  1. You wouldn't leave me on my own would you? It actually sounds like a mishmash of everything that's gone before.
  2. Hi dan. Just to add to dvdbane's request, do you have or have you had DivX on your computer, as it appears to be related to the DivX Web Player ... http://www.systemlookup.com/Startup/24417-divxhtml5_dll.html Was there any other text after the "B Register C:", which may be hidden due to a narrow column in the gui? I have DivX but I run with an old (more reliable for me) version of the Web Player which for whatever reason hasn't generated a similar entry in my startup. I appreciate that "B Register C:" on it's own could refer to anything but a lot of research has come up with absolutely nothing but the DivX reference.
  3. If you do try AviDemux it may play the MP4 file you load into it rather badly (sound wise) but ignore that as the saved off copy of any file you edit should play fine with good audio and in sync with the video. This issue may only be with my XP system but I thought it worth a mention. Anyways, don't struggle to work out how to do what as I can make it really easy for you. Or maybe you like a challenge.
  4. I will say first that it's maybe a good thing that you were trying to do a "Quick Format" on the card and not a full one, so with any luck the failed format didn't touch the data on the card. After the failed format, does Windows give the card a drive letter when you plug it in? (Doubtful but I dunno) How does "Disk management" display the card, and do you know how to access Disk Management to check that out? A screenshot of the cards display in Disk Management would be useful. How big is the card by the way?
  5. nikki, if you haven't sorted this yet, I can show you how to edit MP4 files with AviDemux, which includes being able to cut parts out, change the volume etc.. It's really very easy and quick as no transcoding is needed. Just a couple of settings and then save off the new copy as MP4.

    Hey Hazelnut

Try not to blame yourself for that.

