Hi missmoondoog, I have read your comments a few times but still don't understand what the problem is???

Hi 2harts4ever, Your earlier comments intrigued me and I did some more testing with cookies this morning. For whatever reason, now the cookies remain put weather I have the "Preserve Favorites Website Data" ticked or unticked. I had the latest v2.19.900 in my prior testing as well, but the results were not the same. Something went right somewhere. You are correct, Ccleaner is now working as it should. Thanks, Eva

Hi 2harts4ever, I am pleased to hear that we all have find our solution. I have two PCs. One is identical to yours except 32 and not 64. This one is not upgraded to IE8. It has IE7. It never had a problem keeping the cookies set for keeping. The other is an HP Pavilion, Pentium 4, 32, Windows XP Home SP3. This one was not having any problems with cookies either until I ventured to IE8 Beta then the full IE8. Perhaps, having a problem with cookies relates to the brand of PC and not the Operating System??? I could only confirm this if I switched my Compaq to IE8 and tested it. But, in trying to work around the cookies problem I have downloaded Firefox and the cookies stay put after cleaning with Ccleaner on that browser. (so here goes my theory on brand of PCs versus Operating Systems). For now, I am happy that the solution recommended by vet1964 is working on my system. I enjoy the exchange of ideas. Thanks for the new version V2.19.900. Unfortunately the cookies problem is not solved with it still. I understand IE8 has changed how cookies are stored. DOM storage. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc197062(VS.85).aspx While I do not fully understand the implications in relation to how Ccleaner works, now I understand what has to be done. IE8 has introduced a new Internet Options configuration ( Preserve Favorites website data) which did not exist in IE7. To make Ccleaner work with the "cookies to keep", IE8 users must change the Internet Options setup. Vet1964 has hit the nail on he head; "Make sure the cookies you want to keep are all on the Exclude list of Ccleaner Go to: >Tools >Internet Options >Under General tabs go to >Browsing History >Click Delete and when new pane opens> >Uncheck Preserve Favorites website data (first one) Uncheck all of them if you like, it will work either way (I untick cookies, internet temporary files etc.., history Ccleaner does that)" This new Internet Option ( Preserve Favorites website data) has to be disabled otherwise after reboot the cookies set to keep will not keep. Just downloaded this latest version of Ccleaner and quickly realized that the Cookies set in the "cookies to keep" box are removed after reboot. Ccleaner v2.19.889 claims to have fixed the problem with Cookies in IE8, but it did not. Please try again.

I agree, that IE 8 is different enough to require a redo of the code on how Ccleaner handles cookies. I did a test on my two PCs. One has IE 7 and the other IE 8. On the PC with IE 7, the Cookies placed in the "Cookies to keep" box remained in the TIF folder after running Ccleaner. Those were the only items left. On the PC with IE 8, the Cookies placed in the "Cookies to keep" box were wiped out after Ccleaner was run. The TIF folder was totally empty. Yet, the names of the cookies I set to keep were still showing in Ccleaner, on the right side, in the "Cookies to keep" box . definitely IE 8 has changed something on how or where cookies are stored and Ccleaner is yet to catch up. I worked around this problem and downloaded Firefox/Mozilla as my back-up browser. I have parked the web sites where I want Cookies to remain on it. Works perfectly. Ccleaner leaves those Cookies in place on Firefox.

I have the same problem with Cookies after upgrading to IE 8. My second PC still has IE 7 and it is fine. I am learning that in IE 8, DOM (Document Object Model) Storage has replaced Cookies. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc197062(VS.85).aspx I don't fully understand what this means, but it would appear from your comments that Cookies in Ie 8 are not stored in the same place as they were in IE 7. Perhaps, that is why "Cookies to keep" get removed after running Ccleaner. If they are in the temporary file, they will get wiped out during the cleaning. I believe the problem will only get solved after Ccleaner is changed to support this new feature in IE 8. The latest update, v2.18.878, did not address the Cookies issue.

Thanks DenisD. You just gave me an idea for solving my Cookies problem. Your comments prompted me to download Firefox/Mozilla as my back-up browser. I have parked the few web sites where I want Cookies to remain there. Works perfectly. Ccleaner leaves the Cookies in place on Firefox/Mozilla. Also I would have preferred to get back I.E. 7, which worked fine with the cookies, but I.E. 8 does not allow to go back to the previous version. Now with Firefox/Mozilla I can remove I.E. 8 first and then download I.E. 7, if I want to. Why did I not think of this before??? Thanks

You are correct. I did a test on both my PCs just now. As I mentioned before, one has IE 7 and the other IE 8. On both PCs, the Cookies I placed showed up in the TIF folder. (Tools> Internet Options>General>Browsing History>Settings>View All Files) On the one with IE 7, the Cookies placed in the "Cookies to keep" box remained in the TIF folder after running Ccleaner. Those were the only items left. On the PC with IE 8, the Cookies placed in the "Cookies to keep" box were wiped out after Ccleaner was run. The TIF folder was totally empty. Obviously the two versions of IE function differently. Ccleaner will need to catch up with IE 8 once it is no longer under development. It may take a while for IE 8 to be finalized. In the meantime I don't know how to go around the problem? Tried to copy the Cookies to other folders but it did not work.

Lucky for you. I have Windows XP SP3. XP could behave differently from Vista. Maybe all of us who have the same problem with Cookies are running XP? This problem does not exist with IE 7, started only after I upgraded to IE 8. My second PC with the same Windows XP SP3 has not been upgraded to IE 8 and is fine.

I have the same problem with Cookies since switching to IE 8 RC 1. My understanding is that IE 8 is introduced DOM Storage and no longer using Cookies. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc197062(VS.85).aspx Since IE 8 is only a trial version, Ccleaner is not supporting it yet.
