  1. Thank you, Ishan. Got it.
  2. Welcome. May you never degenerate into an installaholic.
  3. Thank you, Hazelnut. Got it. Andavari, if you uninstall an uninstaller with an uninstaller, would that reinstall it?
  4. OK, can't resist...is the last one, the white one, there near the center, sort of in between two of those bouncing bozos? Thought I saw it but couldn't get the mouse click timed right.
  5. Hi, wazzap. Welcome. Cannot answer your question about the varying time requirements, but you can use a file recovery program, like Recuva, to see if any deleted files are still on the hard drive.

Thanks, Humpty. Ran it, took about 3, 4 minutes. Clean. Part of the report said no security products recognized. Do you know what that means? edit: ran Kaspersky online scan later, just to check, but took longer. Clean also.
  7. thank you, Sputnik. Got it. edit: OK, just installed it along with Returnil 1.7.0.7502. Both running now, very compatible.
  8. Thanks for the link, Dennis and the info, Humpty. Great application. edit: OK, just installed it along with Sandboxie3.2. Both running now, very compatible.
  9. Thanks, Ishan. Got it. Must second what JDPower said. Not sure why, but it is "bad form" to link directly.
  10. Gurtz, you are very gracious. I started to reply 2 or 3 times, didn't. Now I will. I represent no one but myself. CCleaner does work; one of its ancillary functions has a bug. It will get fixed. There are few software applications which are bugless, fewer still which are free and bugless. Windows is the MOAB (Mother of all Buggy) , and we pay for it then tune it up for Microsoft as we go. WXP isn't finished even yet. CCleaner is free, period. So are Recuva and Defraggler. Sometimes nice people like Snowdrift contribute. I doubt if there are enough mouseclicks in the world to pay for the server time, developer costs, hardware, etc, to maintain this forum and those apps. This forum has 2 outstanding characteristics, I think. Most important is the courtesy with which the members and moderators behave, even when a member says something wrong, as I have often done. The other is the enourmous knowledge shared by the members. I have gigabytes of safe freeware, recommended by members. They correct each other but don't fight (much ). So please be as polite as you can. If you don't like the derned software, don't use it. But be polite.
  11. Hi, Wahoo, welcome to the forum. Does the program have an uninstaller exe file in the program folder and have you tried it? What program is it, if you can say?
  12. in Win XP, open windows explorer, then tools, then folder options, then view, then uncheck "show pop-up description for folder and desktop items", then apply, then OK. Those are sure annoying. Thats the only way I know to stop them. edit: well, OK, guess I addressed the wrong popups. Going back to the closet now. . . edit#2: well, maybe not? Going back to the closet anyway. . .
  13. Yes, true. Will probably just grind thru it manually.
  14. Downloaded Threatfire yesterday. Just wondered how is it's track record? Thanks.
  15. Also a fan, might even qualify as an "Installaholic". This not a list of recommendations, just apps that worked for me. Don't know how many qualify as stand alone. Other members might know of better apps for the same purposes. Recuva CCleaner Restoration Avira Unerase CPUZ SIW core Temp HDTune HDView Process Explorer (and just about anything from sysinternals) autoruns TCPView Loadorder Sdelete Movefile pendmoves filalyzer regalyzer Clamwin scanner IceSword RootKit Revealer Sophos Rootkit finder Detect Keylogger
  16. Thanks, Humpty. That's the last straw. Will remove realplayer as soon as Pshadow is off...have always kept it but it is a pain and occupies almost 38 meg on the HD.
  17. Hi, 1984. Thanks for the reminder about Paragon, Dennis. I am running a backup of C: drive right now using ver 8.0. Running it under powershadow, just to test the process. Please don't misunderstand, I am not a sales rep for Paragon, but I am trying it out and thought I'd share what I find. I think that when you get the computer up and running the way you like it, this is a good way to "capture" it in that state. But I have never done it this way; maybe someone who has done so will ring in soon. FYI, it will take about 3 hours to put the image onto a usb2 external drive. The image will start out 142 gig, and the archive will be about 49.5 gig. Am not entirely sure I will restore the image onto c: drive, pretty timid about doing that unless I just have to. Included are some screen shots of the process. The choices are fairly intuitive. clicked on "create an image of entire disk" unchecked D: drive, it is the recovery partition Chose where to put the archive apparently Paragon will split the archive if you choose to use CD or DVD Paragon gives you a running progress report. . . and statistics.
  18. Makes me feel better to use this formula: http://www.onlineconversion.com/dogyears.htm
  19. Good grief! If WXP broke (imagine that) and you fixed it, then you have to refix the fix for the original fix you did. (Did I get that right?)