Hi nortonis, and welcome to Piriform. Have you tried having a look at that drive with "Partitioning" software. I'm thinking that "Minitools Partition Wizard", which can handle all partitioning tasks with SSD's, may be able scan that drive and display it's properties, i.e. scan the entire drive and display the "RAW data" section. If it can do that, it may be able to search for a lost partition within that raw data section. http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html (Home Version) Partition Recovery: Free Partition Recovery from Unallocated Space: An outside shot, but with nothing better to offer, worth a try at least.
  8. This is a real long shot but I'll mention it just in case by a fluke it works. I was wondering if this could be fixed by using the same trick which sometimes fixes the "No disk in drive D: (or drive whatever)" issue. Placing a blank disk in the offending drive and then running Recuva sometimes works, with the bonus that the issue never reappears. If you have no floppy drive just put blank disks into whichever drives you have and give it a go. As I say, this may be way off being a solution, but the similarity between the two problems makes it worth a try at least.
  9. Of course you do, but where did he get your photograph?
  10. I forgot to mention that on my XP system I can clearly see both the single file or the folder created by WFS without showing hidden files or un-hiding protected system files. And I'll ask again, has anyone actually tried this to see what happens for themselves? My findings can't be specific to my computer.
  11. The old analogue TV picture was actually better in my opinion than a Standard Definition picture displayed on a modern Hi Def TV. Speaking for the UK by the way where I think our Std-Def TV quality can be pretty poor. However Hi-Def (1081i or p) is something else, and I'm still as knocked out by it now as I was when I first got the set.
  12. That futuristic scene in post #1 looks like a planet being Terra-formed, but it's actually been Piriformed. An easy on the eye restful one for a change ...
  13. This isn't my experience at all, and I'd be surprised if my experience is OS specific to my XP. I've posted quite a few times that with Windows (as opposed to MAC), CCleaner always deletes the temp files if the process of WFS is stopped for any reason, and every time I've posted that information I've actually tried it first to make sure my statements are accurate and current. I've just tried it again using the various permutations and CCleaner still deletes the temp file or files the moment WFS is stopped. 1: Using the WFS option in "Options\Settings" with "Wipe MFT Free Space" unchecked, a single file is created, and then deleted if the process is stopped. 2: Using the WFS option in "Options\Settings" with "Wipe MFT Free Space" checked, a folder is created containing multiple sub folders and files, which again is deleted if the process is stopped. 3: Using WFS via the "Drive Wiper" option in the "Tools" menu, a folder is created containing multiple sub folders and files (the same as option 2:), as "Wipe MFT Free Space" is part of the single WFS option and can't be excluded. Again the created folder with subfolders and files is deleted immediately. Have you guys actually tried this for yourselves? As I mention at the outset, it would be surprising if this only happens with my XP machine.
  14. August already. Where's the year gone? Usual rules chaps. Small thumbnails and no Imageshack.
  15. Thanks Derek, definitely worth a look.
  16. Hi mbrcomp, and welcome to Piriform. As you say this would have to be optional and user choice only, and if I'm reading your suggestion correctly CCleaner can already do what you require. "Tools\System Restore" ... http://www.piriform.com/docs/ccleaner/using-ccleaner/removing-system-restore-points
  17. Try one of these ... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Integral-Secure-Digital-Single-Reader/dp/B0047T6XWY One of the best things I've bought and cheap as chips. Instead of the painfully slow card reader transfer speeds, you get USB speed, and of course the card is recognized by the computer and given a drive letter. Also on ebay ... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/161319330905?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=108&device=c&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=108 We only have SD cards in my house, but you can get "multi-readers" if you need one and want to google for it.
  18. You're English is fine Klaus, and welcome to the forum. Two things. Firstly, you say you have a new 1TB USB hard drive to copy the mirror image to. Being new, have you actually used that drive at all? Has it been properly formatted for use? Some new drives are already formatted when you buy them, but some are not. Secondly, because you have purchased Recuva, that entitles you to priority support from the developers of Recuva. You can contact them here ... http://www.piriform.com/support Select "Recuva Professional" from the drop down menu bottom right of the page.
  19. Hi Joe, and welcome to the forum. If you have any doubts as to whether you may still have something unwanted on your computer, the best advice is to visit one of the "Malware Removal" forums listed in post #10 of the forum rules. All of these sites have properly trained malware removal staff, are extremely helpful and patient, and it's all for free of course ... http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showannouncement=15&f=13 You could also bookmark this site and call in now and again. You can probably learn a bit of stuff and we're always happy to help out with anything other than malware removal. Untrained folk can usually do more damage than good in that particular field. Hope that helps.
  20. No offence Derek but you really need some page breaks in a longish post. That is so difficult to read. One of my scariest moments was my first log-in after agreeing to be a moderator.
  21. And the Walkman is still one of the best sounding and reliable media players out there. Mine ... Which I've had for 6 years or more, used constantly, and I can still get 25hrs + out of the original battery. I've also got a Sony MiniDisk Walkman which is gathering dust. Imagine only being able to play one album at a time, and with cassettes, not being able to easily skip from track to track. We're spoilt these days.
  22. Usual rules chaps ... thumbnails only and no ImageShack. An old one from me to start ...
  23. Sorry about the lack of input Ron, but without official documentation, or an Android phone I have no idea what CCleaner will or won't do, and I'm in possession of neither. And I'm sure I'm not the only one. However, a quick search of the Piriform site reveals this ... http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner-android As you can see from the graphic, there is an "Analyse" function and check boxes.

    Help with Speccy

There's a shed load of information here on what "SMART" info is ... http://www.hdsentinel.com/smart/index.php Heavy reading methinks as I've had that link for a long time and have never gotten through it.
  25. Hi dave, and welcome to Piriform. Apologies for the delay in replying as I've been away from the forum for a few days, but if you are still in the same position post back and we'll do what we can. It could be that your drive has physical damage or hard errors the way Minitools has displayed it, but as this is the first time I've seen it display a drive in that way, I can't say that with any certainty, but I'll research that. There's obviously a complete lack of menu items down the left side with the partition itself highlighted, so could you click outside of the highlighted (yellow) partition, and highlight the device itself, which should bring up a different list of menu items down that left side. As shown here ... Let me know if you get the normal selection shown.
