jc836, are you saying ccleaner removes your restore points? The program does not do this, but there are one or two other reasons that can. Perhaps this thread may help, if not let us know. http://forum.ccleaner.com/index.php?showto...+restore+points A bit more reading here http://bertk.mvps.org/
  2. Is there a reason why you don't, it's rather a risky thing to decide to do.

  4. Hello pantherman and welcome to the forum. A rather obvious question first, are you choosing "save" and not "run" when faced with the download box.? You can install over the top of a previous version as this will save your settings.
  5. Here is the afterdawn link for it. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/416001
  6. Glad you have managed to work out what was causing your error message and for letting us know what it was. Who knows, it may help someone else out reading your solution. Welcome to the forum At0m5k

Had a look at those numbers on the DNS tools at Andy's site. This is what it said, although I'm not too sure what it means!! http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/whois.ch?ip=...=whois.radb.net
  10. Also this info was to provide host file users with the info that there was an update. People who use a hosts file have already made their mind up on whether it is useful or not.
  11. New updates today for the MVPS hosts file . http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

Luckily I have managed to get some of the questions I needed answering answered elsewhere, by either google or pm's. I did manage to sign into opera webmail though and got spammed straight away!
  13. Just had a look Eldmannen and clicked on the note. Looks like it's just recently been taken off the suspect list as it's behaved itself.
  14. As far as I can see JD they are just archives of old threads there, but thanks anyway!!
  15. Do you know in what way this changes the default internet explorer configuration?
  16. It looks dated and I couldn't reach their forums.
  17. Just in case it is because of a conflict, have you tried being offline, with as many other programs as possible (such as antivirus etc) disabled just for a few minutes while you try ccleaner again. Are you logged in as the administrator when you install ccleaner?
  18. GC Did you try this ? http://www.intelliadmin.com/blog/2006/07/w...-shut-down.html as the last line indicates your problem, the User Profile Hive Cleanup may help you out.
  19. Did you just run the cleaner, or did you scan for issues as well? If you scanned for issues you would have been prompted to make a backup of the issues which by default is put in "my documents". Had you noticed any problems before hand such as slowdown or malware/virus problems? Have you tested to see if your system WILL shut down after 5 mins or so if you wait, in which case it could be caused by a different problem. When you say restart do you mean re-boot, and your computer is able to boot from a cold start? Have a look in the event viewer to see if there is an error logged at the time you try to shutdown. Also this may be of interest http://www.intelliadmin.com/blog/2006/07/w...-shut-down.html
  20. Welcome to the forum GC Just had a quick look around, any of this apply to you? http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=831431&sd=RMVP
  21. I have just had a look on the site and this is a beta with the hope of the full version not coming out until sometime early next year. It would be difficult to know where the problem is with cleaning as beta softwares, as you know, can be unstable, and this seems to be the case at the moment. I know some schools are having to use this software which by the way has DRM protocol. Also the beta has no ads but from what I can see, when the full version come out (free) it will pay for itself by "providing context-based ads in the user interface of the live version" OR you can pay and opt out of the ads! By the way, welcome to the forum
  22. If you do start - search- select files and folders and put *dbx in the search box does it find anything? (make sure you have set your computer to show hidden files and folders first) http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/h...iddenfiles.mspx
  23. Hello Lamb888 sorry to read about your problem (by the way you don't need to shout in big letters!) Your problem is not a common one to ccleaner users and can sometimes means some settings on your computer were not as they should be, had you recently changed user accounts perhaps? Glad to hear you made a back up when you did the issues scan. here is a ccleaner guide in case you haven't seen it yet. http://www.internetrotsyourbrain.com/ccleanerbeginnersguide/ also a bit of reading at Kelly's Korner. http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_oe.htm#xp_mail_disappears
  24. If, as Tarq57 hopes, you did an issues back up when prompted, it goes by default to"my documents". Select merge when you click on it. System restore? Did you have something on those computers that made you want to take such action?
