\Google Earth PlusDetect2=HKCU\SOFTWARE\Google\Google Earth ProDefault=TrueFileKey1=%userprofile%\AppData\LocalLow\Google\GoogleEarth|dbcache.datFileKey2=%userprofile%\AppData\LocalLow\Google\GoogleEarth|dbcache.dat.indexRegKey1=HKCU\Software\Google\Google Earth Plus\SearchRegKey2=HKCU\Software\Google\Google Earth Pro\Search See pic of this working This should work for XP (my XP computer is not here so if some one could check it) [**Google Earth (nergal mod for XP)]LangSecRef=3021Detect=HKCU\SOFTWARE\Google\Google Earth PlusDetect2=HKCU\SOFTWARE\Google\Google Earth ProDefault=TrueFileKey1=%AppData%\Google\GoogleEarth|dbcache.datFileKey2=%AppData%\Google\GoogleEarth|dbcache.dat.indexRegKey1=HKCU\Software\Google\Google Earth Plus\SearchRegKey2=HKCU\Software\Google\Google Earth Pro\Search

    Codecs

Depends, did you just run the cleaner or did you run the registry "fixer"
  12. Yes if you do not allow Wipe to finish (and it "sticks" for many people at 100% but I say just let be be for a while) Wipe Free space will CREATE a file that is the size of the FreeSpace Cleaned i.e. User has 100GB of Freespace User Runs Wipe FreeSpce User See's that it has been at 100% for 15 min User get's Angry "Why isn't this finsihed??? {CENSORED} it I'm just going to close CCLEANER User now has .1 GB freespace and a file that is 99.9GB Large Look it may say 100% that means the file is made it takes a long time for windows to process the deletion of a 99.9 GB file Much less a bigger one like many of us have with our 320 GB drives or Terebyte Drives When CCLEANER says that this takes a while It means Leave it alone I left it for Probably 5+ Hours for my 200 GB of freespace and it did fine. When it's done you will still have the SAME amount of freespace you had when you started the Process (in the example if user had let it finish user would STILL have 100GB of freespace) Developers THIS IS WHY I WAS SOOOOOO AGAINST ADDING THIS TO CCLEANER
  13. Why does it seem like I am the only one who has not had any problems with wipe freespace :-/ Maybe it did just stay on 100% for a while and Because I wasn't hawking over it it actually finished; only the Shadow (copy) knows.
  14. Hi MAthilda that entry only removes the last location information. EXAMPLE:if you were looking at HKCU>Software>mircosoft>internet explorer the last time you used regedit the next time you open regedit it will go to the same spot. Ccleaner just makes it so when you open Regedit next all branchs are closed
  15. I've not noticed anything different in my cokkies Vista Sp1 ie8
  16. See what's wierd is CCLeaner is setup to delete the things that your image shows and leave the actual files alone. Please Note Augueas MAKES a VERY GOOD POINT the more you putz with the computer the Less likely it will be to retrieve the Documents ESP with Recuva-type software
  17. re: http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=130065 Will Twisted Metal no longer be Adding/Uploading new versions of Winapp2? In other words, will we be responsible for adding new entries to our own winapp2 by ourselves? If the Answer is yes, can we at least get an RSS feed for http://72.52.220.109:81/ccleaner/advanced-...for-winapp2.ini so that we can see when somebody has discovered a new one and so we can add it? Many of us use CCleaner and esp the Winapp2 for tech support (for friends, family and clients) and never completely know what programs may be hiding in somebody's PC, for this the Winapp2 has always been a G*dsend. 18. Ah Change logs sooooo useful ;P There have been some "problems" with it but there are "problems" with each version of this (or any) software. and usually as you are as aware as I, they have to do with the program not being used correctly. However, if you ask me (which in a way you did) the change is seemless. I checked the Embedded INI (winmerge compare)and there were only the changes listed above in what is cleaned and how it is cleaned.
  19. Scooter, I'm confused (and maybe it was a Translate error or mistype) but is it Svchost (which is a normal MS Process) or the hostsvc (as dennis said) which is evil killer software?
  20. System restore will not restore files (it even says so when you run it "system restore will not effect your files" or something to that effect. I see know reason why CCleaner would remove your my documents (unless it was added to your include section in options) You're sure that the Actual files are gone? (Your not just checking the start menu under documents but are actually going to x:\documents and settings\USERNAME\My Documents or where X is your system drive and Username is your username? Try recuva and see if you can restore them.
  21. LOL wasn't in the help section yet when I posted (don't know if it is now b/c i too am too lazy). I use Spellcheck for IE (and firefox has a built in spellcheck) Only took me a couple (2-4 maybe) hours to do my freespace sooooooooo I'm not sure hotrod's question was a pretenant as how to correctly spell miraculously (which was miraculously spelled correctly)
  22. I took me a bit to understand what warmth meant but once I did, I must say I agree. I've the same issue with the "other builds" link being not as noticable on recuva and defragger as it is on CCleaner's Download page. Also to go along with Warmth it probably would've stopped me from Downloading Recuva 1.23 three times yesterday from portable. that said I love these new versions mad ups to the devs for these
  23. Hi all, Sigh, here I am usually the one to whip out answers (or insults or whatever LOL) but now I come to ask. . . As I am running "wipe Free space" what the Heck-a-roony am I doing LOL am I writing 0's over things? will this make recuva less able to recover things? (this post will also I hope allow the answer for real n00bs not just wannabe n00bs like me) K bye. the end.
  24. My guess is he just deleted all of the checked box (I.e. he did not follow the advice in my signature) hopefully he did a backup but if not he must either do a sysrestore or reinstall. . .tell him from now on to follow my advice WOOT
  25. Other Builds are still downloading 123 please update
