Kurt Godel, who was mentioned in that article, was the first guy to crank out a proof with enough mathematical rigor to sway the scientific community that they really can't prove anything (they really like to think they can). The old Jesuits knew a trick: ask "why" 5 times and you will get down to the speakers assumptions. In the words of the ancient greek philosopher Esophagus: "It ain't nothin 'till I say it is" It all comes down to faith, baby. Whaddaya believe? Can't prove anything. edit. I have to agree with JDPower, and I bet Mr. Korczak gets paid by the word.

Hi, Tom AZ. Very good advice just above here from Anthony A. Rootkits are tough. If you suspect you have one, get expert help. Icesword looks at most places you might find a rootkit, and gives you a list of all the things going on there. For example, thread creations, system services, message hooks, and several others. There are sometimes false positives, so be careful. Icesword won't do anything when you click on it except list what's going on. That is what I use it for, and if there is anything suspicious I start looking for expert help. So far nothing found yet. It is an interesting app, and harmless just to run. No installation required.

Not into heavy thinking, it causes brain rot faster than the internet. If you enjoy it, a different statement of almost the same issue is here: http://www.lassp.cornell.edu/ardlouis/diss...ve/Schrcat.html

Do you use a Limited User Account to access the internet?
login123 replied to Robbie's topic in Windows Security
Hi Robbie. I do much the same as Tunerz, plus am giving Returnil a workout. PS, Returnil, Sandboxie seem to work very well on WXP, no conflicts yet. There is some suggestion that Returnil conflicts with the rootkit finder Icesword. Was on a Vista machine; doesn't happen on mine. -
Thanks a million, JD, with your help I found it, it is downloading now at the furious rate of 100 kps. . . . . .I think it is coming from a Commodore 64 server. . .but it is free and I appreciate it.

You're right, there is no excuse for it. Not possible for someone to snag your wireless stuff out of the air, I hope.

Not to mention shrapnel. . . edit: From near the bottom of that article: "The most difficult part of the whole project was installing Windows on Sigbritt's PC," said Jonsson. Ya gotta love it.

Hi. Thanks for the link.

Hi Tom AZ. You can download that file and put it onto a cd, for later. Go here: http://www.softwarepatch.com/security/winxpsp2-security.html

Really nice. Very helpful, very generous of you to share all that know-how with everyone. I actually have a folder in MyDocuments called "RridgelyLikes". Your recommendation is as good as gold for me.

MajorGeeks has it. http://www.majorgeeks.com/PhotoPlus_d4789.html Thanks for the info.

Will keep trying, thanks. Have a video editing program for which I paid, but also have nieces, nephews who would like the free program.

Hi tom. This is the site for the traditional WXP update method, where you just leave it all up to Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx This site allows you to download SP2 into a folder and save it onto a cd, or just order the CD: http://www.softwarepatch.com/security/winxpsp2-security.html I used the second method because the download is big, 270 + mb, and SP2 is the first thing you'll want to install if you ever have to do a reinstall. So I have it on CD. There may be a way to download it directly from Microsoft, but I don't know how.

Cannot download it, may be doing something wrong but it just loops back to the same page. No dnld link works. Tried several. Thanks for the tip, though, I'll keep checking.

History dot dat and Temporary dot dat files can't be deleted
login123 replied to a topic in CCleaner Bug Reporting
Hi, 33conner, welcome. I started to reply when you first posted this, but thought I'd wait: am not sure what the issue is, because of the file path you described to your temporary internet files (tifs). I have not seen tifs created in the c:\Documents and Settings\(user name)\Local Settings\Temp folder. This may occur if you are logged on in to some account other than "owner", but I don't know for sure. Are you sure that is where they are located? Might be a good idea to post your question in the "spyware hell: Hijackthis log analysis" section of this forum, along with a hijackthis log. hijackthis can be downloaded from: http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/programs.php edit: TwistedMetal advises that HJT ver 2.02 is now available at: http://www.majorgeeks.com/Trend_Micro_HijackThis_d5554.html Hope you get it sorted out. -
Thank you. Got it. Also keeping the old versions.

Nope. Just waxing gregarious.

very nice, thanks. The upside down words are not a problem, as I have mounted my monitor on a swivel since seeing that upside down writing site.

Might be penurious, might just be impecunious. ??
