  1. DennisD: This striking photo is from a friend of mine, hope you enjoy it. Taken from over 100 yards away. This is the small (56 Kb version). The large version is 1.3 meg. In it you can even see the feathers. He wanted me to say that anyone could freely use the photo in any way which promotes the preservation of wildlife and wildlife habitat.
  2. Happy Easter everyone, and may God bless.
  3. That is a great link Hazelnut posted. Sometimes the thermal interface material causes the processor body to stick pretty tightly to the cooling apparatus. Surface tension effect, I think. I got mine (an AMD, not a P4) loose by wiggling it gently (gently) side to side until it came unstuck. Make sure you have a supply of approved thermal interface material to replace the old stuff with. Don't want to leave any gaps when you put it back. edit: if the problem is about the cpu unplugging from the motherboard, then I don't know. . .mine unplugged pretty easily. Good luck.
  4. Downloaded it. . .thanks for the link.
  5. Hope it's compatible with Clamwin portable and CCleaner portable.
  6. Yep. Won't go to vista till I absolutely have to. Spending time now, figuring how to just keep XP running at this level of efficiency when MS abandons it. If I can do that efficiently, Vista will not happen.
  7. By golly, Humpty, you're braver than I. I wouldn't go near such a site, nor the one in the other post which has trojan horses for sale. Gives me a vision of springs and wheels flying out of my computer, smoke, identity theft, >whew<.
  8. I have an Olympus digital photo camera. When I plug in the usb cable and turn on the camera, windows explorer finds it as a drive with a letter, with a folder in it called DCIM. In that folder are the pictures, movies, etc. Never tried recuva on the camera, but it did show up as a drive, in windows explorer. Hope this helps.

    USB Drive

The experts will probably get back with you pretty quick. When they do I bet they'll want to know what antivirus you are using, what kind of USB drive, which OS, other details.
  10. edit 04 apr 07: it's free 'till 01 Oct, if you didn't know go to https://europe.f-secure.com/exclude/blacklight/index.shtml Happy hunting
  11. Looks same to me too, here is screen shot from IE7 if I can figure out how to include it. Yep, that worked, thanks again Hazelnut/

    shred file name

Hi jan01, welcome. I have used sdelete, it's fairly fast. It renames individual files when it deletes them to strings of Z's.
  13. I tried SIW and HDTune, both really good. Both mentioned elsewhere in this forum. Have downloaded Hard Drive Inspector also. Thanks for the tip.

    Linux

    True, and picturesquely said.
  16. No Hazelnut, I don't think so either. I think Bill Gates hears a different voice, telling him that the money is going to come from corporations, and individual users will, as they have always done, adapt. Heck, he may be right. But, the horrific experiences arising from weaknesses in windows in the past decade may change that. Not for individuals, they will buy vista because it is cool, but for corporations, they won't buy it because of windows track record. At least until the individual users fine tune it. That scraping sound you hear is me putting my soapbox back under the desk. edit: Maybe he will offer a free downgrade to windows XP.
  17. 20+ meters, 65+ feet. . . . I might become one of HIS favorite dishes.
  18. A source of great comfort to a registry scaredy-cat like me. A question on the topic: what does ZSoft uninstaller do? Make a note, so to speak, of the registry changes an installation has made?
  19. thanks for the suggestions, Lusher and XanaTos112. Have roorkit unhooker downloaded, not yet installed. I also saw some really good reviews of it. Will be quite a while before I get to use it. Thanks again.
