  1. Hi xxxxsh4d0wxxxx. Forgive me if I am telling you something you already know, but: You want to know the temperature of your hard drive and processor as well as the case temp. SIW (System Information for Windows) a great application. It requires no installation, will run from a folder or flash drive. Runs fairly fast. Will tell you the temp of your hard drive and processor if they are equipped to report that information. It is available at http://www.gtopala.com/ My hard drive is at 43 deg C., 109 deg. F. My Processor is at 48 deg C., 118 deg F and 55 Deg C., 131 deg F. I checked on the manufacturers site for the processor, seems too hot, but if I read the specs right it is OK. You can probably find the specs for your system and check it out. Some of the others on this forum are pretty experienced in building systems, maybe they will ring in.
  2. Pretty nifty, Humpty. My first effort-->  Not up to this guy yet, tho -->
  3. Still use spybot. Tea timer has protected my registry several times. There was a bug in the script for the tea timer popup window, but that should be fixed now. A new release was going to incorporate the fix. If not, a fix for it is described here: (its easy, I did it ) http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=122
  4. Thank goodness. These folks made my car.
  5. Great pictures on that site. The cheetas even look fast when standing still.
  6. Win XP Pro AutoSketch Window Washer Hey, I didn't know any better. Winzip MS Office 97 MS Office 2003, uninstalled in favor of Office 97. By the way have gotten pretty good results in the last 6 months from HP email support for Compaq. They got a new CEO, are trying to turn around. Hope they make it.

    Erunt/Ngtropt

CeeCee, thanks for the info. Got it. Gonna try it.
  8. I think so. Probably not much, like Rridgely says. Mostly a result of incomplete uninstalling, I think. There used to be talk about "Windows Rot", statistically unavoidable error accumulation on the HD. Much of that talk was questionable. I use mainly 2 systems, one very slow, one very fast. Fast is better. Both seem to slow down over time. Am resigned to reinstalling WXP from time to time to speed it up.
  9. Welllll, I googled a bit. One of the unsuspecting victims had Anonymizer 2*** Version * installed. Old quote, still true?? http://www.reason.com/news/show/29148.html "Get Over it??
  10. Hi, Claire22, welcome. If you paid for CCleaner by credit card, the card company may be able to help you. Sometimes they will refuse to pay a bill if there is a "legitimate" customer complaint. Good luck. Often there is a time limit for filing complaints.
  11. GOOD question. EXPecially now that XP is a goner. I have looked around a bit, cannot find any answers that seem trustworthy, cannot afford to experiment. Still looking.
  12. "Shout" by the Isley Brothers. Written in '59, even kids today cannot sit still when it plays. "Golden Oldie". . .
  13. Will check mine. . . temporary picture: Seems OK, don't know how to do much else anyway. . . Full edit: Just checking. Also, it still looks the saame from here. Hope its not an old bad bug.

    USB Drive

Yes, used older ver. 0.88.7, right now running latest as we speak. Has good features: manual update button, memory scan button, selectable file scan button, preferences button. Not fast. Do not know about the detection efficiency. It says Detect Keylogger.exe is a trojan, but i don't think it is. . . . . . if it is, somebody tell me.
  15. I think it is a great explanation. . .I actually understand it. Very Pleasant.
  16. I tried the PandaScanna with a reboot, runs pretty quick, little over a minute. Nothing found. Looks good. Thanks for the link. Question. . .is there a "test rootkit", like the EICAR test virus, available?
  17. Good news. Glad to hear that antivir is keeping up. I'm just too lazy to jump onto another learning curve, will hold out till XP is so out of date that it no longer even pretends to work.
  18. Walter S. Mossberg, Wall Street Journal, votes no. . .mostly. . .on Vista. http://online.wsj.com/article_email/SB1175...NjcwMzYwWj.html
  19. Piebald, huh? Knew of the breed, didn't know of the connection. Learned something today.
  20. For some reason I have to not click on the "advanced" button when I am using "Classic Start Menu". But when using "Start Menu" I do have to click on the advanced tab. Maybe a different set of steps is required depending on which start menu you use. ??? Hope so, hope it is not a bad bug.
  21. hi, Funky. Welcome. Only know about my system, but. . . . Using windows xp classic view, what I have to do to enable run is: right click start. left click properties. left click customize. find the "display Run" box and check it. left click the OK button, takes a minute, customize window will close. close the properties window. left click start. see if run is offered. Hope it works.
