  1. I have AVG antispyware, and spybot and other thing checked in utilities and have no problem receiving updates. Welcome to the forum!
  2. When you run an issues scan and decide to fix, ccleaner will ask if you want to make a backup of the reg entries, say yes and put it in my documents and then if something is obviously wrong (not very likely) you go to the backup, double-click and merge, and you are back where you started! Welcome to the forum
  3. Just a thought, It is suggested with some erasers/washers that you turn off system restore when you do this as there have been instances of system restore points being wiped as well. Here is one I found http://bbs.heidi.ie/viewtopic.php?t=1921&a...c256ad4fe90cbe7 Don't forget to turn it back on when you finish!
  4. Mentions update 4 here, as I don't use Star office not sure if this is the right thing !! http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/document.do...-21-112888-05-1
  5. Which version of ccleaner have you downloaded, full (with toolbar) basic or slim ? Also welcome to the forum
  6. Arizona, I guess it's not really going to matter anymore what people say to you is it? You are not going accept any sort of " hand of friendship" or explanations of any kind. So be it. May I make a suggestion in a VERY well meaning way, please make regular backups of your work from now on, get an external hard disk even and copy over your work each evening, because there are lots of other ways to lose your work. Best wishes to you and yours.

    IE7

I read somewhere that one guy solved this on his machine by reinstalling WMP. here is another solution someone found here http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.p...a91ecbf48d92fa7 I'm lucky I guess as I have IE7 and everthing works although I mostly use Opera now.
  8. Andavari, Good to see you back I'm sure everyone on the forum wishes you a speedy recovery, I take it you will be on rat poison now?!! ( warfarin )

    Opera?

Thanks for the list John. I have IE7 ( no problems with it at all) but have now used opera 99.9% of the time for the last couple of weeks. I like the style and speed and am not really bothered about zillions of extentions as I mostly use the same half dozen anyway.
  10. Just had a little look around and all I can come up with at the moment for the pkmsa entries are that they may be to do with routers, do you have one? As for the second lot see here http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-7813-0.html?f...ssageID=2070814
  11. Did you manage to work out how to save the cookies you want to keep? Open the ccleaner program, press options, then cookies. Sites that you have visited and have cookies for will be listed on the left. click once on them to highlight, and press the arrow in the middle to transfer them to the cookies to keep list. You asked about removing ccleaner, as it is for most programs, the best way is in - add and remove programs - in your control panel. As for removing programs from the startup list, it is really best to know what you are doing before you use this option. If you do an "issues" scan, it will ask if you want to make a backup. You can say yes to this if it will make you feel safer, and the backup will be stored in the, my documents, part of your computer in case you need to use it.
  12. Hello Replicant and welcome to the forum Have a read of this and then, whatever questions you still have, come back and ask. http://www.internetrotsyourbrain.com/ccleanerbeginnersguide/
  13. So unlocker did not work. Do you have full admin permission to delete the key in regedit? I presume you have tried safe mode? I know someone who turned off system restore, did a scan, and then turned restore back on to cure a problem like this as a virus was recreating it. If you consider doing a log, here are some instuctions which may help you, post the log in the hjt log forum section. http://forum.ccleaner.com/index.php?showtopic=1720
  14. Jim you can try this, it's a very safe to use and it's good to keep on your computer anyway. http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/ If you still have no joy you could try renaming the file to see if you can delete it then. If not it may be an idea to post a log in case you have any malware.
  15. Hello Jim and welcome to the forum I can assure you no one will make fun of your problem. Are these extensions from pictures still on your computer?
  16. Thanks for that interesting read Humpty. While I agree 110% that she knows exactly what she is talking about, I sometimes get just a bit peeved when experts start saying we shouldn't use this or that, or that this or that approach is useless against the latest group of nasties. The vast majority of users have neither the technical know how or knowledge to use anything other that what is on offer to us. Solutions that most experts suggest are ones that can only be implemented by experts. She is in the great postition of being able to totally clean her system without using software because she is an expert -we are not.
  17. Hello ksknives, here are two links which will give you a good idea of the basics. http://www.webmasternow.com/copyandpaste.html http://members.aol.com/jaynecg/private/copy.html
  18. Hello Arizonabay, I remember your original post as it was an unusual situation to occur, losing stuff in the quantites you did. I understand why you feel a bit bitter but if you look at it from another point, you had used ccleaner for some time without problems therefore it was somewhat logical to assume that there was another cause. I don't think that people laughed at you, most people understand how distressing your situation would be. It was fortunate for people like you and fellow users of ccleaner that someone was able to work out what the cause was. I know quite a few people here tried to work out what had happened, although it may not have seemed like that at the time to you. Were you able to work out why yours had changed? Anyway Arizona, please feel free to stick around the forum you will be most welcome
  19. Heugh, do you have ccleaner set to run at startup? Also welcome to the forum
  20. Is this what has happened to you? If so, I think you can regard it as a false positive.
  21. If you look again at johnr's post you will see he has already tried that, which is why I have suggested he reinstalls over the top of the one has has to try and fix the uninstaller.
  22. Sometimes the toolbar can be removed by redownloading it and then uninstalling. A corrupt uninstaller sometimes prevents uninstall. Welcome to the forum by the way!
